Agreed. Only thing it lacks from my wishlist is Apple Mail! Games would be nice, though....

Yep it would make a massive difference in attractiveness of the product! I want a few more to be honest, but don't want to underestimate the importance of E-Mail either.

The biggest problem right now is finding an alternative device that really has everything we want in a Touch form factor. Right now Apple is the only game in town.

I don't know why so many people are worried about the e-mail calling the lack of ability to update the calender a "bug".
Well E-Mail and calendaring are two different things on this device. As far as the calendar goes Steve jobs has indicated himself that the current usability of the Touch is the result of feature redactions to work around bugs.

There is enough info floating about the web to indicate that there are indeed serious bugs with the way the iPhone handles the calendar especially during syncing. It is not a surprise to see bugs in major new software, I'm a bit surprised though by how serious some of the problems are. So at the moment I see Apple as being honest and keeping its customer out of trouble with this bug.
They said the first update for the ipod touch would fix a bug but it was actually correcting the image issue.

Most updates do a number of things. When an update comes along that seriously adds functionality is a different story.

Dave

I very much doubt it was a bug - since iPhone Calendar works OK - and both Touch and iPhone use mobile OSX.
Yes, they both use this software suite. I would have been of the same mind set except for the one obvious issue. That is the support of the software containing bugs from third party sources. If one takes the time plenty of sights and threads can be found detailing iPhone calendar syncing issues.
Nope, instead, its down to SJ's giant ego and his inability to say - "I'm sorry, we got it wrong when we chose to remove the editable calendars". He has to make an excuse for his backtrack.

Well there are reports to support Jobs with respect to bugs in calendaring. That doesn't do much for the other short comings of the Touch. So it is not like I'm letting Jobs and Apple off the hook here. It is a matter of not being able to simply dismiss the issue of bugs in the software.

When is the new ipod touch patches going to be released. waiting for its release to buy an ipod touch!!!

Once Mail and such useful apps make it to the Touch I will consider a purchase + The Cloud offer.

Congrats!

Told you so!

David :)

Anyway, thanks for doubting my credibility guys :p.

Congratulations! I love when stuff like this get's verified... it adds to the weird schizo tendencies of Apple to be secretive but then to throw out blatantly public information too... so funny

I bought a touch today, but i can't seem to find any way to add appointments! it is running software 1.1.1 and when i check for updates through itunes it just says that 1.1.1 is the most recent blah blah blah... am i being a total n00b or what?

not wanting to be mean, but yes you are. the "+" button came to my iTouch yesterday when I installed version 1.1.2

iTunes is lying to you. Just keep periodically checking to see if iTunes gets the 1.1.2 or manually do the install (look for the link on the front page story).

I have been checking iTunes several times since yesterday and it is still saying that 1.1.1 is the current version! This sucks! I'm ready for my calender functions!!!

Why is it that some will update and others will not? Do they release it differently depending on location or is it simply that iTunes hasn't "looked" for the files?

Use the link here on the front page article and install it that way. The guys here at MR couldn't make it much easier for you. ;)

i have tried to do a manual install but when i do the alt click and go through finder it just keeps opening the folders and only letting me install single files, i don't want to do this in case it destroys my touch, what am i meant to be doing here? lol i am a n00b!

The file must remain zipped. Go into Safari > Preferences > General > uncheck "Open 'Safe' Files After Downloading." Redownload the file. When it is ready go open iTunes and into the iPod and Option + Click on Check for Updates. Select the folder and it will update.

Still no update for me on iTunes.

I connected my iPod 5G and it says that only Macintosh-formatted iPods can be updated.

Both my 5G and Touch are windows formatted, since I am a recent Mac switcher. I wonder if that has anything to do with my Touch not updating?

Yes it does. Windows formatted iPods can only be updated through a Windows computer
