:D That's true!. I think I just find it irritating that everyone you speak to has a copy of Photoshop. They tend to assume if they have the gear they are as good as you. I have even known a client get his son to do a website because he had Dreamweaver and had made a website at high school. Thankfully that's not the kind of client I want!

It's like saying your a master chief because your kitchen has an oven and sharp knives.

The design is only as good as the designer, tools just make it easier and more efficient to create the vision.

I think the introductory offer will only be available as a monthly option as I suspect it will go up to the normal price after maybe 3/6 months.

It actually says on the front page of the Creative Cloud section on Adobe's website - "Join by August 31st and get your first year of Adobe Creative Cloud membership for only £27.34" and on the Ts and Cs page "Your credit card will be charged at an introductory price of £27.34 incl. VAT each month for the first 12 months."

People complaining are those not making money from using their software. There are plenty of alternatives for photo and video creation outside of Adobe's ecosystem.

The fact that I can upgrade my CS5 Master Collection for only $549 is incredible. If you are a recurring customer the upgrade pricing is pretty reasonable.

Last time I checked for upgrading to 5.5 from 5, the price was heaps more than that. Has the upgrade cost been reduced, because the outright price is rediculous. I'm just glad I got the student pricing when I had the chance, or there is no way I'd be using a legal copy.

$49 a month (1 year) for everything for professionals is a great deal.

You're going to be upgrading in 2 years anyway, so $600 a year is nice.

The Creative Cloud introductory price isn't really a bad deal for web designers. It even includes a Typekit membership!

I hope theres a student version cuz these prices are still a bit to expensive for an average student to pay.

But it does look like a good update.

Yes. Just seen that. Sure it wasn’t there earlier. :eek:

The option to buy it for a year is there now as well, but I’ll wait until it’s available.

so if i buy a digital download cs premium upgrade package, can i re-download it again at a later time if i reinstall everything on my computer, and don't make an initial backup of the installer, or would i have to go for the trial version and use the key on that? if i remember correctly, the trial didn't come with acrobat..

So what are my options?
Dreamweaver --> Coda
Photoshop --> Pixelmator? (Does it do CMYK?)
Illustrator --> ???
Fireworks --> ???
InDesign --> ??? (Don't say Quark, I abandoned them 10 years ago!)
Give Vector Designer a try. It's like Illustrator. I think it works pretty good.

If you really use "everything" I guess it could work out.

But for two years that's $1200. I use the Prod. Suite mainly for AE and Photoshop. I can now upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 for $399. and will receive CS6 for free. So that was only a $400. upgrade since CS5 came out in 2010 (two years ago). A bit better than $1200. But like I said, I don't use "everything" so for others it may be a better deal.

For students who want to learn the packages - this could be a cheap way to learn them rather than having to pony up for a purchase. They can simply "rent" for a year ($29 a month) and find out which software they like and use.

This is a sickening trend. Big Brother corporations will eventually make sure people can no longer do anything autonomously and must be permanently jacked into their system and the internet. And yet some people are happily putting the noose around their necks

For multi-user businesses it's a destructive pricing scheme. There's no license discounts.

The subscription is tempting.

CS3 Production Premium Suite Owner

  • Upgrade to CS6 Suite: $950
  • Monthly Fee: $30 1st year, $50 2nd
  • Two Year total subscription cost: $960

So I can upgrade for little cost right now and get access to everything and updates, or pay the upgrade $950 (cost of a two year subscription) and own CS6 PP Suite forever.

The thing that has me concerned about subscription is that it will pretty much be the cost of an upgrade each year. The upgrade you get to keep, the subscription, once over you lose everything (maybe fall back to your original full version before the subscription).

For those that never purchased a full creative suite, starting off at a subscription cost is attractive ($600 over a year for everything vs 1,899 for a random suite). Those of us that paid the full price for a creative suite prior will find it hard to see the benefit going with subscription over just upgrading, unless you plan to use all of adobe's software that wasn't included in your suite. But I suppose that's the reason for the $30 intro offer.

For me, I'm 3 versions behind, so a subscription, especially the first year discount, is moderately attractive, but still demands some attention to the long term outlook. I'm still upset how when I bought CS3, CS2 users were able to upgrade to CS4 $100 less than me. A nice promotion for users two versions behind then. Then when CS5 came out, I looked forward to a similar promotion, but no, it was always considerably more for me to upgrade two versions behind.

LAST THOUGHT. Sure, you can upgrade every year to feel like you are beating the subscription, but 90% of the time everyone skips a version, nothing worth while. So if you are two versions behind, your upgrade may be around $950 for your suite, that's a large lump sum for many. So a subscription with less down gives you everything and updates over those two years. If you hold out 3 versions like I did, then you start saving some money I suppose, but lose out on that one handy new feature all that time.

Too bad Adobe wouldn't give you a bonus option at the end of a year subscription. Sign up for another year for the best rate, or choose a full suite at a discount as a long term customer.

Funny how Adobe priced it like that don't ya think?

Now THAT is too reasonable.

Unless for that $19.95 for Illustrator and Photoshop stipulates for only personal use. There could be a market for that and curb some pirating for hobbyist.

And to think that I just upgraded to CS5 about a month ago. Oh well, I'm in no rush to upgrade.

You may be able to receive the CS6 upgrade free because you are so close to the upgrade.

Contact Adobe about this. I heard about a February 6th cut-off, but I'm not sure if this was Adobe or another software company also currently updating.

My thoughts on waiting on each upgrade was too optimistic, things could be changing. Waiting 2 or 3 versions could be over after this year.

Excerpt from their upgrade policy:

Owners of CS3 or CS4 individual products and suite editions will receive temporary upgrade pricing to CS6 until December 31, 2012. After that date, only owners of CS5 or CS5.5 products will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.

Does that mean from then on, you can only upgrade from one full version behind? So say CS5 users won't be able to upgrade to CS7?

So you can upgrade from an upgrade?

Can you upgrade from a student to a full commercial version? say I buy a student version of CS6 and then upgrade to the full commercial version CS6.5 when it is released?

Yes you can

I bought a Student version and you can upgrade to the commercial. They allow it per their EULA

If you use it for work, you own the real thing. The people who pirate it probably wouldn't have bought a copy anyway.

That's vert true, I do make money off it, but am also in college, so I get sweet student's discount!

They make (a lot of) money, because the pirates provide the free

Ah, so Adobe is the one seeding it to all the torrent sites.. Tricky tricky ;)

It's the last two versions that can upgrade so CS5 should be able to upgrade to CS7, but that would be the end of the line.

so if i buy a digital download cs premium upgrade package, can i re-download it again at a later time if i reinstall everything on my computer

Yes. Everything is listed for downloads in the My Orders/Order History section of their site. It still lists my CS4 as available for download. It also lists all your old keys.

Flash is obviously DOA– even though I think it's fun to work with.

I think Flash as an internet delivery format is likely dead, but the software itself is still great for creating animations and can also be used to create ipad and android apps.
