I don't have a high opinion of Apple computers or iPads and have only bought them for my grandparents because they have struggled to learn how to use a proper computer.

How is a Mac not a 'proper computer'? I can understand not liking the hardware but that doesn't make it any less of a computer.

Ive been an apple fan boy for all my life. I remember buying my first Mac and thinking "this is the coolest thing ever." I have bought almost all of Apple's devices from the apple TV to the iMac. I upgrade my iPad every year and my phone as well. I actually was the first in line to get my iPhone at my local apple store. (waited 3 days in line) Anyways, my point is, I believe in apple, i love their products and was ecstatic when I pre ordered my watch. I got it on Launch Day and thought "wow, i don't even need my phone anymore" but i soon realized that it only does so much. My apple watch sits on my desk most of the time now and rarely use it. I love the apple pay feature and fitness app but thats about it... It seems like a hassle. My phone is easier to use. I'm still keeping it and hope it grows on me but i doubt it. Not here for hate, just sharing my opinion. Hope you all enjoy your device.

Btw i bought the SS Classic Buckle 42mm.:apple:

I respect your viewpoint and sympathize with your disenchantment. However:

  • "wow, i don't even need my phone anymore" - There was not even the smallest hint that the Watch would replace the iPhone. That you thought otherwise indicates a failure to perform due dilegence prior to purchase. Even a precursory investigation would have revealed this obvious truth. Did you do ANY research prior to placing an order?
  • You are a self-described fanboy. So am I. I've BEEN in those lines too. So I have a nitpick: It's "Apple", not "apple". It's the name of a multi-national tech company, not a fruit. You correctly capitalized iPhone, iPad and iMac, so perhaps you should take the tiny effort and properly capitalize Apple.

I am on the fourth day with my Apple Watch and I am also starting to see no point in keeping it. The reasons?
  • One of its primary functions should be notifications, but currently they suck big time for the Mail.app. I cannot get notifications for mail that automatically lands in subfolders. I must choose only one folder that will be shown and everything else is completely ignored. This is a deal breaker for me. I am not going to change the way I use Mail, just to be compatible with the Apple Watch! I organize my Emails in multiple folders and have rules to automatically move them as they come. Somebody could argue that this will be solved in a future update, but I have zero confidence in Apple rectifying this situation. Why? Just look at the iPhone's Mail.app. It has some smart mailboxes, for Unread and marked items, or VIP mails. These mailboxes apply only to the Inbox and not to all subfolders someone might have. This has been like that for years. I had sent feedback to Apple but I guess they don't really care since most people don't use advanced mail features. Any professional using Mail has subfolders and rules for automated processing of incoming mails. I guess I don't fit into Apple's target user group.
  • 3rd party apps: They are really slow. Loading apps, looking at Glances can be a very bad experience, so I don't see the point in that. Yes, I know, 3rd party native apps might come, but up until then I guess the Apple Watch 2 will be here..
  • Apart from the activity stuff which are pretty neat, I don't see anything else for me here. The Music remote control feature is nice, but not a killer app.
  • Hey Siri works 30% of the time. It's much easier to keep the digital crown pressed. It works all the time.

Where does it leave me at the end of the day? For my needs, the Apple Watch is a device that shows me the time, allows me to set a timer and alarms, view my next appointments, view the weather and monitor my activity levels. I must think if the above functionality is enough for me. I am really disappointed about the Mail notifications.

Thanks for letting me know Apple Computers are not Real, I have been wasting my time for the last 15 years using Apple Computers. I'll go ahead and sell my Mac and let all my friends know as well so they can also sell them. What a waste of 15 years :D

BUT I'm going to keep my iPad, iPhone & Apple Watch ;)

It's not for everybody. For one if you don't normally wear a watch on a daily basis, you will have a very hard time getting used to it.

Now there are few things to point out..
"wow, i don't even need my phone anymore" - that's totally not what the watch is supposed to do.

