Ads Coming Soon to Apple Maps

I'd be surprised if jailbreaking would prevent Apple Maps from showing ads, it would be baked into the code of the app itself.

I don't use Apple Maps at all, it is probably the worst option in Europe. Google Maps rules for me.

Yes, i use it regularly.
When using Car Play, Google maps "drops" the route each time I leave the car (like to refule in the middle of a long trip), but Apple Maps remembers the route.
Also, Google Maps is no longer good at finding the best route through traffic nor is it up to date on road closures.

Experienced this earlier today, and this will, at the very least, help to remove Yelp from the equation which is an altogether good thing. Clicking on pictures of a location, all the Yelp images require you to sign in to Yelp (giving up more information) and the images that were uploaded through Apple Maps require no additional verification.

My parents had an old car GPS that got cluttered with restaurant logos until you finally couldn't see the map anymore.

Yeah obviously Google has ads. They always have and likely always will. They also have a maps app that in my experience is far better than Apples. Like it isn't even close. I've had Apple Maps get me lost in at least 3 different states while Google has never given me bad directions.

I have no idea when that happened for you, but Goggle Maps has literally sent me to an airport runway when trying to get to a rural address. Both have flaws, both are constantly iterating, and in using Apple Maps exclusively for the last 6 years has never once sent me to the wrong address — both in my known city context I’m used to, or in rural road trips of places I’m unfamiliar with. My wife was the same — had it in her head that Goggle Maps was better and we did a side-by-side test for a few months. No difference in results. I know both our takes are anecdotal, but I would harbour a guess that you haven’t used it recently. Apple maps has a better, cleaner interface, and if you are on iOS/MacOS the integration is stellar. I get championing it if on android, or in a rural part of the world Apple isn’t updating frequently, but literally in any other context the results are comparable.

Agreed. I live in London, so there is some degree of coverage, but the quality of the information in Apple Maps is very poor.

One other thing:

For a couple of years, macOS would occasionally, but regularly, intercept the Google Maps URL if typed into the browser and would instead direct you to Apple Maps. I had a lot of problems with that kind of behaviour. Thankfully it has since stopped.

Been using it solely for years, if it caused me aggro I wouldn’t use it.

I do use Apple maps sometimes but mapy, here and google as well.
