Do you care that the iPhone 7 came without a headphone jack?

  • Yes, I still wish the iPhone 7 would have come with a headphone jack.

  • No, I never did and/or bluetooth/lightning-adapter are fine for my usage.

Well 61% on this thread said they didn’t care, so at least I’m with the majority for a change!
Well, statistically speaking its hard to say how that extrapolates beyond the somewhat different/limited type of users that are here, compared to the general user population. Beyond that, majority or not, when millions of people are involved, even a relative minority can still be in the millions.

Also, don’t you hate when your 3mm jack breaks off into the port?
Can't say I've ever had that happen, or even known of someone personally who had that happen. That isn't to say that it hasn't happened to someone out there. That said, it's probably that much worse if something of that type happens to the single lighting port given that then aside from not being able to use a wired headset you'd also not even be able to connect to your device or charge it.

Or the company you bought it from couldn’t wire the thing properly! Given my iPhone cost me £1200 I’d rather use genuine stuff with it.

Wireless changing + wired headphones. Doesn’t that tick the box?

Just another thing to carry around with you... again, not cutting the cord, just moving it slightly... LOL

Let me ask you diehard Apple fans... do you ever find fault with anything that Apple does? Are you even capable of being objective and critical, or is it all about "supporting your team"?

Honest question.

Loads of things!
Dropping the matte screen option for MacBook Pro’s.
Dropping MagSafe
Dropping TimeCapsule
Launching a 2014 Mac mini less powerful than the 2012 one (forgave them though as I just bought out a maxed 2018 one).

That’s just off the top of my head. Despite the user name I’m not a AFB sheep! It’s just the headphone jack wasn’t something I was using as I have BT headphones, BT car etc.
So it doesn’t bother me when it went.
Same with the CD player. I hardly ever used it.
Others mileage may vary.

I still miss it personally but it's never been a deal breaker. I still have to fuss with adapters and as I'm on it all day long using the wireless headphones are not always an option with only 4 hours of talk time. The biggest drawback for me is the ability to charge and use headphones at the same time, I can get (yet another) adapter but it still feels like a step backwards. Just my .02

For one, you are on an Apple related website, naturally you find those who are very biased towards Apple, so you might want to add that into your equation.

However, ‘constructive criticism’ is a good thing, Apple is not perfect, and they have made some controversial moves in the last few years in terms of the iPhone, but none of which that would sway me away from the user experience with iOS and their stringent
security standards . Not to mention, Apples customer service is highly rated, and when you add those three ingredients, I am disinterested in the competition.

They can have strong security and great customer service, while giving us industry standard features... it doesn’t have to be one or the other...

I got my Apple approved dongle yesterday and it works just fine, I am on a conf call right now. Problem solved.

I made sure this one was the "Apple Approved" one from Apple, got a two-pack sent from Amazon, for when I lose one. $22 shipped from Amazon Prime
That's kind of what I'm curious about, which "Apple approved" one did you go with, especially for such a price? Last I heard only the Belkin one was basically "certified", and that was in the $40 range for just a single one.

Two years on and I still can’t find my dongles. I’ve bought several over the years and they still keep vanishing.

I have a pair of Bose wireless headphones but I also have four pairs of high-end corded headphones.

The high-end headphones are collecting dust not because they’re not any good or relevant anymore but because I keep losing my dongles. :)

In my opinion omitting the headphone jack is nothing more than forced obsolescence. Apple's strategy of leaving off ports and features and claiming they are steps forward is dubious. I think it is more cost related.

To me, it's really not about "moving forward". No longer offering the adapter with new phones saves costs while the price of the phone still goes up, more profit...

Wired headphones still outsell wireless ones. In my opinion wireless headphones cannot match the sound quality of wired headphones. At least not the ones I use.

The Bose are great, I also sync them with my watch and use them at the gym. Nice to leave the cord at home. But other than that, I do not see a reason to leave the headphone jack off the phone.

This is really weird, because when I click on my order in amazon, it says the page is no longer there... It said they were made by Apple.

You could try this one, if the description is accurate, it should work...

[doublepost=1543503604][/doublepost]This is what I bought, but I can't get to the listing any more, it is gone since yesterday... weird...

My bad, for some reason I thought this was about the Lightning splitter connector that would allow you to charge and use headphones at the same time. Yes, for the 3.5 mm to Lightning adapter there's the one that Apple makes and had it from the beginning essentially.

I suppose it is a nice option for those whom still wish to use it. However, the removal of the jack has got to make room for an extra sensor or two - which provide additional functionalities.

Also, don’t you hate when your 3mm jack breaks off into the port?

No new sensors were added due to the removal of the jack if I’m not mistaken. If you have differing information please share!

Good points. Btw you’re surely not the only person losing the dongles - what helps me personally is if I leave the dongle attached to the headphones instead of taking it with me.

initially I was pretty annoyed by the removal of the jack but since I switched to AirPods I can't imagine using wired earbuds ever again with my phone.

apple does a lot of stupid things but this isn't one them. as i've said on this website many times, there's no need for technology that's over 100 years old to be in a device today. time to move on.

it's stubborn ppl that just won't let old things die. we can't move on as a society until that happens...

That "wheel" technology from thousands of years ago must really be in the way of progress on all the cars and everything else that uses wheels. ;)

Side note related to 3.5 Jack/AirPods:

I envision the AirPods 2 will be something really special for 2019, by far they are Apples best accessory to the iPhone when they launched at the end of 2016. My ‘Launch Day’ AirPods are still perfect, battery life is strong and I’m still impressed with the adequate Bass/treble they produce.