"My apple watch sits on my desk most of the time now and rarely use it" - You are totally not using it correctly. it's a watch. You are supposed to wear it all day to appreciate its usefulness.

Again it all comes to whether you normally wear a watch on a daily basis. It sounds like you don't.

I have to give an update, since I might have found a solution for my Mail subfolder problem.
I put my mail subfolders as favorites in the iPhone Mail.app. I am not sure if that's the key, but now I just got a mail that went to one subfolder and my Watch notified me about it! If this works consistently, then I will be happy again.
Mail notifications is my main reason of having an Apple Watch.

My 2 cents

I had the Pebble since initial release and grew to love having a smart watch. It allowed me to read texts and emails without the rude appearance of pulling out my phone on inopportune moments. Problem was -- text was small and couldn't read it without my glasses. I've now had the Apple watch for about a week and absolutely love it. I can read it without glasses, the text is clearer and Im even starting to use the activity monitor to increase my walking. The nightly charging is the same as I did with the Pebble and really doesn't bother me. The watch has a beautiful design and fits my needs perfectly. But then again, neither the Apple watch, nor for that fact, ANY smart watch is for everyone. Like any electronic device, it has an application that may or may not fit an individual's needs. I respect anyone who thinks the watch is useless to them; what I take great issue with are those who try to convince others who love the watch they they are wrong for feeling that way. Only time will tell if the investments of Apple & other manufacturers will pay off in wearable tech or they go my the "Betamax" wayside (I guess I'm dating myself). In any event, that's my 2 cents on the topic.

what annoys me the most is that most 3rd party apps are useless and you have to take out your phone anyway but that might be a restriction from apples side.

Snapchat for instant, u get a push on your watch but all it shows is "1 new snap" "1 new messages great... BUT WHAT IS IT?

That's Snapchat's fault, actually. They need to write an app/glance for the watch.

I don't think at this point you can absolutely make a decision without seeing what they're going to do with software revisions for the next year or two. It's the intro product. And it's a $600 toy. And that's fine with me , it does more than I thought it was going to do.... I will be keeping it and realize that it's a companion piece to the phone.
I just completed a two-week business trip and got to use it in all it's functions and was pleasantly surprised with everything except the Q scan at the airport. It just takes too long to center under the reader to get it to work... it's easier to hand them the paper boarding pass or the phone screen. Also I may be missing it, but why no Siri to respond to emails like the text?

What's wrong with my grammar?

It's a manner of speaking… I am referring to the logical grammar.

I fix ur grammer:

u iz welcome but your post still makes no sense.

"grammar of a comment?" u mean essence?
"other features" what other features?
" they are first and foremost those respective devices." what?

Not sure I can help you. I'll leave my comment to the judgment of the other readers.

I didn't get my Apple Watch yet, but I think some have unrealistic expectations.

The watch is not to replace the phone. It's to go along with it.

Agreed. When I ordered my watch, I knew it was to compliment my phone, not be a replacement by any means.
Of course I have unrealistic hopes that it'll become a phone-killer and I'll be able to basically have an Inspector Gadget/Batman phone on my wrist, but not with this generation of Apple Watch :)

I'm worried about the obsolescence factor of this product at this price. I don't know what the competition is selling for because I haven't kept up with it and a nice mechanical watch doesn't go out of style or suffer a logic board failure.

That's a good point. I think one has to go into this with the same attitude one has about the iPhone, for example. All the iPhones still work. It's a question of which are still supported and/or what the owner wants to do with them. At minumum, we know that iPhone 5 and newer are well-supported. And that's with a 1-year refresh cycle. Logic tells me to expect this model of the watch to be well-supported for at least 3 years, since it was released in 2015 and will span the 5, 5s, 6, and 6s product release years.

I also expect that the bands will work with the next generation of watches. Reinventing the lug system would be illogical for the first update and Apple has generally been known for keeping the same basic form factor for at least one update cycle before changing it.

