Just wanted to put it out there :)

I've used After Effect, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver & Lightroom everyday in a professional environment (studio w/ 20+ people). We use and abuse our machines/software 24/7 pushing the clients creativity in film & print advertising.

Yes computers & software crash, its part of reality... BUT without the great software Adobe produces, we wouldn't be able to create what we do! We also use alternative tool because not any "one" application does everything great. Alternatives for us are FCP, Shake, Nuke, Fusion (bootcamp), Gimp - we have tried everything out there and nothing else compares.

So instead of bashing the company who produce the tools that make incomes for many people... develop your own tools, find an alternative or give it a rest LOL :)

Oh I'm also a Mac fan, all hardware we use is Mac based BUT from experience Apple software needs much improvement. Final Cut is amazing, Logic is good, Shake had potential till they killed it, Aperture is so so... but everything else needs improvement and/or is consumer grade. Also I don't want Apple to control every aspect for it will eventually lead into complacency!

Thats about all I need to say, just make cool art guys - who care how you make it as long as its made :)

PS I run almost every Adobe app on my Macbook Pro 2.6 (2007) without any major issues and flash runs super smooth/cool on my machine only using on average 10-20%. Not sure why everyone else is having an issue with Adobe yeah I have crashes, maybe on average once a day between all the applications. Thats to be expected for how much pain I put the apps thru, just command+s guys & your days will be all good LOL :)

One last comment regarding good ol' Apple. Apple doesn't have everyones best interest in-mind - for example: Shake, wicked PC program - great potential. Apple bought it because of the market share, developed it for a bit - saw Nuke and Fusion where doing a better job at developing so they canned the program. Wish they would have just left it alone for Nreal to manage - we could have always used boot camp.... just a shame what Apple does every so often!
Good post tother. Nice to read something a bit more objective in these Adobe threads :).

According to Amazon.co.uk Adobe Photoshop CS5 will start shipping on the 7th of May.

Damn I was hoping to get my hands on it sometime this week. This is one CS update I'm actually looking forward to.

Anyone know if there's any chance Adobe will give us the option to not install their Bridge (to nowhere) this time around?

Dream on. Photoshop is THE professional standard, especially in the professional print and medical business. It would take Apple more than a decade to come up with something in that league.

It took Apple about a year to go from nothing to lead in the mobile phone business. So if Apple really wanted to, it wouldn't take them 10 years.

absolutely not what is going to happen. Adobe are so well supported must be near to 100% market penetration and it is THE industry standard

Ah, stop whining. If it wasn't for Flash you would have BitTorrent burning up your network connection and viewing everything online in Real Player.

And yeah, Real Player was worse in every respect, even when it was only the size of a postage stamp.

Thank you. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who remembers how much online video content used to be unavailable for Macs before companies switched to Flash (circa 05-07 when I first switched, or even longer - Channel 4 OD in the UK was just last year!)

We - The People. Why should anybody have to do what you jsut said to get flash working?

YEP, what I posted was to help someone to get Flash working. Oh wait, that would be a NO, it's to get someone's "supposedly" hot computer under control, because if Flash turns on their fan, ANYTHING that uses a bit of CPU will do so.

But still, you felt the need to reply for Alec, injecting yourself into this conversation. I'm still thinking this is some kind of Golem complex. ;)

Wow, Canvas tag. So what about all the other HTML5 elements that have been finalized.
http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/

This is HTML we're talking about, it's hardly rocket science. I don't use Dreamweaver personally, I use TextMate, but if D_CS5 doesn't fully support every "finalized" element out of the box, you can always customize it to suit your needs.

And if you drag and drop websites, may you BURN!!! :p

"And have been finalized," which you know as much as I, that HTML 5 is still a work in progress. Adobe has been preparing its products to support HTML 5 for some time, and no, not because of Apple, but because it's the future of "HTML."

Do you actually "own" Dreamweaver -- I do, or are you dissing on it because it's Adobe?

They're buried within a typical open-srouce mailing list.

Yeah, I'm sure you can relate... Good luck with that...

so so true. People need to start focussing on maturing the platform and making it run well on macs. I would happily use flash without question if it was less problematic

You have a point, but I don't think their penetration really matters to much. First of all their file formats are only used in development, once you complete the work you export it to something else. Which means if there was a viable alternative to say Photoshop, and it worked for you then there wouldn't be many obstacles to prevent a user from adopting it. Secondly Adobe opened up a lot of their file formats to 3rd parties, that's how for example Sketchpad Pro can export a layered PSD file. For those two reasons I don't think they have such a chokehold on the industry, it's just that there's a lack of viable alternatives that attract professionals.

