Probably Safari isn't snappy enough anymore. I also wonder why all Facebook-Starbucks-Power Users always need the latest and greatest...

Ask the Warcraft/FPS/basement kiddies who "need" a new video card every second month.

This is very interesting.

Rumors of:
--a 15" MBA form-factor
--Apple potentially relying heavily on Intel's integrated graphics for the low-end 15" MBP model due to NVidia production issues with the upcoming Kepler graphics chip
--delayed launch of Intel IVB parts, possibly due to increased demand from a supplier ordering more low voltage chips with the highest shader counts
--rumors of a MB docking solution

Granted, some information comes from Semi-Accurate; however, it does seem highly likely we will see a 15" notebook with a 15" MBA form-factor. Hopefully, Apple decides to leave a 15" MBP with a discrete graphics card for $1999, too.

Anyone got any ideas of how much these will cost?

I'd love it to be cheaper than the 15" MacBook Pro :)

It's Apple so it's fairly easy to make an educated guess. It will fall in line with the Air pricing, and the 13" is $300 more than the 11". So for the 15" add $300:

$1599 should get you pretty close.

16 GB RAM too much to ask?

There are some things I just can't do in 8 GB of RAM, so I'm surely not downgrading to 4 GB. I suppose the SSD helps with the thrashing, but I'd rather just have more RAM.

15" MacBook Air for a reasonable price will be brilliant!
Hopefully a 16:9 display too, it just looks so much better.

But, I do assume that the MacBook Pro line will be around too. Ethernet and a large HD can be a must for many potential buyers.

Probably the same type of argument regarding the Mac Pro.

A 1Gb adaptor?

Since Ivy Bridge will probably include USB 3 - I bet they have 1Gb adaptors. If they don't, I suspect they will release a Thunderbolt solution (though it may not be as compact).

My Macbook Air 11 inch is an i7. The highest end 11 and 13's are i7-equipped.

Though dual core vs. quad in the Pro.

3rd party has this solved. I realize some folks like OEM installed RAM (for things like Apple Care coverage), but it’s an option (and significantly cheaper).

I think there’s going to be 15” Pro and Air products side-by-side into the near future, since the Air designs seems to be RAM and port limited and [at least so far] don’t have discreet GPU options.

The 13” MBP I think is going away soon.

I dunno, maybe I'm a luddite, but I really like the existing macbook pro 15". I don't really see any compelling reason why it should be thinner.

I guess if it's thinner that's fine too, but for me it wouldn't be worth it to trade features (processing power, ethernet port) for thinness.

I thought that too -- until I got a Mac Book Air. I've never once missed the ethernet port, and the SSD erases (for me, at least) any sense of a processor-related performance gap.

The form factor is just so compelling. When I pick up my friend's MBP, I can't believe I lugged that brick around for so long.

Plus, the battery life is pretty amazing.

I can make by on 8GB OK, but I doubt for much longer. Lion is essentially unusable on 2GB of RAM without an SSD, and to exactly great with an SSD, so 4GB really is the baseline for a modern Mac.

Windows 7 is not quite as memory hungry as Lion, but even so I'd rather have enough room to run a W7 VM and allow OSX to function usefully in the background. 8GB gives room to spare right now, but 10.9 and W8/9 could easily push beyond that. So while I'd be happy with an 8GB Mac, I'd definitely want to know that I can take it to at least 12GB down the line.

I don't see a price. Do you have any further info on that line lump?

I see Thunderbolt, and my credit card goes into panic mode, but I know prices are starting to inch downwards.

The worry with a larger Air is obviously that like the current air, there *is* no third party ram option.

No Ethernet seems a little silly to me. Personally, I always travel with an Airport Express, just so that I can freely roam about my hotel room instead of being tethered to the jack, usually inconveniently placed in the corner of the room, by the desk.

Most people don't--and won't--think about such things; at least not until the first time they take the machine on the road....

I wouldn't be surprised if they offered USB3 alongside TB. But a dongle will be needed which is not very Apple-like. I have said numerous times Apple themselves should make a TB dongle that has several legacy ports so new CPU adoption is accelerated so folks user experience and physical infrastructure is not tossed out simply because Apple themselves believe in tossing out the old to get the new. Some folks prefer the good and the reliable over the new.

Can't say for sure which processor? It's a rumor site! It's a nameless tip! We do know with near certainty from the Intel road map what low voltage, low TDP, integrated 4000 graphics chips, they will offer. It will be one of those and it really is as simple as that.

How do you mean? Is there smoke coming out the back? Rust on the underside?

I always laugh when somebody claims that their MAC is on its last legs.

Hopefully they just mean that they have so much stuff on it and don't prioritize what to take off.

These may be people who don't put larger HD's and more memory into their computers.

My 1994 Quicksilver MP is still going strong, iMac G5 going strong , MBP 2007 and MBP 2008 going strong. These are great quality machines.

Probably the people also stuff their closets with old clothes and all and complain that their closet is on its last legs and they can't close the door any more:)

Retina Display would make this craze and a definite cop on my part... Actually a larger SSD would be sick too!

Obviously if he is running a 2007, he isn't focused on latest and greatest.

It is a reality that software demands increase over the years as such it probably is time for this individual to upgrade. I'm running a 2008 MBP and frankly have to displine myself not to run out and get an update as my needs change and software becomes more bloated.

The interesting thing here is that Safari is one of those apps that has gotten significantly better over the years so I doubt it is an issue with the snap in Safari! That however doesn't mean that other apps haven't become more demanding of hardware nor does it dismiss GPU acceleration in Safari which Ivy Bridge might helps with.

By the way I never partake in Starbucks and have given up on Facebook.

Oh sorry, when the poster mentioned 8GB I kind of thought he was talking about Pro models since the current Air only supports 4GB.

I pack a 20’ ethernet cable in my notebook bag :D

Ugh I hope they don't replace the pro with a air lineup, 15 inch in air format is pointless. I see them ditching the 13" mbp or the air though.

My 2007 MBP is also on it's last legs (Battery is kaput, 3 mins and it just power off's with no warning), Optical drive takes about 16 tries before it accepts a disk, Lion runs like a dog and Lion just eat's up it's 250gb hard disk (which i also think is on it's way out).

I just hope they keep the 2011 15" MBP and just bump up it's internals.
