This weekend i will be busy planning/running my daughter's B-day party so don't expect too much , but i'll try to read more carefully and give some feedback. I must admit i just gave the rules a cursory look so far.

Btw, we went to watch "Inside out"
I was impressed. Very sophisticated.
Funny and sad.
The entire family enjoyed it, including 15 yo boy
Highly recommend

On the other hand, it was introduced by the worst pixar short ever ("lava").
Shockingly bad.
A poor idea horribly executed.

I'm taking the kids to see it tomorrow, so I'm glad to hear that you're recommending it!

In in the rare event more are to drop out. Sounds like a fun idea.
@Don't panic, I just had to look that up after you said it. The 1 minute preview of the clip looked... not as good as I'd hoped. It seems that Pixar shorts have been going a little bit downhill in recent years, but that could just be my bias for the amazing original shorts. Geri's Game is still hilarious...

The result in the former is revealed publicly (i.e. in the thread), and in the latter is PMed to the player privately.

Maybe my eyes tricked me, but I swear those seemed worded almost the same before.

Regardless whether this exact setup works out as balanced as intended or not, big props for finding a cool system were nobody dies plus I love the dynamic distribution setup in general!

Guys, I'm afraid that I'll have to bail out for now - there is too much happening in the coming week and I doubt that I will be able to commit to this game to the degree that I would prefer to be able to. My apologies.

I'll try to make the next WW game; and the best of luck with this.

I had some free time today, so I decided to re-write the rules in the OP. They should be much clearer now.

Also: we still need one more player!

- So, to clarify: during plot distribution phase, the teamleader openly distributes those? That's how I read it now.

- I guess there is no limit on how many plots one single player can receive.

- just a thought: a role that'd re-shuffle the initial leadership-list could be interesting later in game. At least re-shuffling those that haven't been assigned already.

Awesome, the game is back on for tomorrow AM!

Yep. That wasn't clear in my previous write-up (hence the re-write :))

Right, but a player can only receive one plot per turn, so if, theoretically, the leaders pick that player every time and gives him/her a plot every time, the player will have a maximum possibility of having five cards.

A lot of creativity can go into the plots, so if this game goes well, maybe we can develop this one like we developed the [WW] games.

Good choice in games, Ravenvii. This is fun in person--although my family is too prone to laughing when they lie to someone!
@WoodNUFC if this is a known party game can you tell us what it is called? @ravenvii same question and did you tweak the rules from how this is generally played?

I think I'm understanding it, but you may have to walk us through the first round or two until we fully get it.

Oddly enough, I actually think I understand this, unlike some WW games.

Oh good, then you can explain this to me:D
Team leader selects team members, then members vote on whether or not to take the mission. If it is voted down too many times, infiltrators get a point. If they choose to go on a mission, plot points (roles) are given out, which players can keep or use as long as the game is in whatever stage their role allows. Players vote on whether or not a mission is successful or not, with the number of infiltrator votes needed to make the mission unsuccessful determined on whatever turn the game is at. After the mission is voted on, we go to the next turn, etc.

So what I *think* the goal is is to determine who the infiltrators are based on who is in what team and mission outcomes. Thus the goal is to build a "perfect" team with no infiltrators that will make the mission a success every time. But the infiltrators can also lead a mission which can guarantee a failure so that adds some fun to it.

Phew! Ok...I see how this (kinda?) works now. Thanks!

are u sure agent astroboy? i say nay to that. :D

don't trust him techG, his case is misleading!

Koodauw as the contemporary team leader will name 4 (??! - ravenvii, you seemed to have deleted that info) players to form a team of five (Koodauw + 4). Everybody, also including those not assigned, except Koodauw will then vote on either the mission being launched or not. If proceeding, each one of the five will PM ravenvii a fail or success text. Good-guys want to succeed, baddies want to fail.

Think of it as a slightly complicated Oracle (since in theory baddies could vote success too and vice versa) "is there at least one infiltrator among these 5 players?" > mission fails > "yes". And so on.

