Guess we can shut this thread down.

A8 @ 1.5GHz and 2GB ram with all of the display improvements of the Air 2 and hopefully improved gamut. Pretty sweet if you ask me! That single core score is awesome! Almost on par with the A8X.

yeah, for a product that is not yet "out in the wild", I'm about as satisfied as I can be at this point, based on all of the "real" and "anecdotal" evidence put forth. Put me down for a Silver 64GB version. Really looking forward to having a Mini again...after my 1 year hiatus (i.e. with the Air Original).

"To shed some light on the subject, we fired up Geekbench 3 and ran some tests. We can confirm that the tablet uses a 1.5GHz Apple A8 with 2GB of RAM, which is faster than both the 1.4GHz A8 in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and the 1.3GHz A7 in the iPad Mini 2 and Mini 3."

So now we know. Goody-goody-gumdrops!
Time to party for that extra 1GB of RAM that they gave us.. YEAYHH... lol..

I was looking at the performance numbers from the new iPad Mini 4 and from what I read on the net was that IOS9 required 2GB of RAM which is most likely why we did not see much of a performance boost with the new iPad Mini 4

They should have offered the new Mini 4 with 3 or 4GB of RAM. Not really seeing any major performance improvements over the Mini 3 here. In fact in some of the Benchmark tests the iPad Mini 3 with performed worse then the iPhone 6 which is not good. The bigger device should perform better and offer better specs.

is it just me or the mini 4 has a bit thicker bottom bezel compared to previous generations ?
I just took a look at my iPad Mini 2 and there is a slightly larger gap above the home button than there is below it. Looks the same to my untrained eye on the new one.

I haven't read that IOS9 requires 2GB of RAM. I understand that old phones like the iPhone 6 will get upgraded to IOS9 and it only has 1GB. The 2GB is for the advanced multitasking split view on iPads.

Personally, I would have loved to have seen an A8X or A9 in there but in the context of an upgrade to the whole device, look what the mini 4 brings over the 3:

  • 2GB RAM
  • Laminated, improved screen
  • Faster processing
  • Improved cameras
  • Lighter

The first two points are key to me upgrading and make it worthwhile to me for them alone.
You can also throw Touch ID into that list for the many people who avoided the 3 and stuck with the mini 2 - so that is a total of 6 tangible benefits of the mini 4 over the mini 2 for me. I'm also getting 64GB for the price of the 32GB model so that is another potential benefit for those upgrading from a mini 2.

I havent seen any answer to questions such as:
How does triple core help in daily usage?
What apps utilize multi-core the most?

I think answering those can help to see whether major advantage of Air 2 over Mini 4 in multi-core performance really helps in day-to-day usage.

Well, it is 3.2 millimetres taller, that has to go somewhere. Not sure if it's actually all in the bottom bezel or not though.

The improvement of an extra GB of RAM won't show in a benchmarks, more about how many apps (or safari tabs) you can have actually running without constant reloading. Going by my experience with the Air 2 it is a significant increase.

As for compared to the iPad 3 or iPhone 6. The CPU is only a little bit faster than what is in the iPad 3 so no, not a big difference there. Large difference on the GPU side though. The iPhone 6 is indeed likely to perform better in some cases, this is all down to the fact that it has essentially the same SoC but doesn't even have a third of the pixels to push.

I'm disgusted now it's confirmed the iPad mini 4 is confirmed with 2GB and ppl are not excited about that....now they have to look for something wrong with it like gamut or whatever!!!!

Then it's not just me. I had the same impression. Seems like there is a run of crybaby spoiled kids that are living their parents basement that demand everything from every product. These type of pessimistic personalities are never happy, suck the joy out of everything and live to complain to anyone that will listen.
