Looks like Engadget’s and CNET’s video shows the MagSafe Duo Charger. Perhaps released tomorrow?

I never understood the "want" for the mini. It seems way too small. I think the 6.1 Pro is the perfect Goldilocks phone. I have had the Plus/Max versions for several years, and decided to go down a tad this year. Glad I did. I'm loving mine!

But, I'm happy that those who have been asking for a smaller phone get to finally have one.
as some never understand the "want" for a larger phone. itʻs all personal preference...

You can still restore as long as it’s the same iOS 14/13/12 etc.
if the new phones come with 14.1, donʻt you have to update it to 14.2 before you can restore? i always have to install beta profile on the new phone and then do a restore from icloud since my icloud backups are w/the 14.2 beta

yeah, going to 12 mini from an 11pro max. had the 12 pro for a bit...was nice, but excited to have something smaller but still powerful. will wait for ipad mini update to get a larger screen device for media viewing...

Does anybody know if the Mini and Max will ship with 14.1 or 14.2 (which came out today)? I don't want to apply 14.2 if it's going to prevent me from restoring from backup out of the box, just don't want the extra hassle to set up the phone, download the update, and then wipe and restore.
The 14.2 ipsw is already there to download from now. You can just manually update on iTunes/Finder.

That doesn't explain *why*, and didn't tell anyone anything.

If you don't understand the want for larger phones, you aren't paying attention. I know the largest phone would be for media viewing, battery life and the best camera of the four.

I know the 6.1s because not too small, not too big. The Pro because of the cameras, LiDAR, materials - the non-pro because it's close to the Pro at a lower cost.

All those are preferences.

Like I said, I'm happy for those that wanted a smaller iPhone now get to have one. I just don't know why. I keep reading statements that they are excited to have a smaller phone again, but never really "why". I guess the only thing I see mostly is single-handed use. Do that many people have tiny hands? Idk. It's just curiosity.

Couldn’t you just use an iPad mini for media viewing and battery?
Single handed use is a big reason why and quite frankly, the size of the mini is more of a regular-sized phone, in my opinion.

Nobody complained when the original came out through the 5. It’s just easier to ask “why smaller” now because everyone got spoiled with phablets over these years. but for me personally, a phone is a phone and if I wanted something to watch media or bigger screen surfing, I’d use an iPad, which I do.

A phone is a mobile device and mobility (one hand use especially when on the go and multitasking) is a big enough reason for me.

For one, I don't have to wear baggy enough jeans to carry my phablet. One handed means easier to hold in crowded public transit. Contrary to popular belief, bigger is not better for handheld media. It's the discomfort of holding a heavy/large phone that puts people off. Most people still watch YouTube in non-fullscreen for the same reason -- easier to hold. Same but smaller camera, that's easier shoots. More discreet while traveling.

I have an X, and I seriously can't go any bigger. I have a Nexus 5X that's exactly dimensions of the new 6.1 inch models while being 30 grams lighter. And it was awfully discomforting sitting down with that thing in my jeans. It's almost as if "I don't want the 6.1" is a bigger issue for me than "I want the 5.4".

So Monday the embargo for these will be lifted and we will see the reviews
On the mini nothing new to say compared to the 12, only battery life, on the max also battery life and the camera

That's kind of shocking to me, as my experience has been totally different. If I'm viewing media, I almost always view fullscreen. I don't wear baggy pants, and all my phones have fit. I don't have large hands (I'm a small, Italian dude), and larger phones have been comfortable. Discreet while traveling sounds pervy (haha jk). And no phone has felt heavy. I'll take your word for public transit as I live in So Cal and we don't do public transit - unfortunately. I'd love to have it.

I appreciate your response. Answers my curiosity and broadens my understanding. Truly IDIC. I honestly wanted to understand how/why the "mini" folk are so excited as you all obviously are. Thanks!

If you have never understood, then the solution here would be to try and understand why someone would have preferences that vary from yours, perhaps ask people what they enjoy about that size or are looking forward to/expecting from the mini, and what they don’t like about the sizes you prefer

Edit: Just saw your Post above - thats exactly it. Cheers. Not trying to sound crass, apologies if my written words come across as such!

