iPad Air 2 Screen distoring when holding.

Apple employees always say this. I don't believe it for a second!

So they are aware of the "problem" yet have no plans to recall and replace units with updated and fixed units... This company is so greedy honestly it really upsets me!

Yeah no way is it the 1st time they heard of this. I exchanged 2 ipads to find 1 that does it "less".

I got the 16 gb wifi version today. It seems fine in normal use, but just a bit more pressure on the back while holding it does distort the screen. That said, my Galaxy Note 10.1 shows the same behavior. So I'm not as concerned about the screen problem as much I am that the iPad froze and needed a reboot.

went to hold the demo wifi unit, some units appear to display such a spot while holding but personally my own 128GB LTE space gray does not display such an issue when holding.

I don't know... how widespread this problem is, I only see two possible outcomes: it's not really an issue and Apple can successfully ignore it until it fades away. Or a large number of items will end up permanently damaged, and Apple will have to act by itself or due to class action lawsuit.

Considering that one guy already had permanent damage here, not sure if the second scenario is that unlikely.

I decided to repurchase my iPad Air 2. I opened it in store and was walking away while using it when it distorted just by walking like that video earlier in this thread!

I'm not joking it was just like that video. I turned around right there and showed it to the Apple store employee. She had another employee go check the display model and he said "It does the same thing." That's when I just thought "forget it," I returned it and left. I'll use my iPad 3 another year.

Interestingly, the first Air 2 I had didn't have this issue. So much variation....

The ones in my store admitted it.

I fully suspected the exact same scenario for my own experience! Which is why I completely dismissed the iPad Air 2 release and decided to stick with my 3rd gen until Apple release a defect free device, which may be a while at this rate, if at all... At this point I'm starting to worry about all the money I've invested in the Apple ecosystem :-/

Do all iPad Air 2 units have the screen distortion problem? It sure seems like it with all the display units at the Apple Store – WiFi or cellular.

No. The first one I had never exhibited the issue, the second did it just by holding it. There should not be this much variation.

In the Apple Store, ALL the display models exhibited distortion in the lower right. I found variation of sensitivity to the right of the Apple logo on the back – some distorted easily and some did not.

That's a pretty good observation. I also noticed that on the lower right edge, they pretty much all distort the same. But it seems about 50% distort easily next to the Apple logo, and the other 50% are somewhat less sensitive in that spot.

Mine distort easily next to the logo, but the previous one I had didn't. I am still on the fence how much of an issue it really is. Over the last week or so, I had almost forgotten about the issue. The distortion doesn't really show up during normal use, only when I intentionally push on the spot. Still waiting for more reports whether this is causing permanent damage or not. A user here reported on a permanent blue spot at the distortion location, but he hasn't updated us yet what Apple said about his issue.

Exactly right. I sent back 2 ipad a2 because they did it VERY easy (just lifting) my 3rd ipad does it but much less. All units at my 2 local stores do it.

Wow! tiday i tried two units in store - screen distortion while touching glass!!! no pressure applied, just typing like movement on glass - right side of display. How could THIS get through internal testing?! Lame apple, this simply is faulty product, cant understand sb apologizing this. Just wow!

It really does fluctuate from device to device which is weird. The display ,odel I tired at Best Buy a few weeks ago didn't have much of this screen distortion but it vibrated like a Mexican jumping bean with any appreciable volume level. I type while music is ON and I dont care for head phones so that alone killed the deal for me.

Other people report minimal vibrations but if you even look at the device the wrong way it shows that LCD distortion issue.

The quality diffences from unit to unit are not what I'd expect from Apple. Still love their tablets and my Air has been great but I expect it's more of a dice roll now as tow there you get one with issues or without. That's somewhat disappointing.

What model do you guys have, my T-Mobile lte 64 gb gold model does not distort at all..even in the various cases I use......

I actually contemplated to give the Air 2 a second chance yesterday at my local Apple Store. I quashed the idea after touching all of the display models – WiFi as well as cellular – all of which easily distorted by the two main areas in the back of the units.

and this is killing me, I am in market for ipad (bigger one) - I would gladly buy ipad air 2 (2 GB ram, laminated screen, thinner, great CPU and GPU) but that distortion think is crazy.. I can imagine that even sound vibration is acceptable (hardly, but it is), but this image distortion, just while touching glass.. meh... so I will probably buy one year old tech:(

It's just their goto answer to any complaint. Back with the Air 1 I had the yellow spludge on the screen, I took several back before getting a refund and was told each time that it was the first time they'd heard of it. The funny thing was I was directed to a line to get a refund and the two people in front of me were getting a refund for the same reason and had been directed there by the same guy. I give Apple credit for their returns policy but their staff do like to pee down your neck and tell you it's raining, even if they do so in a very polite way.

After having the iPad for two weeks I actually noticed the distortion. But it only appears if I press exactly the right spot and with some force. It never happens during the normal usage of the device, so it's not that much of a problem for me.

You would think that Apple must incur costs taking these units back so often. It seems fairly rampant too with many people exchanging them for various reasons. What I'm getting at is wouldn't it end up possibly cheaper in the long run to just do better product testing ahead of time? Sure, I'm a software quality engineer by trade so my opinions are jaded. Even so, it would seem that this screen issue and vibration issue should have been caught way back.

Both could have been fixed prior to launch and then there would have been WAY fewer returns and less complaints. Oh well.

I completely agree.
