Well if you actually read this thread, or any thread regarding screen issues and Apple devices, you would know that serial numbers guarantee nothing.

I don't know when people are going to let this fallacy die.

Yep. You either get a good screen or your get unlucky and get one with faults. The numbers mean nothing. My first one had a supposedly "good" serial number and it was yellow tinted on the left. Blue on the right.

I'm on my second iPad Air. In addition to the slight yellow tinge, my first unit had a pale horizontal line (appeared backlight related, not pixels) running right across the screen in portrait mode about 2/3 of the way down.

Opened a replacement in-store and it also had a line, in a slightly different place (as well as slightly more pronounced yellow tinge on left hand side). Waiting till the next batch arrives at my retailer before attempting another replacement – feel like I can get used to the colour uniformity but the line is very visible against white backgrounds and is a deal breaker for me.

Regarding the yellowing, to my eye it looks like the iPad Air has a very narrow viewing angle. My iPhone 5 actually does the same thing – yellow tinge when the screen is not being viewed 100% directly. I think the size of the iPad Air screen accentuates this effect and makes it impossible to view 100% of the screen at the right angle at any one time. Just my 2c worth from looking at a bunch of them.

That's been my experience, with a sometimes slightly yellow tint on the left side of my Air. Also, I noticed my wife's Air had a much more blue tint to the screen than mine, but later that night, my screen had the blue tint! I had to look at the settings to make sure I hadn't mixed up the tablets. This morning, they were both slightly blue overall. Our screen tints have been a moving target, so we're just enjoying them. ;)

This is spot on. I experienced the same effect with the ipad 3, but somehow not on the 4. Less so on my phone, due to the size. Same with the mini.

It's almost like looking thru frosted or micro prismatic glass, or at one of those old school 3D children's books where the image shifts and changes as you move your head.

I really thought you guys were just over sensitive, and over analyzing your iPads.... Then i got my Air and turned it on.. black shadow alongside the left part of the screen. everything located in that area becomes fuzzy and unclear.

Now, I'm not a picky guy, I tried to convince myself to just accept it, but at the price I paid I just cannot do that. I got the 128gb LTE version in white.

my iPad 4's screen puts the Air to shame when side by side.

It's going back to the store today, i'm going to exchange it for another one. Hopefully next production batch is better.

Wow that has got to be the worst I've seen on this thread! Did you increase saturation on the picture or something? Definitely going back!

No, I didn't.
Around 40% contrast, it is too obvious, and rotate the screen -- I want throw it away...

Anyway. They send that air away, I need to wait 7~15 days.
We will see.:)

Why can't everyone just enjoy their devices...:(

I tried!
But it bothers me so much when I reading books(white under).
And this iPad is mainly used for reading.

Heh i have an lg if we're going by serial J week also from target. My yellow tint is on the left. And here i thought ql would guarantee a perfect display.

Lol i just checked my iphone and its clearly more yellow, because its gold? That said it is evenly yellow across the whole display. It really makes the ipad look cool in comparison

Hi,
As far as I know, "dmql" iPads, screens from Samsung, have less book spine problem, but more yellow tint problem.

About your phone, somebody say the bit yellower screen is better adjusted to 65K color, it's okay I guess. Plus, I have been using a yellow screen 4S since 2 years, never bothered me like this time.

just returned mine.. they didn't have any 128gb LTE in stock so I got a refund.. figure I'd wait..

Had a look at the two Air in the store, both were "DMKL" same as mine but they looked great.

I'm going to hold on to my iPad4 for now..

Yellow Screen

Ordered mine from the online store. Live in Thailand. Have the same problem with a pronounced yellow tint on the left hand side of the screen.

I returned an iPad air to the Apple Store in London a few weeks ago because of yellowing and lower contrast on the left side from top to bottom. It was a DMPL (?), but as others have pointed out that doesn't seem to say anything about the display manufacturer. That said, i saw a perfect iPad air display today at Curry's - completely uniform, crisp white and no tint whatsoever. Would have been 100% happy with that display. Can;t comment on backlight bleed because of the shop lighting. The serial number started with DMRL XXXX.

I'm just really happy to see that good display actually exist and am hoping that the one I have coming directly from China will be one of them.

So I got a new Air from another store with another serial no starting with DMPLM and would u believe it - the screen is perfection! Can't believe how lucky I am to succeed on the second try!

Screens tint is uniform, on the cool side, no yellowing, no book spine effect. I do prefer a warm tone but who cares, as long as the screen is this good.

