Yes, we all know steve didnt answer that email. I work for a large software company that does the same thing if anyone not on the CEOs email list gets sent a huge mail box gets the message and a team of people sometimes myself answers emails or calls that customer. rarely will those CEOs care.

customer service

hey, so whether or not it was actually the steve jobs himself who emailed back, it says something to their level of customer service. to have emailed sjobs and get a response is one thing, but to have it also signed off "best, steve" is another. how many "best, bill" emails are out there? i'm leaning toward it prob was steve who answered it. on a saturday, maybe he just took a random sample of emails and this was a lucky respondent. whatever the case, again, apple's customer service is awesome and look at the attention and press one email garnered. :apple:

Dear Steve,

I like to use Google Calendar, and I would love to see wireless two-way read/write syncing between my Google Calendar and my iPhone calendar. I would seek to add this myself as a third party application, or find a third-party application to do it, but it seems you have locked out 3rd party applications. Can we expect such a feature to be added soon?

Not sure about the wireless part but this software may be helpful for your needs:

That's what the iPhone is for, Apple couldn't possibly overlap their products so much.

By that logic the nano shouldn't have video because that's what the iPod touch and iPod classic are for... or the Mac mini shouldn't have the ability to function as a fileserver or a wireless access point because that would be overlapping other products like the Mac Pro or Airport Extreme.

= lame excuse.

Even though it is well known, you might want to mark out Jobs' email to be nice.
I would encourage you to remove his email as well.

By advertising even his publicly available email, you diminish the chances of future actual correspondence...

"Dear Ndugu, ... I'll close now and get this in the mail. Here I am rambling on and on and you probably want to hurry on down and cash that check and get yourself something to eat. So, take it easy and best of luck with all your endeavors. Yours very truly, Warren Schmidt."

OK, after you fix the first bug, now can we fix the absent Mail client bug. As much as I like my iPod touch, I hate having to enter username and password and squint to read my email via mobile Safari. A email client would be great and I even pay a nominal amount to buy it so you don't cannabalize iPhone sales (OH I forgot the iPhone isn't even available in Canada ... so I don't think you have to worry).

I too am waiting to see the Mail.app on the iPod touch before I buy. But the calendar application is definitely a step in the right direction. The sooner it gets implemented the better.

iPod touch and calendar functionality - of course this will come; did anyone doubt it. Just let Leopard out and wait for the update.

Of course to enjoy all this you have to get your hands on an iPod touch ... I'm still waiting ...

I think many people doubted it, because why would they strip it out from the iPhone version in the first place?

I'm sick of all the complainers.

You bought a device which you knew lacked features, yet you post all over the forums with garbage about how you're entitled to game refunds, mail apps, calendars and third party apps.

Do some homework before making purchases.

You're way off the mark, the nano has video but also is flash based with lower storage capabilities, the classic has huge amounts storage. I see no product overlap their.

The Mac mini is low-end product for those wishing to have a basic computer for checking email and surfing the internet, no way near similar to the Mac Pro or the Airport Express (a product for making a wireless network which also happens to allow storage access).

So I stick to my argument, iPhone is the bigger brother to the iPod touch because of its extra functionality. The iPod touch remains an attractive member of the iPod line to those outside of the US who can't (legally) buy an iPhone.

I agree.

If the next version of the iPod touch comes out and its $100 cheaper, we'll have a chorus of "early adopters" demanding a gift certificate.

feeling better now?

well, with calendar functionality coming i guess notes and a mail client are possible. maybe after leopard is released.

with this functionality a iPod touch is five times as interesting for me. if some of this funtions come i'll buy one.

Not sure there have been many 'complainers' on this thread...most posters here have been happy at the email response, not grumbling about refunds or whatever...or just voicing improvements that they would like to see in future updates.

I guess your name is 'dagrouch'...

Yeah, those complainers really suck, with their emails to Steve Jobs about the features they want on their iPods. Next thing you know, he'll start listening to them... maybe even adding those features. All the non-complainers will be forced to buy better products with more features! The HORROR!

notes in leopard is part of mail.app. It's a mailbox, which mail.app picks up as being the notes folder. It even syncs with IMAP servers. I think once leopard is out, we'll see the true potential of the iPhone/iPod, with proper syncing of mail, notes etc, and the introduction of notes and mail to the iPod.

...Best,
Steve

Apple does not talk about future products/services. Asking what you can expect to see in the future will never get you anywhere ;)

In Mail.app when you hit reply it automatically adds a gap above the existing e-mail message, therefore it's telling you where to type you reply, on top as you say. Everyone I know does it this way, from all over the world, except on the few occasions where someone on MySpace has replied below, I'd say it's fairly common.

I don't think I'm so way off the mark. We're talking about features between similar and competing product lines and the choice (or need) to remove those features in order to differentiate those product lines. Hence, the iPod nano plays video, but the previous iteration did not (though the 'classic' iteration did, the iPhone does, and the iPod touch does). My point here is that some consumers want a really tiny iPod, and some want a big screen; similarly, some want an iPod with a phone and mobile internet (and they will buy the iPhone), and some want a really slim iPod with 16gb of storage and don't want AT&T (they will but the iPod touch). There is no need for Apple to artificially differentiate the products... the products speak for themselves.

No one is going to go from considering an iPod touch to considering an iPhone solely because they want to be able to edit their calendar on the go. If they do, they're going to be genuinely turned off, just as I am.

Here is my email back from Steve.

We had quite a few emails back and forth for a while on this subject.

He was pretty cool to chat with.

open that bitch up!

After finding the email, and guessing for the answer to his question for half an hour, I found it, but I'm not doing anything with it. This has gone too far.

See it is real at least..
