No, you are wrong.

You would only need it in one corner at right angles to the protrusion to eliminate rocking.

You would need one at all the other corners only to make it dead level, but we are not talking about it being level, just the potential for rocking.

:)

Thinking about it more, no, it can't stick out. How about all the apps that have the built in spirit level thing.

Probably going to end up being flat, and this is simply a cheap mock up test.
It would mess too much up

^

Exactly. I would have thought that this was obvious - two protrusions at the top corners and the bottom edge make a VERY stable tripod; the most sturdy arrangement there is, even MORE than four protrusions :)

These are the exact same parts that leaked the other day by the way. As others have said the scratches and everything match, but I know for a fact that they are because I specifically asked Feld&Volk feldvolk.com to try removing the bands, and it seems they broke when they did this. Here is the picture they sent me. The part is definitely real, whether it's a prototype or unfinished or whatever else.

This is easy. Take a flat block of something and place two pennies on opposite corners. You'll discover that it would rock back and forth on either side of the axis between the two corners with the protrusion, since the other two corners aren't supported.

Other phone manufacturers have an external protrusion around the lens and Apple has the same external ring around the lens in their iPod Touch 5.

ugh, I know but THIS is not what it needs to look like. :(

----------

I don't think it looks bad. I think you people just need something to complain about... Whatever Apple releases (this or not), you'll love it when you see it in person.
I hate it and I have my money ready for whatever the heck is shown September 9th. :(

uhhh the other dude said the adjacent corners. So either both top corners or both left side corners.

I dont care about thin..

To a certain point obviously. Please don't make it so thin the the camera has to protrude out. Make it thicker and add more battery life or something. Race to thin is stupid and bad..

I'm not sure if this forum is full of actual mouth-breathers or just people pretending to be retards for fun.

You've all been in deep discussion over bits and pieces of a phone for months now, you'll believe and talk about anything. I thought this forum was supposed to somewhat know about Apple? Tim really did mean he'll double down I guess.

You're all gassing about rough manufacturing prototypes that got discarded and passed around months ago. Prototypes that likely look hardly anything like the actual coming phone but can at least can show how the actual phone handles the manufacture process to Apple. These prototypes have likely had design elements thrown in to try and make it look as far apart from the actual to-be-released phone as possible. Similar to when car manufactures test out cars and try to obscure their shape as much as possible.

Some of you honestly think that what you've seen over the past few months is a final, or even any stage of design of the real phone? Chinese knockoffs have more precision and sleekness than these prototypes.

Most people on this forum are likley 15 years old, or just incredibly stupid.

Dickson claims it's 100% legit but is a prototype, NOT the final part (which seems obvious). Knowing that it seems silly to comment on as we're obviously seeing something unfinished.

The protruding camera is not a camera. It's the iWatch. It's circular, made of sapphire and if you zoom 10000x you will see what time it is.
Let's start some good rumors now.

Quite ugly

I really hope all these mockups are some sort of Apple conspiracy to throw rumour sites off as I think everything I have seen is awful. The best mockup was the borderless one circulating a while ago by some Italian designer.

If this is it, my 5 will be getting another few years, and that's not because it's a wonder of design but because it works.

The last good looking iPhone was the black 4s, from there it's gone downhill.

Looking at the current leak, we can see a notch in the aluminum back that appears to be filled with plastic or something but I don't see how that could be the antenna bands as the cutout doesn't go all the way through so you still have aluminum underneath. Where does the signal pass through? With the iPhone 5/5s there was a cutout for the back.

If you look at this picture (the other side of the rear shell), you can clearly see that these bands go inside the body and therefore will be on the final iPhone 6.

I'm sorry.

No way in a million years can I see Apple make anything look this nasty and horrid.

Let's say for a moment it was a magnetic area for addition lenses to line up and stick onto. You would made a circular magnetic recess around the camera lens, not something that stick out so that the iPhone rocks side to side when you place it on a flat surface.

The bands look horrid

The shiny Apple logo looks amazingly super cheap and nasty, like some chrome plated child's toy.

Simply put it looks a cheap, nasty early mock-up to test out some ideas.

The final version will look way way better than this. It MUST do.

Circular magnetic recess would attract small metal particles that would be very hard to remove and would probably cause to scratch the phone around it while trying to remove. Non magnetic dust, lint would collect there too.

Considering most of MR is at the prosumer or pro level of use with Mac I would think the looks wouldn't be near as worrisome as the internals. I'm buying this phone if it's as ugly as a red headed step child. why? because it's going to blow every other iPhone out of the water.

I'm willing to be bet it will look beautiful and elogant. but that's none of my business though.

The fact that we are so close to September and are still seeing the same components over and over again makes me feel like Apple really did double down. We haven't seen anything that looks even close to production models.

I think I will buy it anyway in space gray/dark version time to move from iP4... BUT! for god sake instead of that ugly camera protrusion, they just should make phone a bit thicker to avoid that and put a slightly bigger battery on it, most users will appreciate that way more than 1 mm thinner phone.

From marketing point of view that protrusion is brilliant and evil move because will force users to buy case or bumper.

And.... if that ugly thick antenna separators will be in final model for me it will means that Johnny can't even do his s*** without S.J. I'm just hoping that they will be barely visible in dark models.

FWIW we don't know Apple's roadmap. Apple is a roadmap company. Since they tend to use the same body style for two years at a time, they may be counting on the camera getting thinner by the "S" release and decided to compromise with a protruding lens the first go-round. I obviously don't know what I'm talking about, but it is a possibility in my mind.

Also, please be Liquidmetal logo & antennas!

Yes, that's true. I will agree.

So it turns out that it wasn't an awesome idea to make the back out of glass after all? Who knew.

Which doesn't speak for HTCs originality, since you said it looks like an HTC in first place ;)

But seriously, really it looks to me like they are using the current iPad Air and iPad Mini as design guide line for the iPhone 6.
I wasn't saying one was better than the other......just an observation since I have the HTC M8. I am looking forward to getting the IP6 as well.......

Making the back out of a new material doesn't imply that the old material was a mistake. They've just moved on. And, aren't you a bit late on this comment?

i dont see a chance for special "camera mounts" back there. If people want better camera they'll just buy a normal camera. People need phone camera for taking quick pictures and i doubt it somebody would carry a special lens in their pocket next to the phone... sounds so stupid.

It's done. I've seen it. Here's some examples: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=lenses+for+iphone+5+camera&FORM=HDRSC2

I've also seen many people shooting a lot of video with iPads on tripods. That's done too. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q...IR&pq=ipad+tripod+for+video&sc=1-19&sp=-1&sk=

These are "everything" devices and people try to use them for everything. No one of us is representative of how everyone uses their iDevice.