In the present day, there exists a quasi-governmental organization known simply as The Agency. Though formed by the United States government, its services are available any who could afford to pay for it. Entities that have used The Agency’s services included other governments, organizations and even private interests.

So secret that not even the NSA knows of its existence — and the only President that knew of its existence was President Wilson Woodrow who spearheaded its formation — The Agency watches the world, and manipulates it to the wishes of the highest bidder. Not even the bidders know of its existence, only of its cells, all of which are ever-amorphous as to never remain in the same place or even consist of the same agents. Among The Agency’s many specialities, its most popular services are espionage and assassinations.

For a hundred years, The Agency reigned unopposed. Until a few learned of its existence. The few that wasn’t supposed to. The few who want to bring down The Agency and its clandestine tyranny-for-hire. The Agency do not know of the Infiltrators, but they soon will…

“The mission, should you accept it, is to obtain a safe box from the Türkiye İş Bankası of Istanbul. The safe box belongs to a Mr. Badem. The safe box is within the bank’s modest safe, hidden in plain sight. Our client has not provided the safe number, but our agents has supplied us with the number 663. We cannot confirm this number, however, so you must verify that the box does indeed belong to Mr. Badem, and if not, find the box that does, and take it.

The box shall be deposited in the designated location. Its contents shall, in no way or manner, be inspected by you or any of your team. We will know of any tampering that occurs, and the consequences will be swift and severe.

Best of luck, Koodauw, and may the luck be ever persistent.”

The current leader (@Koodauw) will choose five team members who will go on the mission. And all players (except for @Koodauw) will vote “yea” or “nay” on whether to go ahead with the mission. The vote will be by majority. All players are expected to participate in the voting — no “no-votes” please. Anyone who misses two votes in a row will get “lost in the forest”.

All of the above is done publicly in-thread.

Since no one have anything to go on quite yet, this should be an easy vote, so no excuses! :)

Voting will end at majority vote or 9 PM EST tonight, whichever comes first.

It's called The Resistance (Wikipedia link). It occurred to me that this could be a great forum game when I heard of it. As I've never actually played the game myself, the rules are only *based* on the card game, not following it exactly.

Hmm.... I suspect everyone! The first round really is gonna be a "shot in the dark".

A few early questions:

1. I assume the content of the missions is purely "entertainment". The only real factor in how you vote is whether or not you think one or more of the people who are selected by the team leader are infiltrators. Is that correct?

2. Are the "plots" use it or lose it each round or can they be saved for use in a future round?

2. Are the "plots" use it or lose it each round or can they be saved for use in a future round?

He already stated that one player can receive more than one plot (max five seven then > one per round max).*
Although I think it would be worth pointing out/clarify that 90% of them are one-timers. Only the forced public vote is permanent. So you only spy on someone once (Seer plot) and that's it. But clarification would be nice.

*sorry, you had a different point though. I assumed one could keep them (as there are some you can't or not solely use while on a mission) but he didn't outright say that.

ok, i had time to read the rules, i do have a few questions/clarifications

1. is the order of team leaders the one on the OP, or is it secret and we find out as we play?
2. how many players are in each team? is it always the same?
3. when do we know our roles and if we are asked into a team? does the team leader ask in the thread or they PM the GG and the GG PMs to the players? is it sequential (ask-wait for answer-ask next)?
4. are we expected to discuss who the leader should pick?
5. do ALL 3 plot card HAVE to be distributed by the team leader?
6. do plot cards HAVE to be used by player who receives them? can they be saved for another turn?
7. can the team leader keep a card for themselves?
8. are the plot card selected in each round known publicly?
9. are the players who receives the cards known publicly? if so, do we know which card specifically they get?
10. are there deadlines for voting?
card specific:

spy: is this revealed only to team leader or public? does the person spied on know? does everyone know?
establish confidence: is this done automatically by the GG when plots are given out?
strong leader: when does this get decided/known?
identification validation: is this optional?
