I doubt it. The reason why Jobs hates flash has everything to do with business.
You give Jobs too much credit for having a business mind. The Apple bean counters follow him around and do this - no doubt clutching their chests at his every suggestion and losing years off their lives.

Indeed, his talent for "thinking out of the box" is to stay as ignorant as possible in all this business related nonsense.

I wouldn't let Steve make change for a dollar.

1. This was in the works way before the iPad, and it's part of the natural evolution of things. Software gets improved, updated, but here some how people talk about flash as it it's static, and if it gets updated, then it's because of Apple.

2. One of the biggest selling point when I see people talking about getting a phone or whatever is that it has flash. I see the complete opposite, especially with the upcoming improvements. You have to remember that not everyone is at Macrumors, or follow Apple the way people would follow the white house, or other important things. When you only get your news here, it's like the world, and everything every other company does, they do because of Apple, and that's not the case on regular, whole industry focused websites.

3. No comment.

1. Sorry, like just about everyone here, I've heard the story before about how the next version of Flash is finally going to be so much better, and it's never been really delivered on. Then Apple/Jobs starts pushing publicly to abandon Flash, and suddenly we're getting demos showing a new version running much better? To think that the two are unrelated is foolish at best. Do I think that Adobe wasn't working on something like this? Of course not. Do I think that they boosted it WAY up on the priority list because of recent events? Yup.

2. This may be true fo you. Personally, regardless of whether I'm browsing in my iPad (where I don't get Flash) or my MBP (where I do), I find websites that are overly reliant on Flash to be obnoxious at best. It is rare, if ever true, that I see a site that couldn't achieve the same results without using Flash.

3. Really? I mean, really?

Current version of Flash player is about on par with HTML5 as far as resource usage is concerned. With 10x performance increase, I wonder if it means that HTML5 is dead now.

Hardly, HTML5 is now the standard that is of use when coding websites with or without video playback the standard won't die.

Sure, too little too late...but, I still use Flash daily for watching videos, and I'll gladly take advantage of 10.2.

PS - Saaaa-weeeeet Star Trek shirt, buddy.

Standards do die all the time. Nobody is going to stick with a standard that is 10x less efficient than Flash.

You don't get it, there's more to HTML 5 then the <video></video> tag, people are not going to abandon HTML 5 regardless if they use Flash for video or HTML 5 for video. That's irrelevant, there's many more advantages to HTML 5 over the previous version of HTML.

I actually hate Sony as a company, but the Vaio ...I still bought it based on the hardware, not the company.

What's the difference? This is laughable. I guess you really showed them. :D

Sony could give a rat's arse how you "feel" about them. Same goes for any publicly held company for that matter.

I get it. I was just speaking the language of people who claim that "HTML5 is replacing Flash".

Well, there's a lot of reason as to why HTML5 should replace Flash for videos even if you look besides performance. For instance HTML5 is an open-standard which Flash is not. To me, that's enough I want an open web.

I think it is incredibly obvious that Adobe had no competition and got way to comfortable at the top of the heap. They are finally doing what they should have been doing the who time: constantly strive to make their products better and better in every respect.

I don't believe they were doing that from my experience with the past few Creative Suit releases. Premiere saw a big jump forward in performance, but in this case, Final Cut was sitting atop that hill with no improvement in sight.

It's amazing what being at the top can do to a company. I think Jobs learned his lesson the hard way. Now it's Adobe's turn.

There is a major flaw in this logic. Advertisers do not care how much Apple users spend on their computers. They advertise everything - not just computers.

You are way, way off base. Don't look at "advertisers" as a group of people putting ads for everything on the internet. Each company selling a product is an advertiser, the rest are ad networks and facilitators of their advertising.

Advertisers care very much about how much people spend on products and what they spend them on. Advertisers want to get their advertising in front of customers that are likely to buy their products.

The concept of just getting ads out to as many eyes as possible is a "Mad Men" era holdover. Now on the internet and with Google analytics, facebook, and all the ad networks tracking everything you do, advertisers want to spend their time and money getting in front of the right people, not just throwing crap on a wall and hope something sticks.

Because of all this creepy tracking, they know that Apple users are more likely to spend more money in certain categories, and they know generally what your income is, and what types of products you buy, and where you like to shop.

Flash is back!!!

Based on everyones comments, looks like everyone is excited to get Flash on the iPhone and iPad....AWESOME!!. There are a few Flash haters left, but hey, they can always disable it and go on their merry way to the virtual "smoking section"

Is this improvement on Windows too? Because even my crappy Dual-Core 2Ghz processor only spins up to about 6% when watching HD videos on Youtube.

Oh well, improvement is improvement.

I don't want it, Flash is closed and proprietary an open web is much better for everybody.

Now just wait for the penny to drop, that it's Windows-only, requires 8GB RAM, a $5000 graphics card or somesuch. Over-promise, under-deliver.

Nahh, MS opened up their API to adobe eons ago. This "news" is simply because Apple is finally allowing Adobe to use the correct API's. As such, I highly doubt you'll see any improvement on Windows.

Do you really think that Adobe was able to come up with a new version of flash that can have over a 100% reduction of CPU usage, in a month? This has been being worked on since Apple opened up the API's, last summer.

arrrg! Big brother is watching!

Where's my tin foil hat!!!!

I wonder what API exactly is needed, so i can look at 320 by 240 text ad with a little icon in it and my CPU usage is not 150%?

I se a lot of knowledgable people here hating flash, so you must know how can I achieve this in HTML5:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1060270/

So far nobody could explain on this site. Thanks in advance.

HTML5 is not a flash replacement, it is the next standard of hypertext markup language without which no web page can exist, just as html1, 2, 3 and 4 before it. I do wish people would stop misunderstanding this.

PS those page transitions could be smoother using jquery - grab a text editor and get coding.

And why do you care so much about CPU usage? Is it because MacBooks are prone to overheating?

Hmm, most computers use Intel CPU's so the problem is relevant to a lot of people. CPU usage does not only effect heat it also effect battery life and power consumption.
