I don't know if screen shots count, but this is at 50% brightness.

Here's a pic taken with my phone. The screen shots are a much better representation of what the screen looks like. 100% brightness in a dark room.

EDIT!!! That pic looks NOTHING like my screen. Forget judging them from cell phone pics, because that looks like a moldy old towel....LOL! If my screen looked anything like that, it would have been returned immediately, so for the folks using this thread to decide on buying, ignore photos like the one in this post. Trust me! ;)

Screenshots do not work. There's is no such thing as 50% brightness in a screenshot. Or 100% brighness. Screenshots are all he same. A screenshot is an image of the software, made by software, not of the hardware (the screen).

Your phone pic seems to show a reasonably even colored screen with minor falloff. Maybe a tad darkish/warm in the upper left.

You're doing it wrong. Do not screen shot it. Basically you capture the page, not the display itself.

After reading this thread, now my brain decided the left side is indeed slightly yellowish. Very hard to notice. Probably only noticed if you're told so. Anyway I went to Apple store today to compare and I did see a model with split keyboard having even white color. Some has left side warmer. I ordered a new one to see. Not too unhappy with my current one but if I can get a perfect one then it'd be nice.

Looks good :D

Went to the Apple store today and after comparing all of the display models I'm beginning to think the left side shadow bar effect is normal. Perhaps a side effect of Apple moving to one backlight bar. The intensity of the issue tends to vary from unit to unit though.

I think this is true. It's all about compromise. If we want a thinner device with the same battery life there are compromises. For most people, they'll never notice this.

For a company who demands perfection in their devices, compromises are unacceptable. What would Steve to say about this? :(

Has anyone tried the "fix" of putting the iPad in a drawer, with 100% brightness, while viewing an all white image yet? I've seen something about it in the past, but I'm unsure of the results.

I'm in the same boat, would love a better screen thats a little less yellow, but mine looks like yours, and I have seen way worse. Also the yellow may get slightly less over time, not completely but somewhat less....especially if its the phosphor that turns the blue LED's produce white light.

Question, is that picture at full brightness? At full brightness on mine the yellow just about disappears.

The picture was taken with an iPhone 5S at full brightness in a dark room. The contrast and color might be a bit off due to the camera. It's hard to notice the yellow tint at full brightness but I usually use the iPad at about 30% brightness and the tint becomes much more noticeable.

I'm very happy with mine it's warm has rich colors and deep blacks, oh and a screen full of oily fingertips :D lol

Looking through this thread I believe that they all have a degree of yellow on the left hand side. Even those posting 'perfect' screens seem to have it. Maybe it is an inherent 'feature'........either that or I have a faulty left eye :)

Every morning the yellow side of the screen really stands out to me. As i use it throughout the day, it starts to fade or i get used to it. By the end of the day its hardly noticeable.

Looked at it again this morning, yellow…

So we re not Alone in the darkness of disappointment. I've got the same display issue on iPad Air.. First on a 64 gig , then had it replaced with a 128 and still the dreaded book spine and yellowish tint on the left hand side.
Serial DMPLJ bought in France, Europe.

Apple isn't reachable on the phone right now..
That glitch we must not tolerate and we should get Apple to fix it. Given the price we pay for retina display this is not acceptable.
Must be linked with IGZO new tech.

It isn't that they compromise because they want to, but physics gets the better of them. They can have two backlight bars and have the same battery life, heat management, or thickness. It is physically impossible with the current technology. Would you want two backlight bars to get rid of the small shadow effect at the cost of four hours of battery life?

I think I'm just going to rollover on this one. Accept the dodgy screen and try to learn my lesson for next time........don't get excited about new Apple products and purchase on quality rather than brand.

Apple may be good with returns/replacements but it's not surprising, they get plenty of practice :)

As someone else mentioned previously, this screen issue occurs with every product they release, just look at the MacBook Pro section now.

I don't think these issues get resolved further in to production runs either, it seems it's a lottery on all products throughout their shelf life.

I would put myself in the somewhat fussy category but I think I could more comfortably accept mediocrity on a cheaper device.

Oh well :)

Probably get flamed now #

So is the iPad Air lit from the right side looking at the device in portrait mode??

Are you serious about the screenshot comment?

lol.

Try to think this one through...

And if you don't understand why you have discredited yourself, think harder.

This is my 128gb wifi + cellular, max brightness taken with an iPhone 5s. I think it is decent.

I post this only to illustrate a point that the left hand shadow bar is a normal thing now. People won't notice it day to day, but it does exist.
