Pretty dumb. Hinders the phone in terms of future proofing just to save a few pennies and increase the profit margin by a couple of ticks.

If the iPhone 6 is at 1gb of ram then it'll be 3 years that they've been at 1gb. Do they not upgrade the ram on Macs just because X amount of ram is "enough?"

As disappointed as I am, it's important to note that the iPhone operates fine on 1 GB. It's really the iPad that needs more for safari. But I agree, this will hold the iPhone back from becoming more than it is currently. Software can only be so advanced when running with limited RAM.

If Apple keeps being stingy on RAM, it would be really nice if virtual memory was added to iOS.

nonsense. I'm tired of my apps having to relaunch themselves. Enough is enough of this 1GB crap.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this. I was thinking that this wasn't a particularly big deal but this does happen to me all the time, so now I understand why people are upset. Hopefully Apple does give it a bump, I was wondering why my apps kept reloading all the time.

I was always wondering why I did that. That's because there's not enough RAM

Apple makes billions, billions of dollars from their fans, supporters and yet they can't put up 2gb of ram? I don't get it.

Only 1GB of RAM?!?!

I'm not convinced that the image shown even indicates that the iPhone 6 will have 1GB of RAM.

From what I see on the image, this is what is printed:
H9CKNNN_KTMR_R

Now, let's compare this against the below:
http://www.skhynix.com/products/mob...nfo.ramKind=33&info.eol=NOT&posMap=MobileDDR3

1) H9CCNNN4GTMLAR (4Gb = 512MB)
2) H9CCNNN8JTALAR (8Gb = 1GB)
3) H9CCNNN8KTALBR (8Gb = 1GB)
4) H9CKNNN8GTMPLR (8Gb = 1GB)
5) H9CCNNNBLTALAR (16Gb = 2GB)
6) H9CCNNNBPTALBR (16Gb = 2GB)
7) H9CKNNNBJTMPLR (16Gb = 2GB)
8) H9CKNNNBKTMRPR (16Gb = 2GB)
9) H9CKNNNBKTMTDR (16Gb = 2GB)
10) H9CKNNNBPTATDR (16Gb = 2GB)
11) H9CKNNNDATMRPR (24Gb = 3GB)
12) H9CKNNNDATMTDR (24Gb = 3GB)

Row's 1-3 and 5-6 can be eliminated since they start as "H9CCNNN..." rather than the 'H9CKNNN...' we are looking for.

So far this leaves the following:

4) H9CKNNN8GTMPLR (8Gb = 1GB)
7) H9CKNNNBJTMPLR (16Gb = 2GB)
8) H9CKNNNBKTMRPR (16Gb = 2GB)
9) H9CKNNNBKTMTDR (16Gb = 2GB)
10) H9CKNNNBPTATDR (16Gb = 2GB)
11) H9CKNNNDATMRPR (24Gb = 3GB)
12) H9CKNNNDATMTDR (24Gb = 3GB)

After the 1st letter in question (8 or is it a B?), the sequence continues with what looks to be "KTM", so let's look at what that leaves us: Lines 7, and 10-12 can be removed as well, so we now have this left:

4) H9CKNNN8GTMPLR (8Gb = 1GB)
8) H9CKNNNBKTMRPR (16Gb = 2GB)
9) H9CKNNNBKTMTDR (16Gb = 2GB)

Looking at the remaining three digits, it looks like R_R (looks like a 'W' in between, but that doesn't match up with anything above), so looking at what we are left with, we just have:

8) H9CKNNNBKTMRPR (16Gb = 2GB)

The above leads me to believe that the iPhone 6 will indeed have 2GB of RAM; and continues the "tradition" of doubling/increasing RAM every form factor change. I don't know why it looks like a 'W' in the pictures, as opposed to a 'P' above, but this is what I have so far.

The above makes sense to me, but let me know if someone sees anything I may have done wrong.

Although I believe 1GB RAM is definitely enough for now, I don't believe it is enough for iOS X or newer version. I think this phone will be like an iPad 1, where it is crippled with only 256MB of RAM, and only receive one major upgrade.

