If your ATV isn't directly connnected to your receiver (like HDMI switch, HDMI to Toslink, etc.) then temporarily make an HDMI direct connection from ATV to Receiver. After set up you should be able to change back.

I was very dubious of this advice, but I tried it, and it worked!

Connecting the output of the AppleTV into my receiver and then from my receiver into the TV made it work, no training required.

Thanks very much.

done that, still only randomly works if I press the volume button repeatedly.
Be sure to read posts following your last entry. Especially #70. It lists steps and work arounds, if needed.

Everyone else posting since 9.2 update has now had success with Pioneer Receivers.

The trick is to plug the hdmi from the ATV into one of the inputs on the receiver and another hdmi from the out of the receiver into your screen.

Delete the custom IR remotes you've created and choose the option called something like Reciever via IR.

It should just work, no training required.

Also ensure that the firmware on the Siri remote is up to date (version 0x245).

"retrained the ATV" = NO

For most Pioneer Receivers, there is no training, learn remote, etc. It won't work.

Pioneer Receiver (Master) Code is now in Apple ATV. Just follow my instructions above your post. The ATV sets the code automagically when the Receiver is connected to the ATV via HDMI. MOST Pioneer Receivers will work this way, but no guarantee on all.

Thanks very much for helping get this untangled. The AppleCare people are quite clueless about it.

Hi.

I have Samsung tv, Apple tv 4 and Bose CineMate Gs series II.

Atv4 is with hdmi wired to Samsung tv. With this combination apple remote works (volumen +/-). Now, i have Bose wired true optical cabel to samsung tv. I can not make apple remote, to learn to do volumen +/- on Bose.. Works only with Samsung tv sound.

Can anybody help or give addvice? Thanks

Ok, now it goes! Update helps.

yay, finally got my Pioneer to work, did the HDMI connect and the remote worked.
So glad you kept trying. It took awhile to figure out what was causing some units from working.

It has been an excellent user experience this last week having the remote working properly.

Ok i suffered with an apple tv being able to detect but not properly learn my pioneer receiver for years.. YEARS! double remotes. driving my wife mad. I read another post somewhere and it solved it for me.

you must first plug your apple tv INTO your reciever (if it has hdmi throughput) dont forget to set your apple tv down to 1080p instead of 4k. THEN receiver via IR showed up on the learned remotes! then wire everything back the way you want it and it stays. and workS!!
