What was wrong with the 6/6+ launch? How was it better than this?

I pre-ordered my iPhone 6 online once available, and it was delivered *at launch*. None of this "4-6 weeks" or "June" like with the Watch.

The 6 launch was awful for me. Somehow, apple mixed up the order in which orders came in at. I ordered mine at 3:07am and didn't get my phone till 2 weeks after the initial date; whereas folks ordered a day later and received their phone on launch day.

I ordered my 6+ at 3:05 EST and my shipping dates were out to November initially. The phone did end up coming in at the end of October, but that was probably the worst launch that I can remember in terms of people ordering early and getting shipping dates as far as 2 months out.

This launch is child's play compared to the iPhone 6 launch. For the 6 launch, 15 mins after launch time and neither the app nor the store was operational.

Obviously they're going to give numbers. They're a publically traded company, even if for whatever incomprehensible reason they didn't want to, they HAVE to give numbers, by law. So don't be silly/trollish, thank you.

You're wrong actually. They do not have to do this. No company has to do this. Very few details are actually required, and what further details are give are set by the company. Stock holders could attempt to force a change, but, it's not required.

Apple may or may not announce numbers for the launch. What they have said for financials is that they are lumping all Apple Watch sales in with the numbers for Apple TV and etc. and will not break down the difference.

So don't expect to get real interesting detailed sales numbers about this watch, and become edified about your mistaken assumption about their legal requirements here. It's no different than iPod. Apple has never broken down the different iPod models, even with an obvious large difference in the real category such as iPod Touch vs. all other iPods.

Are black sport models really showing June shipping already? How could they have that little stock available?

But you knew the stores would have those in stock. Getting an iphone was simple on launch day since carriers sold them.

The watch isn't available anywhere on the 24th. It's deceiving on Apple's part to announce that as the launch date. Go into store, preorder, get an august shipping date? That's sad.

Oh, okay then. Sorry! :) I (mistakenly, it would seem) assumed that Watch sales could be seen as a factor that would affect stock price, and hence be disclosure required, but if you say that is not the case then okay. IANAL, and all that comes with it. :p

In any case, does it really matter if they HAVE to or not? It's their first new product for half a decade. They're spending big bucks on promotions, dedicated stores-in-stores and so on. Would it not seem really strange if they didn't announce sales data...?

Depends. I had to use Apple gift cards, so I couldn't use the iOS app, therefore missed the first batch.

So you research and find out if this is possible in advance before the pre-orders actually begin like myself and many other people did you absolute toolbag.

This is definitely the worst Apple Watch launch ever. That said, I have a few on order. Am I disappointed with the "June" shipping dates since I overslept? Sure. But I'll still try one one Saturday. It comes when it comes. At least I'll have my new MacBook soon. :D

Apple sells like two watches and BOOM July - August shipping times already.

*Waits for Tim Cook to say they have the mother of all Watch and MacBook pre-orders to fulfill. *

They literally stocked only 5000 black sports. This is some BS waiting till mid may.

How do you know the stock?

because I placed my order within 3 minutes of launch and my black sport is showing may 13 - may 27.

Placing your order within 3 minutes and getting a delivery estimate of mid-May tells you they literally stocked only 5000 black sports? PTVMan's question is still relevant, though unnecessary. No one on these forums knows the stock (or if they do, they're not in a position to divulge). The only way you could know they had 5000 stock from the data you provided was if you knew how much stock they had (which we don't) or you knew with a certain degree of precision how many sales per second they were experiencing during those first 3 minutes (which we don't).

For the record, if it was only 5000 stock, they would've only had to be selling 27 a second over 3 minutes to push the date back in that period of time. I'm willing to bet they were selling a lot more than that.

There was no stock within 100 miles of me, so no, it wasn't simple getting one on launch day.

Worst launch...no. However, Apple clearly isn't delivering much on 4/24. I wish they'd be more honest about real shipping dates prior to launch.

seriously, this could be one of the worst managed launches Apple has ever done.

This is no doubt a logistical nightmare compared to what Apple is used to.

Remember that they usually launch a new product (maybe in 2 color variations) with 2-3 options for memory and thus rarely have to add more than 6 'new' products in the pipeline for a huge launch. And often people will go for one of the other variations (e.g. less/more memory) if the one they want is not available.

The Apple Watch though can be combined to hundreds of variations, and having everyting available all the time is next to impossible.

What will be really interesting the near future is what arrives in the Android Wear camp. There has not been any new arrivals in that area for months now, and there is surely more than a few new watches right around the corner from manufacturers that have had watches on the market for over a year and have gathered experience from that.

It technically hasn't even launched yet, so hard to really say it's the worst.

And considering the site and app weren't crashing and many were able to order very quickly, I'd say it is far from the worst. (Apple Store favorites and Apple Pay make it way to easy to spend money).

Now this might be the most supply contained ever. Maybe the iPhone 6 Plus sold out this fast. And if the fact that there aren't any held back for store inventory is a bad thing, then I could see your point. Personally I'm 100% okay with everyone getting in line and sending them to the store once online orders are fulfilled. The only thing I think they could've done better is limit the number of watches per person to one. I ordered two and feel a bit guilty that so many didn't get any -- not enough to give you mine...
