Do you care that the iPhone 7 came without a headphone jack?

  • Yes, I still wish the iPhone 7 would have come with a headphone jack.

  • No, I never did and/or bluetooth/lightning-adapter are fine for my usage.

Side note related to 3.5 Jack/AirPods:

I envision the AirPods 2 will be something really special for 2019, by far they are Apples best accessory to the iPhone when they launched at the end of 2016. My ‘Launch Day’ AirPods are still perfect, battery life is strong and I’m still impressed with the adequate Bass/treble they produce.

To me they still look like pencils sticking out of your ears. At the gym I see many people with headphones on but most of the time I have to look for them. With AirPods there is no missing them. Apple should at least offer them in black. Less conspicuous.

The article has no mention about sensors at all. What point were you trying to make?

There’s no mention of new sensors but it points out the reasons why Apple may have chosen to remove the headphone jack.

The article has is rather speculative and contains some general bla about audio. It does in no way sound like anything but an opinion piece to me, plus a thrown in quote from Schiller about courage.

Plus some sentences about audio via lightning which can be superior.

Apple didn’t add anything, they simply removed options.

Isn’t quality opinion in general anyway?! I understand what you mean. I’m just trying to point out that there could be reasons you’re either not aware of or are not thinking about.

For those that don’t know why the headphone jack was removed. I honestly don’t miss it and don’t even use BT headphones. I bought adapters where I can charge and listen to music at the same time on Amazon and have had 0 issues with them. I didn’t even pay full price for them. I use Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay in my truck, so I don’t have a need for them when driving. And once again if I ride with someone with AUX cord, I just use one of my spare adapters.

Basically seems like they mostly decided to take a quicker way out of some design decisions by removing something and suddenly being able to move things around a little differently. Seems like it wasn't really to make progress in technology or even "courage", just the design decision they jumped to so that they wouldn't need to spend more time and money on figuring out how to do what they wanted without removing something.

My bad, for some reason I thought this was about the Lightning splitter connector that would allow you to charge and use headphones at the same time. Yes, for the 3.5 mm to Lightning adapter there's the one that Apple makes and had it from the beginning essentially.

What about this one? I ordered this one for a spare in my fiancé’s truck.

There are a variety of third party ones out these days, but as I recall pretty much none of them are actually certified (aside from perhaps a pricier one that Belkin has).

I haven’t had any issues with the non certified ones. I do plan on buying the belkin one sometime next year before I upgrade my X.