I really hope u guys get a proper screen and everything sorted ASAP.

ipad air tint

Wow the iPad 2 on the right looks, frankly, disgusting. That air looks perfectly white to me. Very soothing on the eyes. Just remember one thing: when comparing to a very cool screen like the iPad 2, even a perfectly white screen will look "yellow" next to it. Indeed the best calibrated monitors look "yellow" to people seeing a truly calibrated monitor the first time. It's a rookie mistake that's made 10000 times everyday on this board.

I compared pictures on both iPad2 and Air side by side. The ipad2 picture showed accurate skin tones, while the Air was more to the greenish/yellowish side. But I can live with it! The screen itself is perfect as far as even lighting throughout. The Air is a "DMQLL" serial number.

I doubt he changed anything mine were the same had several replacements all were just as bad or worse than that.

Everyone here is so caught up in "yellowing" afairs, that they don't even check for that other iPad Air screen issue - bleeding.
Here is my third replacement and this time round it's going back for a refund... :(

I haven't seen any Air's that don't look like that unfortunately.

Why can't everyone just enjoy their devices...:(

If I buy a Rolls Royce only to find it is missing a door, has dodgy gears and brakes, should I just be happy with my Rolls Royce? I mean it's a Rolls Royce I should just be grateful for owning one right? Please these are expensive devices that are claimed to be the top of the line premium tablets but people should put up with substandard screens? Thats a horrible attitude to have.

No, of course not. With a MSRP of $250,000, I would be very demanding too.

So you are comparing a lower color gamut to missing a door, dodgy gears breaks (safety issue)?

Ummmmm, no.

There is a difference between a manufacturing defect and a design decision.

The proper analogy is that you are unhappy with getting 10MPG when they advertised 13mpg.

Oh, wait, Apple didn't advertise the Minis having any sort of gamut...

Ok, the better analogy was you expecting the Rolls Royce to give you 30MPG when they didn't advertise any, and you being disappointed because you spent so much money on a cars that only gives you 13MPG, when other cars that cost less give you 30.

Somehow your unmet expectation is Rolls' fault.

Got it.
Are you in the right thread? This isn't about minis or gamut.

Hi guys

My ipad screen is perfect apart from a minor light bleed which can only really be seen when brightness is turned up full in a pitch dark room. Just wondering how common light bleed is in these ipad airs ? Does anyone not see light bleed under these conditions ? My last day for return is tomorrow.

Do you guys think this warrants a replacement? The yellow tint on the left is annoying only when I'm thinking about it being annoying :p but I have the feeling that if I get another one it'll have some other issue.

What matters is if YOU think it warrants a replacement. It if bugs you, exchange it. We each have different tolerances for this kind of thing.

It definitely bothers me, but I'm not going to exchange a million times though. if the odds are that I'll get one that's the same or worse I just won't bother.

That's a tough one. There really is no way to tell. You could get a worse one. And I am sure there is a limit as to how many times they'll let you return these. I've read people returning 7-8 times, but I think that's the exception. I wouldn't blame an Apple Store Manager from giving you a refund after the 3rd or 4th time and say "sorry we couldn't get you one you liked". I also read they won't let you try them before you buy them. I remember reading someone convincing the Apple store employees to open several boxes until they found one he liked. Again, it won't hurt to go ask. They might look at you funny, or they may take you seriously and try to help you out. Give it a shot. Better to be turned down than to wonder. Good luck!

It's a frustrating experience buying an Apple product anymore.

Seriously! It should be fun. It's not. Since 2008...

2008 -2011 - iMac 08 needed new screen due to severe ghosting and new graphics card within 3 years warranty.
2009 - MBP came with about 6 stuck pixels near centre of screen. Screen replaced on the spot with perfect screen.
2009 - iphone 3G screen sloped to one side. Replaced.
2010 - ipad 1 - perfect
2011 - ipad 2 tint to one side. Replaced.
2011 - ip4s replaced due to button malfunction.
2012 - ipad 3 returned due to the most horrible yellow screen I've ever seen. money back, piissed off.
2013 - Imac 27, great out of box.
2013 - ip5s, great out of box.
2013 - rMBP replaced due to dirty yellow tint to left side of screen and blotches.
2013 - Air replaced twice due to dirty yellow left side tint. Waiting for 3rd unit (comes tomorrow)

I'm glad I won't be in the market for a mac computer for another 4 years and iPad and phone for at least two. I don't think my nerves can take anymore!

mines pretty much like that lol and yes it bothers me. Problem is I got mine at target (currently sold out of my config) and I'm...pessimistic about my local apple store's CS.

That's pretty bad. I have the problem but that is a lot worse. I personally would take that back to the store.
