The plan will continue to cost $9.99 per month and includes Lightroom CC, Lightroom mobile, Lightroom web, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop CC.
Given their continual focus on the mobile market and the cloud, I am wondering how long LR will be something that fits my needs. Yes they updated the "classic" lightroom, but it seems they'll be focusing their attention on the non-classic app more then the traditional LR application

Deduct it as a business expense.

The only possible way to complain is if someone is a software pirate who doesn't earn money from it. In that case feel free to keep using a torrent copy of CS6 (with trojans included) and telling the world how amazeballs it is.
I think there are more pirated copies of CC than CS 1-2-3-4-5-6...

I went the Affinity way, and glad I did, for 100 bucks total I got 2 awesome products and an iPad version too :D.
You are correct. It’s as easy as replacing one framework (not going to mention the name here though ;))
I moved to Pixelmator. One time purchase with continuous updates. Just the way I like it.

Looks like they won't be stopping it any time soon! Shame.

Just found this on the photoshop blog
"Lightroom 6 is the last standalone version of Lightroom that can be purchased outside of a Creative Cloud membership. There will not be a Lightroom 7 perpetual offering. Lightroom 6 will remain for sale for an undetermined amount of time, but will no longer be updated with camera support or bug fixes after the end of 2017. Lightroom 6.13 with support for the Nikon D850 will be released on October 26, 2017."

Thanks. I'll be looking to Serif and others to step up with their DAM offerings in a non-subscription model.

Lr Classic is a desktop version, but is part of the CC plan. Not a standalone. I don't think you can get it alone.

Lr CC is now a whole "ecosystem" as Adobe calls it, an online sharing, storage and editing service. Sorta like Mylio but with included online storage.

I dunno if you can buy more than 1TB. I imagine lots of folks will be putting only their working, sharing and gallery photos there, although if you do a lot of weddings, etc I could see how that would fill. Esp since it holds raw. Wonder if it does HEIF.

FWIW: With my update notice from Adobe for my "Photography Plan" subscription, which I've had for several years, the only options I appeared to be given were for a continuation of the same plan, @ $9.99/mo. and with the addition of access to the new Lightroom CC web application and 20GB of "cloud" storage, plus the latest versions of Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic CC ... OR ... the same plan with 2TB (that's two TB) of storage added at a cost of $29.99/mo. There didn't appear to be an option to choose less or more storage per month.

[added ten minutes later] I checked again online. There actually is a pulldown menu on the screen for managing one's account and electing either to stick with the current plan or to choose an upgrade. You can choose a variable amount of cloud storage space, from 1TB to 20TB, with variable pricing. The 1 TB option comes at a discount of 25% for one year, bringing the monthly total to just over $15 a month (and with a greater discount if you pay for a full year all at once).

What an ignorant, insulting post.

"Deduct as a business expense" simply means you don't pay income taxes on the amount spent. So it's effectively a discount; yet the deduction by no means negates the cost. Many people ignorantly think otherwise though.

Lots of non-professional enthusiasts spend their money on valid licenses and never pirate software. I've held valid LR licenses since v1.0 and currently have a valid v6.x standalone license. In the past I've owned valid photoshop licenses across several upgrades, but have since switched to alternate software (which I license legally). For you to suggest those who are unhappy with Adobe are just pirates is simply insulting.

Whether an enthusiast or a money-making professional, everyone makes a decision based on the value to them of the product in comparison to its cost, as well as a comparison of the product against its competitors in terms of achieving the person's goals. Some also include a dollop of preferring the standalone-license model over a subscription model, as well as a preference to support a growing market of alternative software options.

I'm a Lightroom 6 Customer and paid $144 in May of 2015 for a license. My Lightroom library 2 terabytes so I'm already over what they're offering complimentary in their $20 a month program.

The fact that if I buy a camera in 2019 to replace my 5D M3 and Lightroom won't have support for it is a shame. Further, the fact that I'm now a "classic" user means my days are numbered from being supported and I'm not the kind of person to always run the latest OS and upgrade my computer every couple of years means eventually Lightroom will deprecate to a non-launch application and I'll be forced to replace it.

