“Apple doesn't regularly offer new storage configurations, and when it does, as evident this year by new camera features, it has a reason in mind. Next year's iPhone 14 is expected to focus more heavily on a complete redesign that removes the notch rather than concentrate on camera upgrades. Regardless, camera improvements are a given for every new iPhone. Still, there's no indication to think that the iPhone 14 will expand camera capabilities to the extent that a new 2TB storage configuration is practically warranted”

buuuut in your iPhone 14 roundup…

Kuo also believes that the 2022 Pro iPhone models will feature a 48-megapixel Wide camera, which would be a major improvement over the current 12-megapixel camera, and 8K video recording capabilities. iPhone-recorded videos on an 8K display or TV will "offer a better user experience" as a result, and will allow the iPhone to create videos and images more suitable for augmented and mixed reality devices like the AR/VR headset that Apple has in development”

Wouldn’t that warrant more storage?? 48mp camera, 8K video??

I like the look of that render....wish they could get rid of the camera hump though...
I'd probably order one if it looks like that to replace my X

We're still a year away from ever seeing the iPhone 14 and not even a month since the iPhone 13. Despite that, the rumors are already floating on what Apple has planned for next year. The latest rumor suggests that for the iPhone 14, Apple plans to include a whopping 2TB storage option.

With the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple added a 1TB storage option for customers, the largest ever storage configuration offered on an iPhone. The new option was due primarily to new camera features, such as ProRes for videos launching later this year. ProRes videos, in addition to 4K 60FPS videos shot on the iPhone, consume significantly more storage than regular videos.

Apple has marketed the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max as the ultimate tool for videographers and cinematographers, and the 1TB choice is inherently tailored towards the most professional of users.

With the iPhone 14 next year, Apple is settings its eyes on making its Pro iPhones even more "Pro" by offering a 2TB option, according to a sketchy rumor from Chinese site MyDrivers. The rumor, which should be viewed with a considerable amount of skepticism, claims that Apple will adopt QLC flash storage for next year's iPhone and that thanks to the newer storage technology, it will increase capacity to 2TB.

A report earlier this week from DigiTimes was the first to suggest Apple would be adopting new storage technologies for next year's iPhone, but that report lacked mention of a 2TB option in specific.

Apple doesn't regularly offer new storage configurations, and when it does, as evident this year by new camera features, it has a reason in mind. Next year's iPhone 14 is expected to focus more heavily on a complete redesign that removes the notch rather than concentrate on camera upgrades. Regardless, camera improvements are a given for every new iPhone. Still, there's no indication to think that the iPhone 14 will expand camera capabilities to the extent that a new 2TB storage configuration is practically warranted.

For the iPhone 14 lineup, Apple plans two 6.1 and 6.7-inch models, meaning the end of the smaller 5.4-inch form factor, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. On the higher-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, 6.1 and 6.7-inches in size, respectively, Apple's rumored to include a hole-punch design for Face ID rather than a notch. There's also the possibility of the higher-end models featuring titanium bodies and a vapor chamber thermal system.

I am waiting for the 5 terabyte phone to come out.
Seriously we don’t need all that storage space do we ?!?! I know I don’t , I usually use about 128g max each year if I upgrade or not .

I get that the cameras are very good. For a phone. The fact is that it’s still a phone. It can’t replace a real camera with interchangeable lenses, even if they’ve figured out how to fake narrow depth of field. They’re great as the cameras that you happen to have on you, but trying to market it as a cinema camera replacement? That’s a stretch.

2TB is nice to have if 4K Cinematic mode is added to iPhone 14.

(Cinematic mode is currently limited to 1080p)

I wish I could have a hybrid of iCloud backups with local Time Machine backups for iOS devices. You can exclude what you don't want included for Cloud and Time Machine iOS local backups.
You're better off with a NAS which can accomplish this while providing more storage than iCloud provides. Sure, a NAS is a big up-front investment, but they can do so much more than just store your data.

I’d say 2TB option rumor is BS.
Apple will probably keep max 1TB for at least 5 years if not more.
Apple never kept a max storage for that long on an iPhone, so it's BS... plus they will miss extra profit from top heavy users by not selling more than 1TB in upcoming years.

In France, I know 2 big TV channels who bought multiples 13 Pro 1TB to capture live moments easily. And I know that they are 2 big things missing : a snappier port to transfer huge video file (USB-C is missing !) and more storage for heavy extended professional use.

An even better option would be to let people plug external storage conveniently on an iPhone, but Apple would kill its own upsell strategy so they will probably never do that, except EU put an extra law on this one day

I have considered this a few times but the truth is, ISP's make this hard to use by not offering static IP or reasonable upload speeds. A NAS is great for local storage but useless once you leave the house.

Hopefully there'll be a faster way to transfer all that data than Lightning or AirDrop. Such a huge bottleneck in the process. Having the ability to store that much stuff I'm sure would be useful to a select group of people. But the workflow of those same people surely doesn't start and end on the iPhone.

I know someone who just bought a 1TB iPhone 13 Pro.
Storage he was using on his 512GB 12 Pro up to the day he upgraded? 71GB.
I guarantee he'll buy the 2TB 14 too.

Of course there are use cases, but for some people it's just about having the big numbers.

I don’t believe any of the rumors we’re hearing about the 14. However, the 2TB one could be true IF Apple is seeing good sales of the 1TB option on the 13. Heck, they can sell a 2TB option for $1,800-$2,000 and there are people who will pay for it. But I still wouldn’t hold my breath considering we just got 1TB.

NO surprise there, Apple's Gross Margin is Lowest on their Low NAND Flash models & Highest on their High NAND Flash models.

If ONLY even a few % of their customer base buys the Highest NAND Flash model, it will affect/improve their Reported Gross Margin across the entire line, which I'm sure is their goal (with offering it).

Fail apple will not abandon the notch after a redesign. No way.
I completely agree. I think Apple considers the notch, like the chin on the iMac, distinctly Apple. It doesn’t matter how many people complain, it is the only distinguishing factor between an iPhone and other phones without a notch. In other words, the notch is part of the brand. While I think they’ll get rid of it one day, I think it will be around another 2 or 3 years.
