Just buy the lightning USB connector to connect your external storage to your iphone. External storage problem solved. The adapter is about $30 i think.
Can you write directly to the external storage or do you need to write to the internal storage and then transfer it?

I prefer tiered storage for devices. A one size fits all approach creates wasteful expenditure for someone that doesn't need that much storage. Personally Apple Pro models base storage should be at 256GB. No need to offer a 128GB if the phone is considered "Pro".

In your case if everyone is happy with spending $1600 for a 1TB iPhone rather than $1100 for a 128GB you will have a majority of upset customers asking why Apple is charging $1600 for an iPhone. That's my perspective.

Apple's cost on the memory unit is ~$19 for the iPhone 12 Pro. By the end of the month, I'm sure there will be articles breaking down the cost of the 13 Pro.

If they focused on 1 or 2 large capacities, the additional volume should get the prices down quicker, too.

I have quite a lot of WD Passport drives that go USB Micro B* to USB A. I use a USB Micro B to USB C cable to hook them up directly to my iPad Pro via USB C .

Here are my questions…

Is there any way to hook up the above drive directly to iPhone via lightning? If so, can you access the drive in Files like on iPad Pro?

Finally, does the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter allow all this?

I think that Apple’s idea is that Pro photographers/videographers can have a quality camera on them no matter where they go. Is it as good as a standalone, professional camera? No, of course not. But it‘s better than nothing at all. For the rest of us the cameras are super nice point and shoot cameras Without having to carry a separate device with us.
I think that’s what I said.

It might be a good time to remind people you can link your MobileSync folder to an external drive. For those of us still backing up our devices to our local machines like cavemen, rather than to the cloud like beings of pure energy, these larger and larger storages consume more and more of the local drive. You can avoid that with some well placed links in the file system.

That they have marketed the newest iPhone as a cinema camera that you can shoot films on, but with only 1TB of storage and no external storage is a joke.
Or the could just ad a hdmi outbut, there are nany extrenal recirders arround, added bonus oeople can use the cidecs/containers rhay want and not only the ones apple decides on, allto if thsy adbkackmagic raw i think the'll ake a lot of prosomers realy happy, ( both on windows an osx) because it works realy well with Resolve which js a bit if an all in on powerhose fir editing grading vfx and audio ( a bit if a kearning curve tho and it certainly loves its highsoec hw)

If the rumors of 2022 bringing a 48MP camera, i can a 2TB option being viable. Especially if they allow Pro res video at 8K/24fps

I’ve already filled 910GB of my 1TB. 2TB would be very welcome!
Out of curiosity, is that all stuff that needs to be kept on the phone? Is it stuff that is frequently used/accessed? Or would backing it up to some network storage be sufficient?

For those who thought 128GB is pointless, remember the cost difference is exponential from 64 to 128, 256 and 512GB, 1TB and so on.

And yet desktops are still being sold with 256GB with massive upgrade pricing. K. Nobody who needs both a desktop and a phone needs more storage on their phone than their desktop. Nobody. I mean I guess there are external drives but I don’t understand this.

Apple won’t go to hole punch next year. After 5G and no notch there will literally be no reason to upgrade anymore and they know it. Sales will slow down like Samsung. Lick of paint here or there, fad or two here, nothing that’ll cause upgrade frenzy till 6G.

Apple will keep this small notch “design “ at least another two years, otherwise there is no point to change it this year

Can’t agree more. Phone innovation can only be done so much, outside of turning it into a smart low end DSLR.

Considering the 128GB 13 Pro can't do 4K ProRes I think 256GB for the Pros at least will be the base for the 14, should have been that this year on the Pros.

So drop the 128GB and have 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.
