I don't see why the hate for BBM.

I use Whatsapp as my main messaging app and it's ok, I used to love my Blackberry back in the day, so yeah, I like the new BBM for iPhone.

I have been using BBM for 5 hours now and it's pretty cool, it has some cool features in "groups" that you can comment on a picture without affecting the chat conversation, add different chats in the same group..

If anything, Whatsapp will improve faster and better since BBM has some good different features, so yeah, in the end we win (the consumers).

Let the best app win.

Because unlike other services, just knowing your phone number or email is not enough to contact you, which is a good thing.

I guess that's fair. It would be nice if it could sync to those services though if you opt in. If I elect to be friends with you on Facebook, I'm probably ok with you contacting me via BBM.

Wait, it is NOT usable on an iPad mini WITHOUT cellular? If it is not using cellular then why does it require it? Useless for me, I thought maybe I would switch from Line to this but nope, totally useless.

EDIT :
Requires iOS 6.0 or later.
Compatible with :
- iPhone
- iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G
- iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (3rd generation)
- iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (4th generation)
- iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular.

Yes, you HAVE to have cellular to use the app. That means you can't use it on your iPad when at home. No thanks, I'm done.

I think Apple's stubborness in this regard will one day haunt them.

I used think so, too. I don't think that any more.

What iMessage achieves is free instant text and media messaging between everybody who owns an iOS device or a Mac. Apple don't want to build it as a separate product or brand; that's why there is no dedicated 'iMessage' app (even on OSX, it's just called 'Messages' even though 90% of people probably use it exclusively for iMessage).

Outsiders seem to really want Apple to build high-profile brands around their services; like Gmail or BBM. Apple sees services very differently, though - they see them as a way to add functionality to their devices.

I could see Apple one day creating a web version of iMessage, aimed at Mac owners who don't have access to their device because they're at a public computer. They won't release native Android or Windows clients, though.

Why would one instal BB messenger when there is Whatsapp & Viber available across all platforms. Will BBM generate any revenue or will it delay the downfall of Blackberry?

After the initial euporia dies down, it is highly unlikely that BBM will see many iOS users operating it.

I don't like the way WHATSAPP look. Very unappealing.

I was talking about the interface. And the icon is pretty slick too, IMO. Functionality wise, it's been working fine so far. What did you not like about the app?

It's extremely buggy and slow... Key taps don't register, crashed a few times, etc.

I really thought and hoped BBM would kill a few messaging apps out there... But, it turned out it doesn't hold a candle to most and is just one of the crowd...

Also adding the BBM code feels so old fashioned right now... I just have five contacts because we are techies and used to love BBM once upon a time AND we meet up everyday for a drink or two... And 2 of them still haven't upgraded from their old bb phones... A lot of my contacts might have bb phones or BBM downloaded, but, I'm not gonna message each and every one of them to ask them their codes and then add them and then wait for their approval... Sounds too cumbersome now... ##

That sounds like a bit of an overstatement.... if asked to name the embarrassing elements of the nation of Canada, RIM makes the list? What have they done that's embarrassing? Not keep up with Apple? Who has?

what have they done? not necessary the company but the top management.

they should have seen what was coming and adapted and innovated or atleast followed more closely of the growing trends, such as the introuction of android, the sucessfulness of app stores and improving hardware/specs in their devices.

but no blackberry did nothing and lagged behind year after year.

the once dominated smartphone on the planet is now wispering away.

so YEs it is an embarasment to Canada to have such a company

What phone are you using? On my iPhone 5, it is not slow at all. And i did not notice any crashes....yet!

But yea i agree that sending out BB pins does feel rather cumbersome, but i know a few people that still use BBM regularly. Atleast the app is optimized for iOS 7 :)

After the update today it's much better and smoother... Not a crash yet... But I still have just 5 contacts... ###

Why do people write things like "yawn" and "too late"?

This is WAY more innovative then anything Apple has done the last 24 months.

:apple:
