iPad Air screen defect?

Because it gives you PERSPECTIVE

It's undoubtedly very nice of you to propose perspective here. However you need to understand that we only need a decent iPad Air, featuring a screen without flaw, without yellow tint and with even lighting. Easy.
Perhaps you need some help ? Don't hesitate and ask. That's also what forums are for.

You're taking about arrogance and narrow mindness that's utterly funny :)
Just relax. The brand is not going to collapse because of that thread. We're doing just fine, just relating amongst ourselves our desperate attempts to get from Apple the quality products that we all thought we were buying.

So I just picked up my fourth Air and the screen is great. Finally I can enjoy it.

I tried a white image and its shows no yellowing or bookspine. Tried a black image and see no light bleed.

I don't know about you but my previous three Air's have all come with iOS 7.0.3.
This one came with 7.0.4 out of the box. Maybe it's part of a newer batch, who knows.

For anyone interested the serial no begins with DMPLNK, but like someone previously stated, this seems to have no importance whatsoever..

Great news :)

Where did you pick up your iPad?

That's an interesting point because mine came with iOS 7.0.3 out of the box... So this look to be a new batch (mine start with DMPLDB as SN).

Who did pick up an iOS 7.0.4? How how was the screen... Not sure if a lot of happy iPad Air users are reading this topic... :/

I'm in Gothenburg, Sweden. Picked it up at a local store.

Guy behind the counter was very helpfull, unboxed the Air and started it up to make sure I didn't end up with another bad screen. hopefully it was part of a new batch with better screens.. iOS 7.0.4 has not been out for very long..

Mines DMPLP9 which is a week 46 and it had 7.0.3

Please can you try to take a picture? (with a white screen)

Yes this is strange because according to your Serial number your iPad Air has been assembled later.

It's night time over here, tried to snap a decent pic but without flash it looks horrible. I'll try to take one at work tomorrow in daylight.

That's good news indeed.
On a side note, I don't think at all more recent batches guarantees more chance to get a good screen.
I've seen my eyes some perfect iPad Air units from my friends and they bought their pads in the very first days of November.
I suspect something gets wrong randomly during the production process and result in flawed displays, while at the same time good screens are mounted at the same moment and same production line.

Anyway that positive information resurrect a little bit my tiny hope that the replacement I'm waiting for will be a keeper. I'll keep you posted anyway.

I really would love to compare a perfect iPad air screen with mine or any one with the issues.
Currently I can compare my iPad Air with an iPad mini (1st gen) and an iPad 4:

1st - All look different on a color point of view but this is usual.
2nd - iPad mini and iPad 4 screens are even without any difference on the opposite edges and I can't see the same for the iPad Air.

Are they exhanging with a new pad in retail packaging? Or service models? Or, are you having to return and purchase again?

I'm done with the lottery for now. I was learning to deal with my dead pixel/perfectly uniform screen until I noticed some pretty bad image retention the other night. Returned the ipad and will probably wait for the Air 2.

When you did that was your iPad plug to the power? Or using its battery only? Thanks

There are clearly issues with screen quality. I'm on my 4th Air, and still have an issue.

However, I've baked my screen for 14+ hours (100 brightness, pure white screen, no auto lock etc) and my current Air is now much better than it was. No, I haven't got used to the screen, it's improved.

I also don't think some of the "tests" being performed are valid, i seriously think iOS 7 is playing tricks on us. For example, settings screen in portrait mode. Whites in the list on the left look different to whites in the section on the right. However if I flip my iPad 180, it looks the same with whites less white in the list on the left. I'd have expected the murky whites to swap over.

Put white icons in the corners of the display (one on far left and far right of dock, one in each corner of the top row of icons on the home screen). Now rotate your iPad thru 90 degrees and look at the icons. I can't see a difference in the whites. If I rotate my iPad 3 more times, I still can't see a difference in the white on the icons.

If I open up the keyboard, I can see the left looks different to the right. If I then go back to home screen and do the rotation test again, everything looks uniform.

I've now baked my screen overnight again, and my display is pretty much non-yellow now. Fingers crossed it stays that way

I did mine for around 6 hours but it didnt make a difference, in total how long did you do it for? Are all your keyboard keys also looking the same?

Thanks

It's rather amazing that we are forced to come up with various tricks to "heal" the screens of brand new iPads, and returning up to a dussin before we get a good screen.

Are other tablets just as bad? is this an industry standard?

When waiting to make the last exchange yesterday I had a look in the store, three iPad Airs on display all with book spine issue. 6 other competitors nearby with excellent looking screens.

No the keys don't look all the same. I think there has to be a distinction between yellowing and potential slight unevenness of backlighting.

My screen was a distinct yellow down one side, and now isn't.

In total, probably about 25 hours baking.

Thanks for the info. It seems that a lot of the yellow screens might actually fix themselves over use? I'm going to try it over night and see because mine definitely has a yellow tinge in the lower left hand corner.

Please keep us posted if it does last or goes back to the original yellow state.

I can't say if a lot of screens get better after use, I can only say mine has.

I received a week 47 iPad air 32gb/data directly from the factory in China. I also bought one in London a month ago which I returned because of the left side yellow screen issue. The new one had the same issue, maybe to a lesser degree though. I tried leaving it on overnight with a white photo to see if it made a difference but it didn't. I used it for a few days to see if I could get used to it, but then decided that even if I could get used to it, I don't really want to. Not for the price I paid. This is not a cheap item and I expect better.

I love it and want it, but not if the screen isn't evenly illuminated and evenly coloured corner to corner. I'm fine with a slightly warmer calibration too, but what I'm not fine with is the variation across the screen.

Anyway, just to add my experience to everyone else's. Might try again in a few weeks, but might just stay with my old iPad mini for now.

good luck to those who are still waiting for theirs to arrive. I did see one on display that seemed to have a perfect edge-to-edge white, even screen, but who knows if it was just the lighting in the store. The odds don't seem good.