Besides, keeping the shape keeps all the watches recognizable as Apple Watches and they need to establish visual recognition.

So, the watch will not be disposable. But, it's tech and nobody expects tech to be an heirloom, either.

Your expectations were wrong from the start.

To respond to the OP, the point of a watch is to tell the time. The point of a smart watch is to augment the watch experience with a few extra niceties/features. But it is first and foremost a watch to tell time, and a fashion accessory as such.

I was traveling internationally recently and put the thing in power reserve mode for the journey (California to Spain). It still felt great as a watch in that mode. For me, I have come to accept that all the smart watch stuff is gravy.

There is a hair of disappointment that it has not shown the world the path forward for wearables in the same way that the iPhone did for mobile devices, but at the end of the day, if you can accept it as a beautiful piece of jewelry, you will enjoy it more. Because that's all it is.

I can sit back and watch a YouTube video and such on the computer and glance at my wrist and start talking and boom text sent. Before I found myself pausing the video so I could type out the text as I couldn't pay attention to the video and type at the same time.

Not really following this. How can you dictate anything with another audio source playing in close proximity?

And how exactly to you pay attention to a video while you are actively formulating and speaking a message into the watch?

Hated it at first, now I can't live without it. For me it's the little things like activity tracking, having an actual watch for the first time in years, glances, weather on my wrist, etc.

It's a great device once you stop treating it like a mini iPhone.

It's the first thing I put on when i wake up, and it's on me until i go to sleep. Absolutely love it. I know people in my office always ask "How much was it?" i say about $420 with tax, and they say that's a good price.. And to me $400 or $350 depending on which model you bought is a pretty good price. The question i always ask people who are on the fence about it is: Would you rather have a $400 watch that just tells you time, or a $400 watch that tells you time and does almost everything your phone does?

The only downside is my bosses know I have one, and know that I'm receiving their calls or texts, so i can't play the 'I didn't have my phone on me' card.

Well I'm pretty much always using headphones so the audio doesn't mess up the watch. And I don't know for some reason I can just talk over the video and still pay attention, something I can't do while typing.

Mine hasn't left my wrist since I received it. To each their own.

Is it uncomfortable charging with it still on your wrist? :)

----------

Today will be my first day wearing the watch.
I am sure by the end of the day I will be scratching my head wondering if the money could have been better spent elsewhere.

It's interesting to hear all opinions and I appreciate the op posting his opinion. When such opinions are posted they tend to draw attention to features and functions that some may not be aware of. That's always good for everyone.

Enjoy, off to start day one with the watch and catch the Red Sox game.

i remember when i got the original iPad on launch day.
i got home and thought," what is the point? i have a Macbook pro, and i phone."
as time goes by, people who question the AW,( i am a true believer in it...calling dick tracy, calling dick tracy), will see it's utility as it evolves, and gets more stand alone functionality.
in the mean time, i enjoy it's features and utility, and as a watch lover since age 10, it will always be a cool watch to add to my collection.

:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

After a month with the Apple Watch I don't see the point.

I would agree with you but there was just this one instance where the utility of the watch made absolute sense.

I was on my terrace chilling under the clear night sky, cool breezes, listening to the trees & sound of animals, it became a serene moment & suddenly had a wish to capture this moment, by playing music & turned out rightly that I didn't have my iPhone on me (well it's not possible carrying a big ass phone such as 6 Plus all the time, think of it is technology getting in my way of chill time), but did have my watch & it occurred to me, hell I can INDEED use my watch to play MUSIC from my IPHONE sitting on FIRST FLOOR to the SPEAKER on my TERRACE (my house has three interconnected routers for each floor). No need to get the phone out of pocket & ruin your time, break the experience of what you considered your spiritual fulfilment with nature.

The utility in such an instance really CANT be overstated. I know now that future Apple Watch iterations will nail the software shortcomings & this thing will go from being pointless to virtually INDISPENSABLE.