As a non-professional photographer making no money on my hobby, paying $20 a month for something that i use to correct white balance in a batch and upload to Flickr feels like a waste. It was overkill for my needs so when it stops working, I'll just go back to managing photos in Finder like I always have.

FYI, to those with LR6 licenses locally, here's the page Adobe has about LR Classic:

Be careful when updating if you're an LR6 customer that's not a subscription customer.

Creative Cloud Mac app shows a prompt to update now. I open "options" and unchecked "remove existing version" which would have deleted LR6.

After I updated, it now says "start trial"

so I was wrong LR Classic CC isn't a free update. It's a paid update that requires I join their subscription service Eff-That. Unistalling now and will go back to LR6.

Uninstalled Classic. LR6 shows as "Lightroom 2015" way to make me feel like I'm a crappy customer for not running anew version but Classic also felt a bit like calling me "legacy" which I'm not a fan of. Who wants to edit photos in a web-browser?

Glad there is a team out there that “fixes” Adobe’s paid subscription model on their apps ;) haha!

meh. I played a bit with Lightroom CC - seems pretty stripped. There is no way to organise photos.
It's just drop a bunch of images and see how you sort out the mess.

To me it doesn't look yet like a ready solution for professional photographers who need to keep things sorted out.

Maybe I missed something...

You definitely missed something. LR is probably the most well known DAM and widely used by Pros. Google can help you find some tutorials on how to organize your photos, add metadata, etc.

Any indication as to whether custom presets will be available in the cloud? I'm assuming custom presets will continue to be desktop only?

Might do some more research on this when I get home. This new version of Lightroom with cloud support actually sounds pretty cool. If I could store all of my recent photos with Adobe and then edit them on demand in Lightroom (which I'd be doing anyway -- I use Lightroom) on any device, that'd be pretty sweet.

I'd still keep my external HDD backup of photos as well. Always gotta keep two backups MINIMUM or else you're asking for a world of hurt. ;)

edit -- After checking out the Lightroom website, this update seems pretty sick. Will have to try it for myself and make sure that all of the functionality that I'm familiar with is still there. Definitely seems like something I could get on-board with.

What happens if you need more than 1TB of storage? Do they follow the old iTunes Match model and basically you can't use their stuff.

With the name "Classic" I wonder for how much longer.
Exactly, it's pretty much THE product name to announce that once product lineup simplification comes up in a meeting again you'll be SOL.

Having said that, I am so very lucky I didn't trust Adobe keeping one non-CC full-featured LR around.

Still rocking Aperture, still mighty angry about the trouble Apple caused us.

Really concered about the state of the market for DAMs.

Please read again my post.

I am not talking about the Classic Lightroom - I am talking about the new Lightroom CC with cloud storage.

Well, that seems a tad misguided. I think you missed a lot! Lightroom's a great way to organise photos, especially for stock using collections. I would imagine that many professional photographers use Lightroom.

I remember, before I used it, I read of someone who said they hardly used Photoshop any more, and how sceptical I was. But I can see where they're coming from now. Lightroom is the go-to app for my photography.
Same to you.

Please read again my post.
I am mentioning Lightroom CC not Lightroom Classic.
:)

Yes, I read your post. Lightroom CC is the one I use and have been using since my switch over from Aperture. The web based LR has photos synced from my Desktop LR. You can still create folders in the web or app version. Is that what you're talking about? The web version?

Lightroom CC is the whole suite, not just the web portion, which obviously wouldn't have full capabilities of Lightroom but you an still organize it and sync it back to the desktop.

So is it that if you currently have the standard CC all apps plan you can get the new Lightroom CC, but you are left with only 100GB of storage?

Seems so. I only see the general presets in the web version and don't see a way to add custom ones.

OK so I am talking about the Web one :)

I use Lightoom Classic and it's amazing :)

You'd rather pay $600 up front like the old days than pay $600 over 5 years and get every update included along the way? I'll have what you're smoking!

It depends what your needs are. PS CS6 does everything I need it to do. It has done so for 5 years and will continue for many more years. So in 5 more years I will have saved $600 versus had I gone with CC (more if they decide to raise the price). If I went with CC then I would have gotten more features that would not be necessary for me and definitely not worth another $600. If you always need all the new features then yes, I can see CC making sense.
