You got a bigger battery.
You can't have a bigger battery and a headphone jack? How do others do it?
You got a bigger battery.
I have to say I still see a vaster proportion of people with wired headphones than those with Bluetooth on my travels but at least Apple give you a crappy dongle as a converter so I’m grateful for that.Designing any product (bike, phone, computer) you have to make a lot of assumptions based on the average user. There will always be some that fall outside of that perimeter due to their usage.
Lets put it another way. If you put a survey out that said what is your preference:
Longer battery life or headphone jack, I'm sure most would go for the battery.
No point having wired headphones when you are out of juice!

No complains here: the dongle is small and makes wire (a bit) larger, which is always nice
They won’t be for long. After Samsung removes the headphone jack in the S10/Note10 all other holdouts will follow and remove it too. Then if you still want a phone with a jack you’ll have to use old devices. At least Apple will still support their old stuff with updates for much longer than android.. Hell the 5s still gets the latest iOS updates...You can't have a bigger battery and a headphone jack? How do others do it?
You can but at the expense of something else. Either a bigger device or minus some components. Laws of physics. You can't have a bigger battery and a headphone jack? How do others do it?
They don't include the dongle, you have to go purchase it. If they included it, I probably wouldn't even mention it.
It's $15. That's roughly 10 minutes of my salary... it's not about the money, it's that they just take it away and don't include it. LOL
That’s pretty crap to be fair. A component that costs them less than a £1 to manufacture and provides users a fundamental option should still be available in what is a very expensive purchase as far as I am concerned. My 8+ came with one though.
Whose kidding themselves. I never expected Apple (or any other company) to not try and make as much money as possible.Yeah, I didn't grab one from the Apple store when I got the phone because it didn't occur to me that they would cheap out and not include it in the box, as they have in the past, as as Google did with the Pixel phones, etc...
I purchased a set from Amazon, not realizing they they were not Apple brand, they looked the same and cost the same... Neither of them worked because my XR said that they were "not apple certified" or something, and it disabled them and prevented me from using them, so I had to go and order a second set, this time making sure it was Apple branded...
So that does annoy me, buying things multiple times when I shouldn't have to buy it at all... It shows me that this was about the money as much as it was about making room for things.
Apple knows that more than 50% of the population still uses wired headphones... They wanted a new product to sell so they removed the jack to get you to move to AirPods, and for those that are stubborn and want to use the wired sets, they could make money off of us as well by selling us back the feature they took away, buy selling a $1 dongle for $15... and again when some of us lose them...
It's never about the consumer, it is all about the mighty dollar and stock price. Apple doesn't care about us any more than Google does. Let's not kid ourselves...
I never called it a dongleWhy does a dongle have to be "certified"... It's a connector... LOL
It's rather unfortunate that Apple hasn't even put out a connector that allows the use of wired headphones and a charger at the same time. Something that should have been there since the beginning when they made the change with iPhone 7 and basically didn't provide a way to use wired headphones and charge the phone at the same time, which has been a basic ability since the beginning.I never called it a dongle
Some crappy Chinese knock off didn’t work properly. A lightning cable has to be certified.
It’s the same thing.
Not Apples fault you chose poorly. I never buy non certified accessories. That’s on you.
Or the company you bought it from couldn’t wire the thing properly! Given my iPhone cost me £1200 I’d rather use genuine stuff with it.The fact that I have to purchase one to begin with, is the root cause. Yes, I bought the wrong one... didn't occur to me that there could BE a wrong headphone connector...
It should work fine, but Apple must not have gotten their cut of the money so they made sure I couldn't use it.
Wireless changing + wired headphones. Doesn’t that tick the box? It's rather unfortunate that Apple hasn't even put out a connector that allows the use of wired headphones and a charger at the same time. To start with, iPhone 7 doesn't support wireless charging (perhaps if Apple waited to make the change until they also introduced wireless charging it would make a little more sense in that respect).Or the company you bought it from couldn’t wire the thing properly! Okay. I probably forgot this thread was about the 7. But with the 7 you got a free headphone adapter. To start with, iPhone 7 doesn't support wireless charging (perhaps if Apple waited to make the change until they also introduced wireless charging it would make a little more sense in that respect).
Furthermore, keeping the phone in one place while using it, let's say to watch something or to listen to something while doing something else isn't really the same as being able to use a small power bank (or even a longer cable) to charge it while listening and being able to move the phone around or have it in some position where a wireless charger wouldn't really fit and be able to charge it.
Yes, you got the adapter so that you could plug in regular headphones. Unfortunately that didn't help with being able to charge and use those headphones at the same time, which you could always easily do until then.Okay. I probably forgot this thread was about the 7. But I’ve had BT headphones since then so it was never a problem for me.
Exactly if people want to use there wired headphones they canAfter countless times ripping my EarPods out of my ears from catching the wires I view the headphone jack in my good riddance rear view mirror.

If only Apple offered a tiny adapter in the box and available in the store.![]()
Never used it. As I said. Went BT and never looked back.Yes, you got the adapter so that you could plug in regular headphones. Unfortunately that didn't help with being able to charge and use those headphones at the same time, which you could always easily do until then.
It's changed my charging habits (I've become a little more aware than I'd like) and it's a tad annoying having to purchase yet more cables (and such a waste) but it's not the end of the world, though I do wish I could charge and listen to music at the same time without buying those ridiculous looking AirPods or some other subpar, overpriced, unrefined Bluetooth earbuds.
That is certainly fine and good. That said, it's something that plenty of people used without a second thought to it given how basic something like that was/is, and something that was suddenly taken away without even a connector workaround for it from Apple.Never used it. Those didn't really come around until later on and basically just from third parties -- pretty much none of those are certified unfortunately (with plenty not working well either, having gone through a few of them). You should look online for the 2-way lightning splitter, I got one on Wish for a couple bucks and its AWESOME
Well 61% on this thread said they didn’t care, so at least I’m with the majority for a change! That is certainly fine and good.