It is quite surprising that iOS can run perfectly fine with multitasking on 1GB RAM, where my S3 is struggling to alive with 1GB RAM. Furthermore, iOS is an 64 bit software.

However, I would not buy iPhone 6 anyway. I use my phone for 3 - 5 years. I also never sells my phone, I kept it or give them to my relatives. I might wait iPhone 6S, where the RAM is sufficient for long term.

Oh well, wait another year for me (currently iPhone 5, already waited almost 2 years)

I don't understand this mentality. Neither do I understand why Apple didn't put more RAM in the current generation iPads. I hope at least the refreshed iPads get 2GB RAM. I love my retina mini, but I am SICK of Safari tabs reloading when I only have three open and I check one of them for a split second. And my apps always seem to have to refresh themselves in the same manner.

Think of it like a fat person who likes cakes - the more cakes you give them, the more they will eat. If you give someone £10 to last a week, they'll find a way, if they depend on that.

Ok, in what part of Europe is 1,8eur a day enough to eat and drink? Reasonable numbers are more in the 4-5eur a day range...

For perspective, an Xbox 350 has only 512MB of slower RAM. Not really an issue for an efficient system.

And who knows, maybe it's LPDDR4.

A8 Chip From 4.7-Inch iPhone 6 Appears to Carry 1 GB of RAM

1GB RAM is adequate I'm sure, although yes maybe 2GB should now be the minimum as it's not exactly costly in today's world, but remember iOS8 should be far more optimised on the iPhone 6.

It's not the same NAND flash but I'm sure the cost is far, far less than Apple charges. Whatever, since these devices don't go "on sale" it only contributes to their resale value. I'm not going to complain that Mesa Boogie charges me 10x for tubes what any other manufacturer does, I can resell the damn thing for almost what I paid for it partly for that very reason.

Otherwise, I think you might be surprised to find out that the price of NAND storage has barely fluctuated in four years. There simply haven't been advancements there.
Actually, the price of NAND flash has decreased tremendously, in fact, right now on a per-GB basis NAND today costs a third of what it did in 2010. I think that you're thinking about DRAM memory which has not advanced very much in the last few years. Apple would have no excuse for not increasing (at least doubling) the amount of storage available on the base model since 2010. It's ridiculous, it's pure greed if they don't.

I hope it's not true but if it is, it's sad that Apple wants to save a few dollars and release such a low memory phone.
It probable won't have widgets and definitely no multi tasking.

The concept of future proof is to use until the next iPhone is released.

Can't give customers 2 GB ram, cause the incremental cost of that extra GB of ram would ruin the margins, and shareholders would not be happy.

Yes... stuttering video and driving a larger display to save $6 will be well worth the extra half percent of margin indeed

Erm no. Just plain no.

He is an engineer and had been very hands on in everything. He may not design squat these day but he knows all about the Production pipeline and Specs through and through. And more importantly the Choice and reasoning behind them.

It's like this 4G chip. It's not capable of the 225mb that is that Sammy 5/s clone thing... but NO networks hit download speeds Anywhere near that so whats the point. Save some cash. The original iPhone was 2g only(!) cos 3g was complete battery killer in 2007.

You know it would be a bit easier to take your word... if you knew the guy, or you worked at a high position there to confirm this.

I've had a Nexus 4, 5, and 7 (2013). All of which had quad core CPUs and 2GB RAM. And all of them multitask slower than my fiance's iPhone 5 with half the cores, half the RAM, and a slower clock speed.

The spec head inside me is a little disappointed. But the logical part of me keeps saying arbitrary numbers don't matter, performance matters.

"Many of you were wondering what is up with just included 1GB. Well, it turns out this is due to some brilliant engineering. We only used 1GB of actual memory b/c what limited un-expandable storage we include on the iPhone can actually be used as part of the entire memory system"

Tim Cook: "Okay. Some people have said why don't we just upgrade everyone to the 64GB iPhone. Okay, we'll give everyone a free iPhone 64GB model. If you experience low storage error messages, bring your iPhone back to any Apple Store and we will give you the higher capacity model. If you already purchased one, we'll give you a refund"
