Do you care that the iPhone 7 came without a headphone jack?

  • Yes, I still wish the iPhone 7 would have come with a headphone jack.

  • No, I never did and/or bluetooth/lightning-adapter are fine for my usage.

I have a long commute and a car without bluetooth. I can't charge and listen to music simultaneously. I realize it's not everyone's situation, but I miss it daily.

I use bluetooth in the car and occasionally with headphones but I much prefer wired in ear headphones and haven't found a good sounding bluetooth equivalent. I only really use one pair of headphones so I just leave the dongle attached to the headphones (usually in my pocket). The only really issue for me is not being able to charge and use wired headphones at the same time, especially for FaceTime or phone calls

consodering how rarely I use my phone with headphones I don't see it being an issue. Particularly with the adapter provided in the box, it's just an extra step to connect. At £9 it's not the end of the world if you lose it or it gets broken, either (though maybe not something you'd want to make a habit of).

Nope not once have I missed the headphone jack. Been using Bluetooth headphones for a while anyway, so now it’s a cleaner looking phone.

Yes, you cant use real microphones with the gimbals around. Might look at an Android with a 3.5mm jack this time if I cant come up with a good work around to this stupid decision to cripple the iPhone.

Considering that I have stayed with my iPhone 6 a year longer than I usually would have, yes, I'd say I care.

I'm pretty much the same. I expected to upgrade my 6 to a 7 until it just didn't impress me. The lack of a headphone jack wasn't a deal breaker all by itself, but it certainly didn't make the 7 more appealing to me.

I've gone between the SE, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, and 7 Plus over the past year.

Performance differences, in real world usage, are almost nonexistent. The 7/7Plus still take mediocre pics if conditions aren't ideal, and if they are, all 5 models produce similar results, sans gimmicky portrait mode that generally doesn't work right.

The 7/7 Plus hold no real benefit in most areas to the average user, and to the ones that use nice wired headphones? It's a downgrade.

I have been there. Having Bluetooth in the vehicle is a nice advantage. It at least allows me to directly charge my iPhone 7 and stream my music as well. Especially where signal drops in area's and the Battery depletes quickly. So charging and streaming is a nice benefit.

I still hate it. I can't charge and play in the Jeep at the same time. I bought one of those stupid Belkin things and it doesn't work with a male to male connector only headphones.

Would have been nice if they mentioned that before I bought the phone.

For me it is something I have come to miss in various circumstances. I have a 90 minute commute so my phone is very important for that commute. My car has an iphone/iPod input but when I drive my wife's Jeep it only has aux interface. (Luckily I will be replacing that this november for her birthday) for me it absolutely socks not having both ports. I otherwise love the phone.

Edit it seems to plague owners of Chrysler's that are stock head units more

Exactly.

I've owned every iPhone (non-S) model since the 3 and bought them on the first day of release, but I skipped the last cycle. As you said, the 7 wasn't impressive and the normal internal excuse I use in my head to upgrade (faster speed) was for the first time mitigated by a negative (headphone jack) so I took a pass.

My 6 is performing just fine, by the way. My battery is stellar, still lasts a full day, the screen doesn't have so much as a scratch, I can launch apps, make great home movies, and hit websites just fine, not hurting me in any way. If Apple doesn't knock it out of the park with the 8, I'm going to continue to ride on with my 6, it's been a trusted partner for three years, could easily go another two methinks.

Bluetooth headphones and a car infotainment system that supports CarPlay have made the 3.5mm jack redundant in my case.

So yeah, I'll (begrudgingly) admit that I don't need or really miss it anymore.

Whoever is happy with Bluetooth headphones, don't you get into a situation where you wanted to listen to music for an extended time & you can't because the battery would run out on your headphones? Plus streaming audio via Bluetooth also drains the phone battery way faster compared to 3.5 jack corded headphones.

For me, it was never an issue. I was using Powerbeats before Airpods came out.

With the Airpods now I don't miss the cable earphones at all.

Why begrudgingly? That's like saying you miss the floppy drive but have no need for it.

Oh god, don't get me started on floppy drives...:p

I guess it's a combination of still being unconvinced of Apples reasoning to omit the 3.5mm jack altogether and earlier issues where I would stash adapters everywhere just to work around it.

I'd wager most people dont care about sound quality and use the supplied apple earphones. Lots of them on the street.

I do and I don't.
What has changed for me is I now use my iPhone 7+ far less for music. I have an iPod, my PC, my iPad. I have added a few BT speakers throughout the house and do use my iPhone on occasion. Own a set of BT B&O for use with the iPhone. Tried Airpods but the sound quality was substandard and they did not fit my ears correctly.

End result: Apple has pushed my music use away from my iPhone. (update) My use of my iPhone to watch video has also decreased.

Most people I know seem to use the adapter, the clumsy workaround method.

This may sound frivolous, but what I don't like about the adapter, it Adds more length to the headphone cord as it already is. It just looks kind of awkward with the adapter attached to the cord. Not a big deal by any means, but I haven't lost any adapters yet.
