I just noticed my air 2 has this issue. But now i also see a blue spot where the lcd typically causes waves, which is more aggravating. Whoever said apple QC hasnt gone down and thinks their display issues are rare needs to get off their high horse. This ipad is going for an exchange for sure.

What do you mean blue spot... permanently or only when you apply pressure? Can you take a picture/video?

Permanently. This is a low quality close up picture of it from my iphone. Even then its still noticeable. This is completely unacceptable.

Wow, and you think this comes due to pressure from the back? Is that the exact same spot that used to distort? Do you have an idea what you did that could have caused the pressure to create the blue color dot, e.g. carry it in a bag?

Its the exact spot that distorts so yea im gonna go with the two are related. I honestly have no idea how it happened. Just was in class and noticed this blue dot permanently after a few distortions.

NOTE: mine distorts just from pushing on it from the front. I have a case on it so there isnt much pressure on the back. Which makes this issue even more serious

Interesting. Makes you wonder is LCD screens are more sensitive to pressure from the front than from the back.

Wow, so this could be the first evidence that the distortion will in fact at one point or another cause long term damage! This is shocking and I really think Apple need to take responsibility for this defect and take actions to fix new units being produced and offer replacements for existing customers! A complete recall! It's not like Apple don't have enough money and it's not like it's not their fault!

Got my Air 2 last week from a relatively recent shipment (space grey, and only a few days before they hadn't had any space greys in stock).

I checked for the distortion with a little pressure on the right side and, like the floor models, it was there. I figured not a big deal since I wouldn't normally put that kind of pressure on that one spot during normal use. But, I bought the Smart Case and am finding that when I remove the iPad from the Smart Case, I'm seeing the distortion wherever I use my fingers to push up from the back, it can be on the left side, the top or the bottom. It's making me paranoid about the occasions when I want to take it out of the case. Is this happening to others as well?

Well, seeing how widespread the problem is and if damages occur already after such short period of time (seems that almost 100% of devices have this issue to some degree), Apple will have to do something. The can attempt to ignore the issue if it just causes distortions, but millions of customers will be affected if it causes permanent damages.

Can you take a picture/video of this occurring top and left side as well? Thus far, only seen it on the right side. Will take a video of mine when I get home later tonight.

we really need to see the original photo =) if you can, upload it to a net without any modification, no resizing...

Not that it was modified before..... but here are original pictures pulled straight from my iPhone 5S. Some further back shots to show you how obnoxious it is.

My air 2 does not exhibit this issue unless I press on the back HARD, it never happens when holding the iPad like I always do.

I've had three iPad Air 2 and the first two had this issue. It took no preassure att all, mearly holding them caused It. Both were 128gb with LTE. The third one does not have the issue at all and has an amazing screen, however it is a 128gb wifi only in Space gray.

Could this have anything to do with the LTE components? Too much stuff crammed into a very thin chassis?

Mine is a 64g silver LTE and it does not do it either. It's just like wilycoder mentioned above.

Well, as we have already determined, it's a hit and miss thing, where all iPads Air 2s have it to some varying degree, some more some less. But it looks like a good chunk of them (50%+?) has it bad, where it shows up just holding it or by light pressure. Mine has it bad too, light pressure on the back will make the distortions show up.

I don't mind the distortions, since they don't happen during normal use for me. But unsure what the long-term implications will be. My plan right now is to monitor it, and should I see permanent damage or should Apple fix it, I will try to get it swapped out at the Apple store.

Yea, I would return it if convenient to an apple store and try the new one before I left. No need in living with it when we know some don't do it.

Ok, I think I know what happened to yours. If I put light pressure on mine and hold the pressure, then I also see the blue spot. What probably happened to yours is that it got bent a little bit, and the pressure on the screen is constant now, that's why you see the blue spot.

It's a very disconcerting how little pressure it needs in mine to make the blue spot appear constantly. I can see how this very easily becomes something permanent when the iPad gets thrown around and pushed, let's say in a back pack, even with a case on. I will definitely use that to get it exchanged in the Apple store in some months, when they have hopefully addressed the issue. I don't want to go back to BestBuy and return mine again (I had one with less distortion before, but that one had a book spine shadow so I exchanged it), since first of all it's not Best Buy's fault, also the next one I get may not be any better or even worse, and also I don't want to get blacklisted by Best Buy for future returns. The best strategy is probably now to see for a few months how the whole thing develops.

After having read the things about the screen distortion I went to an electronics store yesterday to try out the Air 2.

Within the first two seconds of holding the device, I was able to create the issue. I guess it was just Apple's call to squeeze the internals so much.

I tried to hold the Air 2 in portrait with my right hand. Not sure if it would happen in practice, but the screen did distort with one handed use.

I had the problem on the Wi-Fi as well as the cellular version of the iPad Air 2. I called Apple and the person said “this was the first time he had ever heard of this”. Honestly, I found that hard to believe. The Apple representative told me that he would call me back as soon as he consulted his supervisor. He called me back and said that they are aware of the problem, but not all units have the problem. The phone call ended in a polite apology.

I purchased an air 2 64GB LTE in space grey in store today. After reading about the issues on here I checked out the model in store, the first one had it bad and the Apple staff member apologised and said she'd never seen it before. The second box had it just as bad, so we tried the display models. Most of these were fine (happened if you pressed hard, but not under normal use). We tried one more box and this one is fine, happens if you press hard but not when just lightly bouncing it in your right hand (as if you were walking around with it).

So definitely some bads one out there, but also some ones which are ok. Glad I checked in store!

My screen doesn't distort at all and I just find it weird that I haven't noticed this issue...I even tried pressing it...guess I'm lucky and I have the gold tmobile 64 gb version

I replaced my iPad 3 times. I agree with your finding. The iPad air 2 is VERY VERY fragile. On my second replacement all I did was reinstall/transfer my screen protector and boom blue spot. On my third replacement I was careful to not apply much pressure while removing the bubbles and so far so good. Long story short, the air 2 is paper thin and just about as durable too.

Apple employees always say this. I don't believe it for a second!

He called me back and said that they are aware of the problem, but not all units have the problem.

So they are aware of the "problem" yet have no plans to recall and replace units with updated and fixed units... This company is so greedy honestly it really upsets me!
