I'm not being sarcastic at all...I, too, would be ecstatic about editable calendars. I'm also impressed at how you can view PDFs in safari and they render perfectly...give it editable calendars, and the possibility of easily adding apps, and this is a PDA killer.

I would be really impressed if I could actually keep any downloaded PDFs ON the touch so that I don't have to freaking access the internet via wireless just to see pdf files.

The reason?

So here's my cockeyed theory about the calendar release (or lack thereof):

They did intentionally leave off the add/remove features to try to make the iPod less iPhone-ish. People got mad, and they want these features. So Apple will update...but not quite yet.

Why not yet? Think about the iTunes music store for the iPhone. Good ol' version 1.1.1 brought the iTunes store to your iPhone, and it's such a nifty feature that people wanted to update badly, so they did. And hacked iPhones got bricked.

I think that they're waiting until the iPod Touch has been hacked to release this "can't live without" feature, and in the process they'll break your hacks and fortify the OS against similar hacks. I don't think they'll brick the Touch, since it doesn't really affect them one way or another what you do with it (there is a risk if people are able to hack the wifi iTunes store, but that activity would probably be tied to your account anyway). Also, they're catching a lot of heat about the iPhone bricks.

Anyway, that's my $.02. Nothing like a good cockeyed theory every now and then.

if you have any txt, hi-res images, or pdf files on your mac that you want on the go, check this out:

it's been talked about a couple of times here and here.

it seems to work on the touch too, and well at that. hope this helps.

Says Steve himself (or his department robots)....

Umm, given that presumable hundreds of people E-mailed them about this, how come you're the only one who got this response? Once others start posting messages like this, I'll start believing it. I'd be extremely excited about this, but this wouldn't be the first hoax about iPods...

No, that theory makes perfect sense. I'm sure they have new features lined up for the next few updates, and will slowly dole them out to continue to encourage people to update their iPhones/Touches.

It doesn't really matter if its Steve Jobs himself or some office guy. What's more important is that this email come from Steve Job's address (assuming OP is legit.) It's one thing for some Apple Store Genius to say something he heard from some other guy, etc...it's another to hear it from a higher up email contact at Apple.

This email address is widely known, so Apple is surely careful about the information they dole out in replies.

Steve Jobs

I have written that email address before and had replies. Even a couple "back-and-forths". I don't believe it is SJ, but Apple employees who replies to these emails.

I also want to see this.

I could probably photoshop an email from Steve Jobs too...

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. :p I don't have time to make stuff like this up. Nor am I that good with photoshop. In any case, here is the raw email data.

David,

Nothing can be done about the games. The new iPod touch is a
completely different animal inside than the old iPods and the games
just don't translate. The inability to edit or add calendar events
is a bug that will be fixed in a future software update.

Best,
Steve

Dear Mr Jobs,

When I purchased the new iPod Touch, I assumed it would have all the
features of the lower models and more. There are certainly more
features there than there ever was on any iPod, but there are also
some crucial ones missing. In addition to this, all of the games I
have purchased via iTunes are now useless and there has been no
indication of any plans to port these to the new iPods.

1. On the 5G/5.5G iPods, there was the option to sync 'full
resolution photos' when syncing with images from iPhoto. With the
multi-touch interface and the ability to zoom in using 'pinch' on the
iPod Touch, this feature is really missed, and the 'pinch' is quite
useless as the image becomes pixelated once you zoom in.

2. It would be good to have 'disk mode' back again because not
everyone will fill the iPod's memory using just media content through
iTunes.

3. The ability to store notes on the iPod was a great feature that
has now been taken away on the iPod Touch,

4. Although this was never a feature of previous iPods, it was an
advertised one of iPod Touch for a week or so on www.apple.com/
ipodtouch, is the ability to edit Calendar events or add new ones on
the go. This would be invaluable to so many iPod Touch users and is
such a simple request.

5. Again, this is something that is frustrating. On the 5/5.5G iPod
with Video, there was the option to buy games and play these on your
iPod. I purchased many of these and I am really quite annoyed to
discover they won't work on the iPod Touch. If these could be ported
and then made available for download at little/no cost to people who
have purchased them, this would be great.

I still think the iPod Touch is an amazing device, and there will
likely not be anything better or comparable on the market for quite
some time. However, the addition of the above would just take things
that much further and make it perfect. Is there anything that can be
done about the games I have already purchased?

Kind Regards,

David Early

Nice dude.

Just an FYI, that was actually Steve responding to your e-mail. He has an executive team who reads his e-mail, but they will respond either with their own name or they will call you if you provide a number. On some occasions he does actually read and respond via e-mail. Congrats.

Thanks for the nice comments. I honestly couldn't care less whether it was Steve or not, but some of the comments on engadget are just unreal. Some people should try to use some common sense.

The only reason I posted this was because I thought it was marginally interesting to other Mac/iPod Touch users.

Thanks, David

I just sent an e-mail to sjobs@apple.com and to my surprise I got a reply! So it is true!!! That is sweet, when I heard the calendar was taken out I was very upset. Living in Canada and not being able to have and iPhone has sucked, but if the iPod touch adds the calendar app, then it's somewhat like a PDA... Now let's hope they add notes too...

Having the editable Calendar will be very helpful rather then using Contacts to type up my work schedules and upcoming events. I'm excited to see what new features they'll add to the Touch in general

Wouldn't be disappointed if they don't come out with any games as long as they add flash to safari because that would add an enormous selection on web-games

So now you have proof from 2 e-mails... I believe, cause I actually got a reply. For the rest of you, I guess either you wait and see or believe it now.

So Steve Jobs works on a Sunday? Now that's commitment.

Here is a screen shot of the raw e-mail. I edited out my info, don't really want it out there for all to see....
