Still shows LR5.

I thought the point of subscribing to Creative Cloud is to get the new version when it is released? So, why is it not available when they announce it?

And yes, I signed out and quit CC, even restarted the computer. Not coming up yet.

LAME!!
Yeah, I'm disappointed in the delay. I'm trying to work out the cost factor, do I want LR6 as a stand alone product or pay 10 dollars a month for LightRoom and Photoshop.

Nope! Just replied to a comment. Now I'll look into it. But they haven't for quite some time, right?

They've always offered Lightroom as a standalone one-time-fee product. I suspect this was because it was never part of the Creative Suite.

It's great if you never need Photoshop. But if you do, it makes more sense to do the (endlessly annoying) subscription, as you get both for $120/year. There is no standalone PS product.

As of right now, Lightroom is ahead of Photos, no question. BUT, I think Apple has the potential to make Photos a downright fearful competitor to Adobe. Between future Apple updates to the program and 3rd party plug-ins (which we know will Photos will incorporate in the future), there is a ton of potential.

Ya think? Considering many pros have been using Aperture for many years, it certainly seems like they COULD. But see, they just STOPPED being a competitor. By their own choice.

I have mostly Apple computers because of the OS, but the silliness keeps me away from their other software. Including things like not even supporting Sigma cameras, which ought to be sold at Apple Stores, they would fit in perfectly with the Apple "way".

These new features sound like they add just about everything Apple's products had that LR didn't have before. Disappointing about the cloud vs standalone, though. I don't do enough with this to pay for monthly.

Apple figured out that it was pointless to compete with Adobe's pro photo applications. It would have been great to seem them try a little harder though.

They need at least one OSX exclusive program in the design area in order to assure the sales of Mac Pros and iMacs and Macbook Pros to a certain degree. I guess they figure resources should be concentrated on Final Cut since they already had that market and let Adobe continue on the Photography front.

This is Apple we are talking about. So no doubt they will have little to no incentive to keep Aperture working say in 10.11 and beyond. It's likely going to be a OS X upgrade that eventually kills it.....not Aperture itself.

Yea... just like FCP7 stopped working after a few OS updates right?

I see the article links to the iOS (iPhone and iPad) versions, but those still require the Adobe Cloud, right?

Gary

Yeah, you have to have the subscription to use the iphone and ipad versions - and even then the experience is not great...

Could you elaborate? It seems like something I would want, but I haven't wanted to pay for it, yet.

Lightroom CC users can use Lightroom for iOS and sync your images between the two. I have the subscription, but I've not really used this. I prefer using my computer and not my iPad or phone to edit images.

Does this puppy finally have graphics hardware acceleration?

"This upgrade devotes particular attention to critical performance issues. Under the hood upgrades, which take advantage of the newest graphics processors, are designed for better performance with 4K and 5K displays, with the performance boost most noticeable in the app’s Develop module."

Talked to Adobe... Having "technical issues" with the release of Lightroom CC. Check back In 2-3 Hours for the update.

What's up with these companies that announce something only to have server issues. MS had the same thing when they announced a new build of Win10 for the phone. Their servers had an issue and hours later they finally started rolling out the TP.

Sign out of creative cloud and back in.

That did the trick for me.

Quitting/restarting the creative cloud app is not enough.

I was under the impression that Aperture won't 'stop working' it just won't get updates any more. So if you're happy with its functionality as it is now, then all good, carry on using it.

It's not going to work forever. It works with Yosemite. Apple isn't going to keep it around for next major update. They want you to use Photos.

Looks like they're back-tracking on the 'iCloud only' app policy...

Didn't they say no more paid apps, only cloud rentals? Looks like they've decided against that policy.

Yay.

Cheers,
Cameron

Nope....just saying Apple won't dedicate any resources to make sure it works. I don't want to have to rely on software that at any point could stop working in an OS update.

It could work for years.....hell iDVD still runs in Yosemite.

Could you elaborate? It seems like something I would want, but I haven't wanted to pay for it, yet.

You have to create a collection (or is it a set?) that you then upload into the cloud, then pull down into Lightroom Mobile to edit. But don't make it a large number of RAW files, or it will take forever to download, even though they claim that they're using smaller versions on the mobile device, etc. I learned this the hard way. But even with only loading a set of 10 pics, I had all kinds of issues. And then the mobile software was freezing up, studdering, etc.

Basically, if I've been shooting all day and I'm getting on a plane and want to review and edit in the air on my ipad, it's not going to happen.

To be fair, I haven't used it since the software was originally released. I was using it with an iPad 4 at the time, which should have been able to handle it just fine (I can't remember if the 4 was the current device at the time, or if it was the Air). As they've updated everything, I might try it again. Hopefully the experience has improved.

As long as you're happy with the functionality of your OS and all your other apps as they are right now, too.

Over time, as the OS gets updated and Aperture does not, functionality will break down and eventually stop altogether. And the thing is you'll never be able to predict how it breaks down or what will cause it until you try the various OS updates.

If you rely on Aperture at all for anything important, updating your OS becomes risky. But so, too, does not updating your OS as security improvements, bug fixes, and improvements to the other apps you rely on with their updates (which often require an updated OS to run) make running these updates rather important.

Halting the progress of everything else you do on your computer just to keep one thing working is not my idea of "won't stop working".

And I only bought RL V5 last week
Usually you can get a free upgrade of Adobe products if you bought it within 30 days of the new release. See here how to apply:

There is also still a standalone version of the recently released Acrobat DC. It seems they are aware that some markets are not willing to switch to the rental model, even though they try to push people by withholding some features and potentially future feature updates from the perpetual license versions ...

It will stop working sooner or later. It currently only works under Yosemite because Apple was so gracious to give it one final patch.

I can't find this anywhere, just the subscription plan. Do you have a link?

It will never happen, the DAM capabilities in Photos is appalling, compared to LR, Its editing features are basic, where as LR's is quite extensive. Add in the fact, that Apple let Aperture whither on the vine only shows they're not interested in catering to anyone but the iPhone shooter who's interested in sharing the photos.

I believe the operative word in the previous comment was "potential".

No one would argue Photos today could hold a candle to LR or Aperture.

But over time, it may become something far greater than either.

When Final Cut Pro X launched, it was pretty bad. Practically unusable but for the most curiously minded amateurs. And it was targeting professionals right out of the gate.

Now? FCP X is amazing. A powerhouse that smokes FCP 7 (something I never thought I'd say, but it makes 7 look like a joke).

How did this happen? Apple steadily updated FCP X over the years since they released it, adding features, refining processes. They started with something incredibly basic but with a solid paradigm as its foundation and then they carefully, obsessively built on it.

Who's to say something similar couldn't happen with Photos?

Not saying it will. But it could.

Amazon is selling it as well (the full version at least). adobe makes it impossible to find the link to buy the boxed version.

There is ZERO potential for Photos. It is a way to share photos primarily taken on iOS devices, with your other devices and other users. It is nothing more than a piece of software to support :apple: hardware sales and iCloud subscriptions.

Apple HAS ABANDONED THE PRO AND PROSUMER USERS

Here. You'd have to go to the Lightroom product page and then scroll all the way to the bottom to find that option - and then it's the smallest button.

Anyway: is there a trial version without the Creative Cloud rubbish?
