I just can't decide which one:

The fact that Apple gave so much thought to the notch/pill and turned it into a feature means that they realize that cutouts are here to stay till at least 2025. Neither the technology nor the economics for see-through has matured to a point where it would make sense to put it on the iPhone.

Apple is probably waiting till after they introduce Apple Glasses to start pushing aggressively for see-through displays as it has many more practical use cases for AR.

I would have rather had seem them shrink the notch further. Clearly the "dynamic Island" gimmick has hoodwinked a lot of consumers, but I'm not sold. It seems more intrusive than before, especially when watching videos in full screen.

I hate USB-C. Such an unreliable physical connection.
It is less reliable than Lightning, although the main issue is Apple not making any upgrade to Lightning in years. It's still 480 MB/s for data transfers, and with today's standards, that's glacially slow. I don't understand why they can come up with Lightning 2, or the same way USB-C has been upgraded to Thunderbolt 4, and soon 5, still using the same connection. Until they do that, if they do it, USB-C is the next best thing.
I almost never use Lightning to charge my phone. My magsafe pucks work way better, and I don't have to care much about wear, since there is none. But when I need to transfer in and out big files, I do appreciate the fast speed of my iPad's USB-C and TB ports, still using the same USB-C connector.

Have you used it yet?

Many people are delirious bordering on orgasmic about the dynamic island. But once Apple has screens without holes and notches we will all look back on this time now of iPhone screens as primitive and undesirable.

Whether it covers a hole or notch or not, having a streamlined and "dynamic" notification area at the top of the screen doesn't bother me a bit. It's way better than the comparatively huge dropdown banners that now interrupt your screen experience when a call, text, or other notification comes along.

I ordered the iPhone 14 pro, don't get me wrong. But having a hole is still annoying and I don't think it's cool. If BMW makes their new ugly grill a little smaller, those cars are still ugly.

I got one on the way as well. The notch never bothered me much. I'm looking forward to something different. Hopefully it's truly useful screen real estate. The 14Pro will be taller than my current 11Pro, so I'm thinking the island will hardly change my overall viewing experience.

Everyone said that about the notch. Everyone got over it.
That’s true i don’t mind it. I still think this version of the notch looks worse. I noticed how little marketing showed off video playback during the presentation. Anyway it’s funny to me how many people can’t wait for the technology to get rid of the notch but then go on to defend it as a defining feature.

The notch was a defining design element —love it or hate it. The iPhone has to have a recognizable feature so that people know it’s an iPhone. Not a generic slab of screen.
No, it was introduced at a time where both iOS and Android phones were trying to ditch the bezels, the iPhone was not the first to do it either. Android manufacturers moved on and tries other things (drop-shaped or punch holes, even that ridiculous motorized pop-up selfie camera).

Despite making it slightly more narrow, the notch is ridiculously dated and should have been replaced with something else for a while now, but there wasn't anything better available in the iOS world - so bad they indirectly made the statement for the notch stronger by having a really dated design (the iPhone SE) remind you how bad bezels are and that the notch is a technical marvel when compared to them.

During the Dynamic Island intro, Joswiak does say that they've put the proximity sensor behind the display for the first time. So they're making inroads there. I'm sure the physical 'island' will shrink over the next few generations as they're able to put more and more behind the screen. However, i think the 'digital' island is a differentiator and is here to stay for a while!

I rarely use the front facing camera, I do wish there was an option to not have it, and perhaps a lock TouchID button . But that would add another SKU and more parts to the production list.