BTW it sucks this thread has degraded to another Adobe vs Apple thread. There is a lot to like to CS5.

What is it going to take to get Adobe to fix Flash so my computer doesn't turn into a camp fire everytime I go to YouTube?

You can always use YouTube HTML5. adobe is Lazy so unfortunately that problem will continue to persist.

That isn't Flash, it's your Mac that does it!

Actually it's quite the opposite.

Ah the real reason Adobe feels sore.

Flash Catalyst CS5.

Apple made the right move.

Adobe wants an expansion of Proprietary Flash Complete Web Sites and not HTML5 open standards solutions.

That's just another reason, which shows that adobe enjoys to invest in OLD technology still. As been stated the WORLD is moving on to HTML5

Why do all Apple nerds hate Adobe? They're no worse than Apple and them creating their locked-up platform and trying to control everything.

I don't see the Apple followers as "haters". Adobe has had a few years to eliminate the bloatware from there CS bundled applications, and what do we have today? A few typical enhancements such as (64bit COCOA).

Their user base still pays an extremely high premium for this, with ZERO innovation put into there products. At the end the consumer suffers.

I'm sorry but you're telling somebody to get a cooling unit to play flash well. Do you know how rediculous that sounds? Especially when you replied to a comment that was specifically about Flash?

Oh Macromedia, people miss you so.

And if you drag and drop websites, may you BURN!!! :p

Like I said, I only use dreamweaver so I don't need to keep on going back and reminding myself of some workaround.

"And have been finalized," which you know as much as I, that HTML 5 is still a work in progress. Adobe has been preparing its products to support HTML 5 for some time, and no, not because of Apple, but because it's the future of "HTML."

HTML5 does have some sections which are 'frozen'. IE, that spec has been finalized.

Do you actually "own" Dreamweaver -- I do, or are you dissing on it because it's Adobe?

I own the Web Design premium CS4 and ponied up the $500 NZD for an educational licence. I edited my post, I suggest you re-read it.

Yeah, I'm sure you can relate... Good luck with that...

You asked where I got them from.

Apple is just tired of how un-Innovative Adobe has been with the CS2-5. It hurts adobes potential user base in the future. Companies like Apple try to work with Adobe, but it's hard to work with a company the

1.) Charges an unnecessary premium for individual CS not to mention the bundled packs.

2.) They resist help from companies wanting to work with them, to bring a streamline simplistic CS to there platform, at a reasonable price to the end user.

3.) They've developed A complacent attitude over at 345 Park Ave, San Jose CA which has led to them sticking with OLD technology for the past 3 years (instead of being at the forefront of HTML5 they resist and WILL be LEFT BEHIND) and has become LAZY due to it.

Give Adobe a call 408-536-6000. Call and ask for some more innovation over there. There CEO won't reply to your emails.

Content Aware Fill is the best thing I've seen from any company in the past few years. It really is magical and revolutionary - Jobs, take note!

Gimp has been doing this for years. A lot of the CS5 features have been available in open source software. Gimp is a real alternative for those looking to break free of the Adobe reign. I personally don't like adobe products have gone consistently gone downhill since they took over Macromedia which was the true innovator for a rich interactive web experience.

Adobe has already achieved there goal, but there lack of innovation with creative suite and there laziness to stick with flash, is going to hurt them in the long term.

It's just going to divide them and the people who want to be there partners.

Hmm, might be time to upgrade my Photoshop CS. (PPC version running painfully slowly under Rosetta.)

Unfortunately, any mac user who's tried this will eventually run into a problem where the file plays a sound at max SYSTEM volume. Usually the mac will trip something and disable the speakers until you restart or plug/unplug something into the headphone port.

I LOVED HTML5 YouTube when it worked, but the damage it does to your ears and speakers is unforgiveable, forcing me back to flash. :(

So, let me get this straight. Is it Flash's and HTML5's fault?????
It is weird because my W7 computer "just works".

If something works is due to Apple's great quality. If something doesn't work, it is the crappy Flash, HTML5....etc. I am happy I finally got it:rolleyes:
