I exchanged mine because the bottom was pinkish. The replacement has the slightly warmish yellow on the left side.

I think this time I'm going to buy a 3rd and keep the better of the 2 and just live with it.

It definitely bothers me, but I'm not going to exchange a million times though. if the odds are that I'll get one that's the same or worse I just won't bother.

Having a hard time...

I have exchanged a whole bunch of Airs already. I have a 128GB model, and I expected a perfect screen. Every single one has this yellow tint. I can't stand this.

I'm such an Apple fanboy, but I've never been so frusterated. I just wanted my Air to work properly, was that too much to ask? I've been dissapointed again and again with this faulty product.

Is there a way to get rid of this problem!? I miss my iPad 2 - I didn't have a single issue like this with it! Ugh.

iPad 2 was notorious for screen bleeding issues, quite amazing that you managed to get a good one, or like most on this thread, didn't bother.
My three iPad Airs had massive light leakage around the edges, but otherwise perfect in colour - no "yellowing", no grey "book spine" effect, just perfect paper white, uniform screen, but with massive bleeding...
Returned the last replacement for refund yesterday and will wait and see for now...

I just tested my Air and it does exhibit the image retention issue that the Mini Retina has been plagued with.

I figured it would be a non-issue since my Mini Retina was just fine but the Air failed the test miserably.

This was just after 5 minutes of sitting. Is this a common issue?

iPad Airs do not suffer from that issue, it is "exclusive" to riPad mini.
BTW; Have you tested for light leaking though..? You'll have one for sure ;)

Seriously! It should be fun. It's not. Since 2008...

2008 -2011 - iMac 08 needed new screen due to severe ghosting and new graphics card within 3 years warranty.
2009 - MBP came with about 6 stuck pixels near centre of screen. Screen replaced on the spot with perfect screen.
2009 - iphone 3G screen sloped to one side. Replaced.
2010 - ipad 1 - perfect
2011 - ipad 2 tint to one side. Replaced.
2011 - ip4s replaced due to button malfunction.
2012 - ipad 3 returned due to the most horrible yellow screen I've ever seen. money back, piissed off.
2013 - Imac 27, great out of box.
2013 - ip5s, great out of box.
2013 - rMBP replaced due to dirty yellow tint to left side of screen and blotches.
2013 - Air replaced twice due to dirty yellow left side tint. Waiting for 3rd unit (comes tomorrow)

I'm glad I won't be in the market for a mac computer for another 4 years and iPad and phone for at least two. I don't think my nerves can take anymore!

None of Apple's quality control issues are new. i can go back to 1994 and list design/manufacturing issues/defects with every single laptop introduced by Apple since then. The one thing that makes me keep coming back despite all the issues is that Apple has always tried hard to make it right for me - I trust them more than any other company to continue to provide good service. And, when I do finally get one without obvious flaws it usually is really great.

This is exactly what I was worried about. There seems to be only two options - live with it, or return it. Sad.

Lol... Idk what you guys are talking about. My screen looks fine.

Mine looks fine too. the only problem with my ipad air is that there's extra tiny piece of silicone out of my screen, but I didn't worry about that. I don't think it's a big issue. I'm in love with my ipad :D

Well I returned my ipad today and played the Ipad Air lottery and thankfully I got one thats Ok. The screen isn't perfect and it runs a little warm but at least it's the same colour over the entire screen.

mind sharing the first four serial #'s?:D

also I'm assuming you exchanged at an apple store (more likely to have more inventory)

Exchanged at the local best buy. I hate dealing with the Apple Store employees .
Serial # starts with DMPLL

I'm sure you can. I was just pointing out that since 2008 I've had constant problems and if you see my sig you'll find I have owned quite a few Apple computers prior and not one of them had a problem in their entire life span. Not one. All perfect. None of my friends with Apple products prior to the iPhone ever had problems with their computers... well software problems OS 8/9 was somewhat frustrating at times, but overall the hardware was always top notch... for me and my mates. I guess my luck just plain ran out...

BUT, I agree with you re the fact that Apple usually has great Customer support and the fact that when it good, it's bluddy great.

It feels like all our excitement of having the device evaporates, replaced with relief that the screen is OK. It's like an ordeal. Buying shouldn't be like this. We are giving Apple our Money. It's crazy! If my 2nd replacement (that arrives today) isn't OK, I will be mightily not Okay.

