Sounds like APPLE needs to step it's game up then .... because Flash runs perfectly on Linux and Windows

You are either a troll or mentally handicapped. Then again, what's the difference?

ugh, another release of flash. i wish flash would just go away. it's lousy, resource wasting unstable unnecessary.

Ditto here; it's actually a tragicomedy to hear that CPU usage falls from 400% to a "reasonable" 190%...just ridiculous. I am glad Click2Flash saves me the hassle until HTML5 gets widespread adoption.

Adobe is a POS OS X developer that should be bought by Apple with spare change and folded. No added value has been provided by them to the market ever since Macromedia was absorbed.

ADOBE IS DEAD.

Does anyone know if this version allows you to keep a flash video playing in one monitor while you work on a second monitor?

Prior flash releases had a hack for Windows to allow this, but I've beenhoping that someday it would be doable on the Mac (either via a hack or Adobe figures out some people have multiple monitors).

you really are clueless aren't you. Spreading all kinds of fud and misinformation.

Flash absolutely positively SUCKS on any platform other than windows: linux: poor performance, mac osx: very poor performance, mobile: its flash 'lite' and beyond dire battery performance.

it isn't the devs making the flash it IS the flash platform that sucks, get your adobe loving head out of your ass.

html5 IS the future, its open standards, less resource intensive.

You would think that Apple would roll out the red carpet for Adobe. Love it or hate it, flash is a critical part of what the majority of their customer base does on the web.

Also, Adobe seems to enjoy zinging everyone else over their "painful lack of developer support."

Apple has an interest in letting Adobe fend for itself with Flash. They want HTML 5 to succeed. They have absolutely no incentive whatsoever to help Adobe improve Flash on the Mac platform.

In fact, they want it dead. Apple has removed it from QuickTime, won’t allow it on the iPhone and basically sand-boxed it on Mac OS X.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Sure apple could create a plug in that allows streaming video, such as flash or silverlight, but that doesn't mean at all that big flash based websites like youtube are going to switch to this new apple plugin! Even MS which can push Silverlight in all kinds of updates for its windows users can't break the domination of Flash.

YouTube is not a good example. They implemented an H.264/MPEG-4 encoding system back in 2007 and have re-encoded all their videos in that format. That’s how YouTube works on the Apple TV and iPhone. Once HTML 5 takes off, YouTube can literally flip a switch and move their entire site away from the Flash container.

And where YouTube goes, everybody else will follow. The next couple of years are going to be really interesting.

I did a quick hulu before and after test on my iMac before I installed it.

It looks to be about 20% better in terms of CPU usage on my machine.... nice improvement.

Or maybe I'm a human who has an opinion that differs from yours ... DEAL WITH IT ... then again you probably don't have the mental capacity to do that since you head is so far up your ass ...

Oh please, if anyone has to get their head out of their ass here it's you. It's not just an opinion, it's a general consensus that Flash sucks ass. No matter what you say will change the fact that processors max out from using this piece of trash. The problem isn't Apple, it's Adobe's absolutely awful developers that are the problem. So take off your rose colored Adobe glasses and see how terrible flash is.

Don't you think that calling someone "mentally handicapped" over something as trivial as software is a tad over the top?

Again .. that's your OPINION .. and I still stick to mine no matter what you say .. Flash is the most installed technology in the world on over 95% of all computer .. You're the one who has to argue that down .. because that's not an OPINON .. it's a FACT

like I said before .. LIVE WITH IT .. lol

I hope Apple continues to take a stand against Flash. Flash is a closed proprietary kludge. With the open standards of HTML 5, Canvas/SVG, and CSS3 on the horizon there is no longer a need for Flash.

Flash may not disappear but it could be greatly diminished, to everyone's benefit, in the not too distant future.

Thank you ChazUK ... name calling was not needed .. I've learned when people take it that far .. they are usually insecure with themselves and name calling is their defense mechanism. It's a very childlike trait that most people never grow out of.

A shame it is... :(

Your opinion that Flash runs like crap on OS X is pretty much spot on.

Whatever logic you used to conclude that Apple needs to step up their game because Adobe chitzed out on writing a decent version of Flash for OS X is where you lost just about everyone...

Flash WON'T die so stop wishing it would ... you're wasting your time .. The Flash platform is bigger than it has ever been in it's history and it's getting larger.

You can create an app in flash .. and deploy it on iPhone, PC, Mac, Linux, Mobile, TV, and any other device that will support it.

Not many other technologies can do that!!! So suck it up!!

All of the C based languages can do that. They're high level languages.
Theres Mono for C#, GNUStep for Obj-C, QT for C++ and GTK+ for C.

Wait for it,

Flash doesn't need to exist with the advent of HTML5.

Yeah, it's the most installed because Adobe has a monopoly on the internet. Clap clap. You want to know what is fact? That flash player is a resource hog and poorly developed no matter how much you happen to "like" it.

Yeah, i'm totally insecure.

This is coming from the guy that can't even form coherent sentences without using dot dot dot every line.

Post your results guys:

http://www.craftymind.com/factory/guimark/GUIMark_Flex3.html

I can't since I'm on a venerable PPC machine (Powermac G4 - still going strong!).

I still don't believe the hype. The same they have said about the 10.0 version - better performance bla bla bla - and here we go 450% on a Mac Freaking Pro. :D

Well, crap for crap I felt obliged to test it; and I must say that performance does seem to improve. On my iMac described below I've got the following to report:

Before update: average 100% CPU (out of 200% possible), 16fps average;
After update: average 100/110% CPU (out of 200% possible), 40fps average.

Flash is the new Internet Explorer. The antiquated, proprietary dinosaur that only exists due to a monopoly and web developers not having the balls to say "no" until it's too late.

But, y'know, IE got "fixed" eventually and is a far better browser than it was a few years back thanks to increased competition. So it's not entirely out of the question that Quicktime X, Silverlight, HTML5 and the like can push web video and Flash forward in much the same way.

Here we go nit-picking again!! I proved my point and the facts speak loud and clear! Every mobile device (minus iphone) is switching to flash 10.1 and flash has a largely growing dev community!

We're not going anywhere :) so cry and moan all you want!

Interesting results, guys. It does seem to bring an improvement along... but still too little imo.

Is Adobe still DEAD as you proclaimed earlier?

Of course it is; in fact, 90% of useless Flash stuff I never get to see, thanks to Click2Flash. Want me to repeat it again?

ADOBE IS DEAD.

Just went to Adobe.com .... nope it's working fine!! Maybe in your dreams it's dead lol.

Where the hell am I nitpicking? Also I applaud Apple for not using Flash on the iPhone. Someone finally has the balls to stand up to Adobe and say **** off we aren't using your crappy software. I could really care less about mobile devices anyway, seeing as how I don't use my phone for anything but communication. Flash is not up your ass taking your resources when you are waiting for something to encode on a mobile device like it is on your computer.

You're right. You aren't going anywhere. That's the problem. Adobe is making little progress in optimizing their software.
