Adobe Launches Flash Player 10.1 Prerelease Build

LOL @ People who use Click2Flash and say Flash is Dead.

Why don't you just UNINSTALL flash!!!???

Oh that's right you can't .. because you still wanna have it JUST IN CASE ;)

Of course it is; in fact, 90% of useless Flash stuff I never get to see, thanks to Click2Flash. Want me to repeat it again?

ADOBE IS DEAD.

MS IS DEAD. DELL IS DEAD. The Android IS DEAD. ADOBE IS DEAD....

But they all still exist. Spooky or just BS?

Just went to Adobe.com .... nope it's working fine!! Maybe in your dreams it's dead lol.

Ah, and of course, this is what I always get after installing Flash:

Thanks for adding the JUST IN CASE there, troll...I am glad to report that the number of CASES is actually getting much lower now...and with Click2Flash you can exactly see how Flash is used (90% ads).

I don't need Flash for most news sites I visit (unless I wanna watch some specific slide show), don't need it for Financial Times, don't need it for webmail, don't need it for most Mac sites, don't need it for assorted Swiss services, don't need it for my e-banking...so I am good.

Post your results guys:

I can't since I'm on a venerable PPC machine (Powermac G4 - still going strong!).

I still don't believe the hype. The same they have said about the 10.0 version - better performance bla bla bla - and here we go 450% on a Mac Freaking Pro. :D

My framerate, running Snow Leopard, went from 19.89 to 19.91 on a Macbook Core Duo 2 Ghz (first gen). I've also seen absolutely no difference in CPU utilization when watching a youtube video.

And yes - I've checked to see whether it had been successfully installed.
:(

ugh i hope its faster then normal

i hate flash in general!

Flash is the new Internet Explorer. The antiquated, proprietary dinosaur that only exists due to a monopoly and web developers not having the balls to say "no" until it's too late.

But, y'know, IE got "fixed" eventually and is a far better browser than it was a few years back thanks to increased competition. So it's not entirely out of the question that Quicktime X, Silverlight, HTML5 and the like can push web video and Flash forward in much the same way.

Good post! I wish YouTube would switch formats to anything besides Flash. That would perhaps give Flash the death it so richly deserves.

Flash WON'T die so stop wishing it would ... you're wasting your time .. The Flash platform is bigger than it has ever been in it's history and it's getting larger.

You can create an app in flash .. and deploy it on iPhone, PC, Mac, Linux, Mobile, TV, and any other device that will support it.

Not many other technologies can do that!!! So suck it up!!

You're actually wrong. Flash has actually been decreasing in popularity probably due to the iPhone. Brightcove just announced a couple of days ago that they will be using h.264 through the Quicktime API. Brightcove houses a lot of content from major networks.

HTML 5 can't do P2P like flash can

There have always been others ways to utilize this.

HTML 5 can't dynamically create images or sounds and allow the user to save them to disk.

https://www.macrumors.com/2009/07/1...safari-and-more-on-future-of-video-and-flash/

Also who cares about saving it to disk? Trying bookmarking a Flash site and tell me how it works out.

HTML 5 won't be out for a few more years.. Flash would have leaped frogged by then making HTML 5 look old.

HTML5 is already in use. 802.11n wasn't ratified until recently. How long have n routers been out?

HTML 5 is not a cross PLATFORM/DEVICE/BROWSER technology .. and it won't be for years.

Yes it is. That's why HTML is a standard. If your point is that it's not used by Windows Exploder. Also Google developed an HTML5 plugin for Explorer because of Google Wave. Do you know anyone who doesn't have a Google account even if they barely use it?

:(

Just as I thought.

Much ado about nothing. I don't care that 5% of users are getting 10% improvements but I fear that the rest of us will be AGAIN left in the dust.

On a serious note I don't 'hate' Flash because there are some pretty amazing sites out there but I do hate viewing Youtube/Flash videos because my macbook pro turns into an easy-bake oven set to "burn hair off of legs".

You mean ... because SOME developers don't know HOW to program for Flash!! GET IT RIGHT!

Look at sites like YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Last.FM, Pandora ... these are companies who pay great developers to create great performing flash applications.

It's not FLASH .. it's some of the people writing programs for flash.

This has very little to do with poor programmers. Re-read the story. The incredibly high CPU usage was coming from sites like Hulu.

You leave BRLawyer alone! His insights into everything Apple is both educational and inspiring. BRL always gives a balanced, unbiased opinion on all things Mac.

APPLE IS DEAD. MAC IS DEAD.

Oops, I don't know what came over me there. :(

I hate flash ads so flash is disabled on my machine. I refuse to click on flash ads. I hate blinking noisy ads on web sites. I turn flash on only for sites I navigate to to see a specific item/story I then turn it off again. I hate the fact with flash ads safari will idle at 20-40% CPU usage with flash on. Flash needs to die.

"flash ads" is not Flash