No worries! It's hard nowadays to ask questions, or challenge thought. So many want to argue and fight all the time, that when someone asks a genuine question, it's perceived as an attack. It has sadly become the norm. It was actually hard for me to post my question. I re-wrote it probably 5 times before posting because I didn't want to sound rude or anything. But in the end, my curiosity won out and I decided to "ask away!".

I honestly appreciate the replies so far. I've been wondering if it was a microcosm of Apple Fans that were wanting the small phone, or maybe something more. Something that the general public would be wanting. And one way to find out is to understand why. It will be very interesting to see how the sales of the mini do, and if the owners keep the phone, or trade them in. In the forums, I have seen a lot of people already thinking about trading in or selling their 12s to go mini or max. And we just got them a couple of weeks ago! It's crazy to me. But, different strokes, as they say.

People have voted with their wallets and most don’t want a phone that small. I have a XR and I able to use it with one hand without trouble most of the time. I’m glad Apple made the mini to address a small group of users, but I hope you are not insinuating that this is as big as a phone should be just to “guarantee” that everyone can use it with one hand.
While I agree that it was the people who drove the transition to the large phones of today, I think the iPhone 12 mini may be in a different situation. That transition happened years ago - the last mainstream small phone was the Sony XZ2 Compact from early 2018, and small phones had been dying off for years before that, arguably around the time of the iPhone 6 already. Screen/bezel ratios were much worse during that time.

The iPhone 12 mini on the hand offers a screen size that would have been quite large during the transition, but in a compact package. There were no such phones when people voted with their wallets, they had to accept huge phones to get larger screens. And when the manufacturers got serious about reducing bezels in the past 2-3 years, they kept the huge physical dimensions and put even more screen in. We will have to see what the people think of the mini; maybe compact phones would never have died if the iPhone 6 had been like the mini.

I sent back my 12 pro today, the bottom speaker was defective. The Apple stores in my area are not taking returns in store. I also returned 2 iPhone SE 2020's in the past month or so, they also had defective speakers. What the heck happened to 3D touch on any of the newer iPhones? Did they get sued for having that feature (Patent infringement?) For the price of these phones they should add simple things to their software, like little tweaks. I can't even click on my texts to go back to edit mistakes I've made in my texts. The displays on all the iPhones do not have good precision, and aren't sensitive enough. The bad quality control made me actually switch to a OnePlus 8T phone. I'll miss iMessages, but oh well. It has many features that I wish the iPhone 12 Pro Max would have had. I feel the iPhones are dated and Apple is just making quick profits and spitting out phones (I think they rushed their phones from the manufacturers this year too quickly). I have been an Apple user for many years and an iPhone user since iPhone 6. I feel like it takes Apple many years to catch up, then when they do, they call their "new" feature some fancy name. I just wanted an under display fingerprint sensor and 120hz screen, was that too much to ask? I got the OnePlus 8t 256gb 12gb ram for $470 used and it's great so far. The battery charges from 0 to 100% in 39 minutes with "Warp Charge 65", I mean that's insane, they took out wireless charging, it's slow on all phones anyways.

Depends if you simply want a small device or an actual mobile device. Being able to use a phone with one hand is practically a necessity for use on the go.

Go big or go home!
Can’t wait to order the Max later today.

as someone who usually types with two hands, the Mini is a no go for me. It’s already driving me mad texting from my old 6S. It’s funny how fast you get used to things

Hopefully with a launch day shipping success story for once in my life!

I can't take any review seriously unless they compare it to the X. That's the phone most people are upgrading from. If you can't take the time to show it compared to the X than you are just copy and I ignore you.

Would it help to know that some people want a phone that can be used one handed without stretching. For those of us on our phone all day having a phone that is easy to use is more important than seeing a slightly bigger youtuber? The X was to big. If it's bigger than the X than it's not easy to use.

Hmmm I was going to sell my 12 pro for the max. I’m used to large phones, but now that I have the pro for two weeks I think with a slim case it’s just right. Not sure I need that slight bump in camera. Ugh what to do? Probably wait and see what real reviewers say or wait to see it in person. I’m still shocked how much I like the pro, coming for XS Max. Just give me my leather case!! Ah ha!! I’ll be up in the morning for that for sure!!
camera, battery, screen size, ram. Am I missing something else? For 100$ more its a no brainer for me

My wallet tried to vote, but the Mini was just not available until now...
