but the nano doesn't have a (touch) keyboard, only a click wheel.

and the Nano doesn't have Wi-Fi. It's a different type of iPod. What is the point of having the capibility of input without any software to use it? iPod Touch is not your average iPod and we expect the ability to input information. If we can access our email through Safari, why not give us the .Mail app. to make it easier. Why not give us the ability to input into the Calendar if the device is capable of it? Other iPods are not capable of it. This iPod is in a class of it's own and shouldn't be compared to other iPods. Why else would i pay $400 for a 16GB iPod? Just for a touch screen!!!?? No, because it does more than the average iPod.

I put in my thoughtfully worded request through product support. May as well make the request a valid one and not just online wishful thinking...

So, Steve "uncripples" the iPod Touch calendar:), what about the mail app:confused:?

I'm with you there. I get wanting people to buy the full blown iPhone (with its service plan) in order to gain mail functionality, but it would add significant value to the iPod Touch and make it the perfect second device for people who can't/won't swtich to AT&T. Of course, that's propbably exactly why it's NOT there: helps push the fence-sitters into the iPhone camp.

The address is pretty well-known already.
Yes, but with some knowledge about how that email address is managed, advertising it like this increases traffic, decreases the signal to noise ratio, and dilutes its usefulness to customers who might wish to use it in the future.

I will get a Touch if they allow calendar and mail and maybe more open to 3rd party apps.

Steve's Time log - BST?

Looking at the first post - is Steve in Europe? BST - isn't that
western Europe?

You know, I suspect that apple is actually watching closely to macrumors and the macrumors forum. I mean, we are their biggest fans and such. So it doesn't suprise me that they use a simple email as an outlet to reach us all on macrumors.

Ok Let me get this right...

Steve is somewhere in the British Isles and has nothing to
do but e-mail Joe Mac User and share information regarding
one of the biggest complaints concerning the iPod Touch.

As much as I and may users would like this feature lets not get
carried away.

As Persifleur pointed out, that's the OP's time zone. It would have been, what, 10:54 am in California?

I think this calendar functionality is coming in the next Software Update for the Touch. Probably in the next few months.

hahaha. I would disagree with you, however, there is no way to prove or disprove either of these points. I still find it a little funny, I'm sure someone watches, heck, I would if I were at apple, however, I seriously doubt that our complaining has much bearing on the way the company is run or the features they decide to add or subtract (dont get me wrong, the mac users as a whole DEF can change the way apple does things, since thats the nature of the market) however, assuming that apple is watching what we do seems a bit far fetched (and I could be wrong.. and a certainly hope I am)

if they add the calendar edit option, that is great. But why do people want it SOO bad? I mean, think about it. Do you have your ipod with you all the time, or do you have your CELL PHONE with you all the time? I use my cell phone's calendar like a madman bc I wouldnt remember half the stuff I have to do for school. I am not going to use the ipod to remind me to do things bc I dont always have it on me. I doubt you guys have your ipod on you more than your cell phone. Basically, the calendar on the touch is useless unless it is ALWAYS on you. The iphone calendar on the other hand...

I use a Dell Axim X30 PDA. With the calendar features unlocked I would sell my Dell and buy a iPod Touch in a NY minute.

I don't know why so many people are worried about the e-mail calling the lack of ability to update the calender a "bug". They said the first update for the ipod touch would fix a bug but it was actually correcting the image issue.

Wait a minute. Steve Jobs takes time out of his day to write emails to customers? If this is true, this makes me really happy.

Of course, the fact that Steve Jobs has the time during the day to write e-mails to customers could also be a bad thing...

Seriously, though...the ability to enter calendar (and notes) text directly into the Touch would pretty much make it the PDA I've always wanted—and then some. I already have a phone, I'm off contract with my provider (T-Mobile) and I'm sure as hell not going to get into bed with AT&T for two years. So bring on the fix!

when is it gettin released

When is the new software coming ne idea...waiting for its release to but the new i pod touch

Mac Rumors itself won't change Apples perspective.

A few individual posts on one forum will not likely change the course of events at Apple. However if Apple gets the sense, through multiple feedback channels, that it has a large number of customers that want something different than yes forums like this one can have an impact in part. The problem Apple has is finding a selection of software features that a broad section of the population wants.

It is like we almost agree here but then you seem to discount what is obvious. It is not far fetched at all that Apple wants to know how the community receives its product. It would be unreasonable for them to ignore postings on forums such as these. The question is what weight dot hey have at Apple.
(and I could be wrong.. and a certainly hope I am)

Well I hope I'm right of course. That is mostly due to my hope that there are still some corporations in this world that are responsive to the desires of the consumers. In any event I accept what Steve is saying with respect to bugs in the software for the moment. At least for the calendaring issue.

More so I hope that Apple comes to understand that the iPhone is not the answer all of us are seeking. The three big problems with the iPhone being its Camera, the limited storage and the cell component itself. If you work in a place that restricts cameras and is under lots of concrete the iPhone is pretty useless. On the other hand if you do want some PDA type functionality you need lots of secondary storage. This makes the iPod Touch very interesting as many companies totally mis the mark as far as storage goes for their internet pads.
