this is what Apple does. In fact, they always do this.
Apple doesnt like to compete with a spec page but rather have the actual device compete. On paper they never look good but ALWAY trounce their competition in real world test.
I think the only time Apple revealed how much RAM one of their devices had was in the new iPad keynote (iPad 3), probably because they were embarrassed that the A5X had no increase in CPU performance whatsoever, so they had to make up for it :p

Haven't found any yet. I'm in the same boat, I want to see some reviews, but we'll probably see them sometime this week.

Likely, and for the truly impatient ;) there's always the return period. The ones I want to see are from iFixit and Displaymate, which may take a little longer. Believe it or not, even with all the Apple-bashing that goes on here, I'd really like to see real user reports, too, and that will takes some time, too.

I would bet a $100 that the iPad Mini 4 will ship with 2GB's of ram. The Pro was confirmed with 4GB and both 6s iPhones have 2GB. With the true split screen multitasking being shown in multiple images on Apple's website I can't see how the Mini 4 would ship with 1GB of ram.

Because competitors announce their specs which are often 3 or 4gb for a tablet. Apple announcing such a spec would make it appear inferior even though most of us know that isn't always a true indication of performance or capability.
3GB or 4GB of RAM is very cheap these days. Having 3 or 4GB of RAM could help users keep data stored on the iPad instead of needing to download it again every time. When ever I open my browser and have a few tabs open and I have to go back to that tab Safari has to download the information all over again most likely because there is no space left to store in RAM. If I am posting in an application on a forum and switch over to another application the information on the app gets lost that I typed in and I have to type it back all over again. If you have an application like Bloomberg or Flipboards where there is news and you would like to download some news before boarding a flight to read during the flight you are out of luck as well because with 1GB of RAM none of those apps can pretty much store any news for offline reading during your flight.

They should just get with the program, lead with innovation and give us 4Gb of RAM in their new iPads. the iPad is so much bigger then the iPhone that they should easily be able to add another 2-3GB of RAM in there. Also spending $900+ on an iPad with LTE and 128GB should at least offer some good RAM specs. That is the least they could do. I bet if they offered buyers a configuration option to where they could choose between 2GB of RAM and 4GB of RAM many would pay the extra few bucks and get the one with 4GB of RAM, I know I would if I was forking out $800-900 on a tablet. Who wants to spend that much money on a high end specd tablet with 1GB of RAM?

according to the xcode release, some things have changed, others remain the same.

There is some random article written by some random guy that says the ipad mini will ship with 512MB of ram, because the number 512 is bigger than 1 or 2, or even 4. Another fictional article says that the mini will follow the theme that smaller is better, so 512MB. Finally, there's a possibility that the apple will improve upon one the classic systems an put it inside the mini...the MacBook Wheel, which will weigh less due to the lack of wheel, screen, case, or internal components.

Oh, the boredom of waiting. Only one more day until the 15th pops up for the in store check...though I think it will arrive on the 16th.

The iPad Pro has 4GB of RAM. I think that's more than enough for a tablet today.

You are right, it is.. My point is that with today's technology along with size and price Apple should easily be able to get 4GB of RAM into an iPad mini. Heck the new smartphones out of China have 4GB of RAM in them. I am sure that the performance of the iPads with 4GB of RAM would be quite nice and we would not need to refresh and download again the same pages on our tabs. Most importantly we could download save news articles to read on our flights or run stock applications more fluently without any lagging taking place. I just don't see how a tablet can offer us half the memory or 1/4 of the memory of what a smartphone offers us.

You make a fair point, but we must first see how the iPad mini 4 performs with 2GB of RAM. If it's adequate, why would it matter?

4gb RAM in the mini would use 4 X the power that 1gb uses. The mini is already constrained to meet the battery life requirements in the smaller chassis. I believe LP-DDR4 would be more power efficient but that is a more expensive type of RAM at the moment so unlikely to be a viable option given it would eat into the profit margin.
I agree it is long overdue but 2gb RAM is one of the two main reasons I'm upgrading to the mini 4, the other being the improved screen.

RAM is not what I'm worried about, although others seem to be.

Battery life in the real world will be interesting. My Mini 2 gets amazing battery life.

The Samsung Note 4 had a 3220 mAh battery in it and the size of that Samsung Note 4 is about 1/3 of the Mini so surely they could stick a good 7000-8000 mAh battery in there. I would rather that it not be .5mm thinner and it have 4GB of RAM along with a longer battery life then it coming with 1-2 GB of RAM and shorter battery life.

I think Apple has the technology and capability to up the ante on the iPad mini.

2 GB of RAM will be adequate in iOS devices for at least 3 years or so. It took them that long to bump it up to 2, so I imagine it'll take that long until 3 becomes a standard.

Based on what? There is an embargo on declaring official stats not published by Apple so that site is merely guessing that it is 1GB given other A8 devices only have 1GB. A couple of other sites made that mistake and quickly changed their reporting of memory to N/A - especially one that would likely already know the figure but can't report it for the time being. The A8 in the Apple TV has 2GB and it is a stick on that the mini 4 will have the same - we just need to wait for some kind of official confirmation.

Multiple sources that get their information right 99.9% of the time are reporting 2gb of RAM. I would be willing to make a friendly wager that the Mini 4 will have 2gb of ram.;)

That said,...
It's how the Ram is implemented and not just the amount of Ram that matters. It's why a 1gb Mini 3 is faster than the Tab S with 3gb. The battery life is also a factor. The androids running higher GB that are actually slower in the real world, are getting far less battery life. This is why Apple will never compete in hypothetical performance test by what the spec sheet reads.

so who has ordered one?

I'm really tempted but want to see if it does come with 2GB of ram first

Quite a few on here have ordered. I have two due to be delivered on Wednesday - will see if they are dispatched this evening or early tomorrow as I suspect it is all regional distribution instead of previous years when they came direct from China. I would imagine the embargo for reviews is lifted on Wednesday too.

looking forward to your thoughts on it

I haven't read the whole thread, but I phoned Apple tech support, who confirmed it with senior tech management:

iPad Mini 4 has:
- 2GB RAM.
- Picture in Picture, Slide Over AND Split View.

At the bottom of this page http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/ point 1. says:
"
  1. Picture in Picture and Slide Over are available on iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, and iPad mini 2 or later. Split View is available on iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 4.
"

Hope this clarifies
