Does anyone else feel that text itself is slightly warped/bent in the shadow area? It's almost as if they used a pressing machine (I know they didn't, but just to illustrate what is going on) and that machine was miscalibrated and pressed the left side a little too hard.

I guess a similar effect would be on a natural book page, wherein the text bends because of the bend in the page near the binding in the middle. Not as dramatic as a real book, but it looks that way on my ipad.

Or it could just be an illusion caused by the shadow.

There is a gradient on the left side edge if that is what you mean.

No bending as far as i can tell. But the shadowing certainly looks like a book binding effect.

What do you guys think about my iPad Air screen? Top side looks like a bit 'blueish', while the bottom is warm colored.

Should I return it to Apple?

Oh that's a gorgeous looking display? Don't ! Don't change it, Apple displays tend to be on the blueish tint side . I personally prefer the blueish hue over the more warmer displays

Also having this issue. Rang Apple and one of their Dublin employees spoke to me. He wasn't aware of the issue but I pointed him towards this thread and also the one on the official Apple community.

He said that it's definitely a hardware issue and the item needs replaced. I asked what happens if the replacement has the same issue, can I still get that replaced? He said yes, no problem.

Are you serious about the screenshot comment?

lol.

Try to think this one through...

And if you don't understand why you have discredited yourself, think harder.

The screen shot looks MUCH closer to what I'm seeing than the cell phone picture. Only an absolute idiot would keep a tablet that looks as mottled and uneven as that, so I don't think I've discredited myself. I do think that some of these pics have to be viewed with a large grain of salt, and that's precisely why I did not edit out my cell phone pic.

The screen shots looked so close to what I see on the tablet, I spent a few seconds trying to pinch them closed. While I'm sure most posters in this thread are sincere, I demonstrated to myself last night that a camera can be very misleading.

Were you viewing the screenshot on the iPad Air?
Seriously, screenshots prove nothing. The defect is with the part that takes this signal and converts it to light for your eyes to see. That part is the screen. Taking a screenshot in no way captures the issues of the screen.

Also, the reason the picture taken via camera looks bad is because of the exposure compensation the camera is doing automatically. You're pointing it at a bright light source (all white too), so the camera is reducing its aperture (like the iris on your eye) to take in less light. In doing so, variations in light are much more apparent as you saw.

Fine. Given the apparent disparity in brightness and color between the bottom left corner and the rest of the screen, I would have returned it. But cameras are less forgiving than our eyes.

I tend to find it comes across less in pictures. If it's that noticeable to us I'd almost certainly be unsatusfied with it in person.

Psynnott,
Right. So neither is truly representative of what I'm seeing, but the screen shot is miles ahead. I'm sure most of us have taken a pic of a tv screen, and they generally look like a work of modern art.....at best. I have a much better camera, and if I get bored later, I'll take a pic. Some of the last photos in this thread look pretty good, so it can be done.

I know what I see on my display, and it's good. Slighty warm too one side, but my rMBP is warm on the bottom, and pink up top. Never noticed until yesterday, and in relation to this thread. :D

Quite true. I helped prove to myself there was an issue by taking a screenshot and looking on my computer and it was wildly different (better) than the image the iPad was showing me.

My wife just informed me that she left my camera with a colleague at a convention over the weekend....WTH??? So I took another pic with another cell phone. This looks closer to what I'm seeing than the other cell phone shot.

As far as cameras revealing defects, we should be looking at these devices with the unaided eye. I can wear polarized lenses, and get a much different view. Same with using any sort of scientific optical filter. Unless we're testing screens at the manufacturing level, it seems kind of unnecessary to find defects that we normally wouldn't see. ;)

EDIT: Click on the thumbnail to view the pic full screen, and don't assume which side is left or right. ;)

Agreed - I'm not going out of my way to find problems but I see yellow fading to blue on mine when simply reading. Distracting!

Nooooooooooooo! I had issues with my iPad 3 where I had to go through 10 before I got a decent one! I was basically on first name terms with the courier guys they were around so much! I skipped the iPad 4 hoping that Apple would sort this all out, but it's back again and I really don't want to go through all that time wasting! I'd skip this generation if I could too, but need one for studying... Just hope it's sorted out in the next couple of months for when I'm looking to purchase...

Yellowing on the left? I can see it quite easily.

Ordered a third one. Best screen uniformity yet. It's got a slightly darker stripe on the left but the tint is very uniform in comparison to my other two Airs.
The catch: 4 or 5 large dust particels underneath the cover glass, two directly in the middle of the screen and easily visible from a normal viewing distance.

Is it a keeper? Apart from having a dark strip along the left frame I also have 2 specks of dust stuck under my panel, although they are not distractive under normal use.

This thread is comedy, no offence meant. We are talking about the most expensive tablet available and are wondering which blatant flaw to accept!

How can I know if my iPad air display is good or is too yellow or uneven? Where can I find a full white screen without elements?

Does an email look fine? If it does, I would suggest you skip looking for flaws. You can find a flaw in most anything if you look hard enough, and then life sucks. ;)

P.S. This page is mostly white, so if it looks fine, you're good.

Here's a pic taken with my phone. The screen shots are a much better representation of what the screen looks like. 100% brightness in a dark room.

EDIT!!! That pic looks NOTHING like my screen. Forget judging them from cell phone pics, because that looks like a moldy old towel....LOL! If my screen looked anything like that, it would have been returned immediately, so for the folks using this thread to decide on buying, ignore photos like the one in this post. Trust me! ;)

this is hilarious. using screenshots to measure visual screen quality LOL