At least you have jumped off the return carousel. I envy you!

You guys are going to think I'm crazy, but the yellow tint on the left side of my ipad is getting smaller. It seems like the yellow is fading from the edges. Maybe it is something drying. Who knows.

The very slight tint my Air had on the left hand side is nearly gone as well. I left my Air on day and night for the longest time, using it to stream music via Bluetooth at night. Once I did begin to turn the device off occasionally, the yellow tint would disappear as soon as the screen was turned back on. It's to the point that I don't know left from right side now. I use my Air in landscape mode 99% of the time, so the yellow to blue transition was noticeable before when scrolling a page up and down (or left to right if you want to view it that way).

i just exchanged for a space gray this time, and it was noticeable before i saw the hello. Even worse than the original DMPLJ, this one is DMPLN:(

Hi, I purchased an ipad in early November from John Lewis uk and it had a yellow tint on the screen unfortunately. I went to the local john Lewis store for a replacement a few days later and when I got home I found out its screen is worse than the first one I returned, dimmer and larger area affected.
I never really ask for a replacement before for anything. I just wonder if I am allowed to check the item I'm offered in store (open safari with keyboard to check if there is any problem with the screen) before taking it home. The nearest john lewis store is more than 1 hour away and I do not want to play this swapping game anymore. Thanks.

Or shall I wait for the 2nd batch of iPads Air and get a replacement then?

I have bought 64GB Wifi originally but it had a yellow tint, on the left hand side, it was very visible.

I have returned it and for extra £80 I bought the 128GB version.

The new one has a yellow tint, in the left hand side as well but less noticeable than the 64GB version.

I guess it's all right so I'm keeping it.

Had a same problems with my macbook retina. Now haveing second replacement of the screen, along with the logic board due to yellow/blue tint.....

There is something weird going on with all those retina displays.....

It turns out that we are paying big bucks for our Apple gear, and having more troubles than an average PC user buying £300 laptop or an cheap android tablet.....

I agree. When I got my replacement Air on 7th Nov, the yellowing was quite noticeable. I left it on full brightness on a completely blank white screen overnight several times and the yellowing got better.

Recently, I've only just been able to see the yellow on the keyboard (however not on the "old school" keyboard some apps still use). I often would close my eyes, spin the Air around and open my eyes to see if I notice the yellow side. Now I can't.

Have you considered getting a hobby?:p

I just got my 3rd unit. Each time they are getting better, but still the left side has the dirty blackish bar down the edge and a slight yellow tint.

Compared to my first one, it's so much better, but I just feel like I'm being cheated. My feeling of Apple's reputation is now lower than it's ever been. Especially after the trouble I've had with Apple support on the phone.

Do you guys think this warrants a replacement? The yellow tint on the left is annoying only when I'm thinking about it being annoying :p but I have the feeling that if I get another one it'll have some other issue.

SORRY, I don't think so. It looked awful to me.
But it's up to you, if you don't mind, just leave it alone.

if you really cares a lot, split the keyboard(white color) and observe the colors.

No, you are just getting used to it.
I thought the same before, but I felt the yellowish when I reading books, and my camera proved the eye-cheating thing...

I'm very frustrated. Purchased a 64GB AT&T iPad Air day 1 and keep having to exchange it. I tried different Apple Stores to see if I could get different batches, but nothing helped. Here's the history.

1. Had faint black shadowy lines running horizontal across the screen and had a big black speck of dust behind the glass.

2. Had faint black shadowy lines running across the screen, screen yellowing, and a loose sleep/wake button

3. Had vertical shadow on the left side, screen yellowing, dead pixel, and a faint black shadow slash line in the screen running horizontally.

4. Had vertical shadow on the left side, lighter (but noticeable) screen yellowing, and a dead pixel.

I just returned my last one last night. I kept it for a week or so. I trying to ignore the vertical shadow and the yellowing, but it drove me crazy. When I found a dead pixel, that was the last straw. I'm going to give it a few weeks and possibly try out a rMini. I was at the Apple Store last night and found the color gamut not nearly as distracting as the display issues on the Air. It's too bad because I think I prefer the screen size on the Air.

Man, that's gotta suck. I was lucky, my second air had a great screen, pure luck i guess.

Btw, how did you notice a dead pixel? I'm just wondering if there's a certain way to make it easier to notice or is it very obvious?

Thanks.
