The order process itself wasn't too bad. Website wasn't working at 12:01 so I had the app open too.

I was done by 12:03 (had SG sport favorited, but for some reason it forced me to re enter my address, even though I verified everything yesterday), and in that two minutes my shipping date slipped to 4-6 weeks. Their lack of stock is a bit surprising given that they've had the watch announced for 7.5 months, and it will be frustrating if lead times are accurate.

However, we know Apple under promises and over delivers on shipping times, so I'm hopeful that the dates will get pushed up. I hoped by getting in at 12:01 and finishing by 12:03 that I'd be in the first batch, but apparently not.

I ordered early yet shipping is available in June. How am I to blame?

It obviously wasn't early enough. At the end of the day people can complain but what do they want us to do about it? It ships when it ships I'm afraid.

I was actually surprised at how easy and quick it was. My first pre order with too!

Used the app on my iPhone which loaded 1 minute after everything went live and got the 24/4-8/5 for Sport space grey 42mm. I admit being in the UK meant a more reasonable time of 08:01 pre order time though

I'm not complaining, I just don't understand why you say I'm to blame when I placed the order as soon as it became available for pre-order, yet shipping is only available in June.....

I actually thought it was the best. Ordered with Apple Pay straight from my iPad and was out within a minute. Easiest order I've ever had from Apple. Credit to them for making it so easy even with all the hype surrounding the watch.

Then you were just unlucky. Who else can we blame, Apple?

On a technical side, the launch was fine. People successfully ordered through the app right at the promised time, and the online Apple Store was live shortly after.

On a supply side, though, the launch wasn't so great. No model said delivery on April 24. Even those who got an order in instantly were given a date range: April 24 to May 8.

With iPhone and iPad launches in recent memory, the first to order received something like "Delivers on April 24." No range.

Exactly

OP's statement is quite exaggerated. It was common knowledge that these would be constrained at launch. Apple themselves even said so multiple times over the past few weeks.

If OP really wanted to get one on launch day, they would have woken up at 12:00AM PST like everyone else did.

Actually, the OP reports that he is in the Central European Time Zone (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, etc.—basically, all of the places shown in blue on the map at http://mapsof.net/map/europe-time-zone-map ). So he had to wake up in time to place his order at 9:01 a.m. local time. How unbelievably arduous.

Well, considering they announced it in September and are now launching it SEVEN months later, it's kind of ridiculous that they didn't have enough stock to meet demand. Either the Apple Watch is a much bigger success than everyone predicted, or Apple has mismanaged this launch. I'm leaning towards the latter, perhaps mixed with a good amount of demand.

I'm just a little peeved because I can't make it to a try-on appointment until mid-May, and figured by then I'd miss most of the delays and trouble from launch if I decide to get one. At this rate I'll be lucky if I get one this summer.

I'm in the EST time zone and I had to wake up at 3:00AM on a work day to order mine. I still did it because I want the watch sooner rather than later.

at least apple is still taking orders instead of saying sold out

Why would they say sold out. They can take pre-orders and ship till December if they want to. This is guaranteed sales for apple if they have people willing to preorder to infinity.

Uh, didn't you say that you ordered at 3:19 a.m. (EDT, I presume)? That's about eighteen crucial minutes after the Watch "became available for pre-order."

The Watch—and possibly especially the Space Black SS that you say you ordered—is simply a supply-constrained product. Apple has not been able to manufacture the millions of units that there is evidently current demand for quickly enough. In that context, it's just inevitable that wait times are going to be unhappily long, especially if one doesn't order in the first few minutes.

I know I'm unlucky. Yeah we could blame Apple but I wasn't even doing that. You clearly said and I quote, "It's as simple as that, you only have your self to blame." Wait a minute, are you trolling?

Have you ever heard of the phrase "you get back what you put in"? Clearly the case here, I wouldn't read too much into it.

They literally stocked only 5000 black sports. This is some BS waiting till mid may.

How do you know the stock?

because I placed my order within 3 minutes of launch and my black sport is showing may 13 - may 27.

In other words, you have no idea how many black Sport watches Apple has in stock and just like posting misinformation.

LOL exactly. 5000? lmao. I had my preorder in 4 minutes after it went live and got a 4/24-5/8 ship date.

I'm in CST and just stayed up till 2am.

It would be nice if they made it a more reasonable hour.

That's the time it became available to me. Well it was a couple minutes before 3:19am. I got the email at 3:19am saying my pre-order was placed.

I know, I'm a bit disappointed but it is what it is.

JGayle, you have only yourself to blame. I'm reading your posts, and you obviously have a valid point. His responses to you are ridiculous, and you shouldn't even entertain them.

I didn't want to buy an Apple Watch but tried to see what the delivery dates are here in Germany. As soon as the store was online and by using the Apple Store app, I tried to see what the delivery date for the various models is and was surprised to see that best case scenario it was 4-6 weeks.
The same for the MacBooks. To be honest I believe this is ridiculous. Apple said early 2015 for the Apple Watch. They also said that the MacBook would be available April 10th. Both lies.

Normally there should be enough for everyone that immediately went online. This was not the case. The Apple Watch will be available by the mid of 2015 and not early 2015. The MacBook will be available early May and not early April. Apple please stop this idiotic communication.
Where is Steve? :(
First they create a product complicated and unfocused like never before, that would never get released under Steve, and then they screwed the release too.
Short and mid term this won't be a problem for Apple but on the long term and if they don't learn by their many mistakes, they will destroy the company.

I never wanted to write these things. At first I thought they were doing all the right moves, but now I am disappointed. I love what Apple represents. I love their focus on quality and simplicity. I miss that when I see the Apple Watch.
What a shame. Please Apple, do not become another Samsung.

plenty of people got orders in time and will be receiving there watches on launch day. Sorry you weren't one of them. Apple has been saying since the march event to add the one you want as a favorite that way you can order as soon as the store comes online. It sounds like you didn't do this.

the rMB says it will ship in 1-3 business days....

It would be nice if they made it a more reasonable hour.

I think the whole idea has always been to limit the number of New Yorkers (Bostonians, DCers, Miamians, etc.) who are willing to stay up and place that order in the first few minutes, so that servers aren't too overloaded. (Making things tough, but not quite as tough, for Chicago, Denver, and L.A. then comes as part of the bargain.) The Eastern Time Zone is just the one that makes the most sense to suppress, and 3 a.m. is right around the sweet spot for making things difficult for first-day customers.

Going forward, though—and perhaps with the Watch more than any other product—the above might not be the case anymore. How long until the numbers from Hong Kong/Shanghai/Beijing/etc. (UTC +8:00, 4:01 p.m. for the to-date standard launch) swamp the U.S. East Coast? Will Cupertino start introducing products at 11:00 a.m. or noon Pacific on launch days, in order to stick China with the 3 or 4 a.m. opening?
