I received a week 47 iPad air 32gb/data directly from the factory in China. I also bought one in London a month ago which I returned because of the left side yellow screen issue. The new one had the same issue, maybe to a lesser degree though. I tried leaving it on overnight with a white photo to see if it made a difference but it didn't. I used it for a few days to see if I could get used to it, but then decided that even if I could get used to it, I don't really want to. Not for the price I paid. This is not a cheap item and I expect better.

I love it and want it, but not if the screen isn't evenly illuminated and evenly coloured corner to corner. I'm fine with a slightly warmer calibration too, but what I'm not fine with is the variation across the screen.

Anyway, just to add my experience to everyone else's. Might try again in a few weeks, but might just stay with my old iPad mini for now.

good luck to those who are still waiting for theirs to arrive. I did see one on display that seemed to have a perfect edge-to-edge white, even screen, but who knows if it was just the lighting in the store. The odds don't seem good.

It's vey hard to judge screen quality in the Apple store itself and on the display units, which are always cranked up to 100% brightness.

Geez .... Is it where we finally ended gents? Baking, cooking our $800 pad ! Simply unbelievable.
My replacement shipped today so I should hold it tomorrow. Reading your posts I somehow foresee myself driving more than 120 km to the nearest AppleStore to get my money back.

If you want to bake it, bake it. I got fed up with exchanging and gave it a try and it worked for me. I then shared this info on the forum. If you get fed up with exchanging, try it.

Right then iPad Air number 3 has turned up.

Basics but it seems to be established it doesn't bare much relevance (if at all)

Serial Prefix = DMQLP
Build Week = Week 46 (previous one was Week 45)
Factory - DM Foxconn

In terms of uniform tint this one is the best yet, still a bit of "whiteness" evident on the far right but less so, oddly enough the very right edge seems to fade back into the "normal" tint.

I can perceive a bit of faint shadow but really you need to be staring at it and on a pure plain white background.

Given that my previous one is still here I've charged up the brand new one and I'm gonna run a screen bed in with a plain white image off google and see how it pans out.

Full marks to Tesco so far though in sending me out a replacement one and they said the unit can be picked up by Yodel or drop it back off to your local Tesco which has a Direct desk.

Quick update:

Recap: Went through 4 iPad airs with various defects and eventually gave up. Purchased a rmini and had dust under the screen. Replaced it and got one with a yellow gradient screen.

Last night I went back to the apple store to try my hand at the iPad Air lottery again. The lady was super nice and said she would let me keep going until I got one I loved.

1st: faint shadow horizontal line across screen.
2nd: dust under screen
3rd: major book spine issues
4th: Looked great. Kept.

When I got home I noticed a very faint shadowy horizontal line going across the screen, bit it's barley noticeable unless you really try to look for it. Perfect color uniformity, minimal book spine, no dead pixels. Still defective, but I'm going to try sticking with this one.

I'm now on my 10th iPad. I really wish this had more media attention. There's no way this is a minor problem of all 10 iPads had some sort of defect.

Do not know if this is of any importance but I wanted to share.

I got the 128gb LTE Silver model.

On my previous three Air's with book pine effect They all had iOS 7.0.3 as i wrote in my previous post.
On the back of all three boxes it Stated: "iPad WI-FI Cellular 128GB Silver"

My fourth Air with the good screen came with iOS 7.0.4 and on the back of the box it says: "iPad WI-FI CELL 128GB Silver"

Two Small Things That distinguish my fourth from the previous three.

Just thought I'd mention it.
Please don't flame me if you think it has no meaning ;)

Since I said I would report back.... Lo, I'm really tired of this. I received my third replacement few hours ago. Definitely a better screen. Yet not flawless.
Here is the strange thing: the yellow hue is no longer located on the left side, it's now on the bottom of the screen, which makes it much less annoying when reading in portrait mode. It's also toned down compared to what I had first.
But the yellowing is still there without a doubt.

And now I'm really stuck in wonder, accept it as is or go for a refund.

If you use it as you normally would, would you forget that its even there or is it obvious?

I just ordered another Air for my girlfriend, It's most likely going to have some issue with the screen, but she will never notice, she doesn't look for it like I do.

Bizarre indeed, as the retina mini suffers from yellowing at the bottom of the screen

Silent design change to attempt a fix?

I've got a replacement coming for my current (3rd iPad) next week, so I see no harm in giving it the burn in treatment with a white screen.

Result: it has done nothing for the screen I have. It's still as bad as the time I first saw it.

This is just my experience. I will continue to do it over the coming days and see what happens and post again.

I too have defects on both air and mini

I got ipad air and ipad mini retina display a week ago. Air has dark book spine issue to the left side, and mini has yellow tint on the bottom, both when in portrate mode. I have already requested an exchange for mini, but can't decide if I want an exchange for air because everything else is perfect.

Apple extended the return and refund date to January 7th so I still have some time to debate.

So here is a pic of my fourth iPad Air. It's hard to capture a perfect picture, this one still doesn't truly reflect how the screens look in person. It all depens how you point the camera and the ambient light in the room.

I really can't find anything wrong with this screen. I placed my iPhone 5 next to the Air for perspective. same brightness 65% and same white image.

That has to be one of the best iv seen so far, enjoy your pad ;-)

Adam.

The iPhone 5 and iPad air screens looks very similar: The white looks white without yellow tint or Spin book effect.

Did you tried the same pic with 100% of brightness?

Yes, no difference, just the camera couldn't cope with all the brightness.
I had to exchange three Air's to get to a good one..

Yesterday I went to the Apple Store and brought my iPad Air with me.

Actually the only issue I can see on my screen is a right side little bit brighter than the left side. I don't see yellow tint or spin book effect but I turn paranoiac since I started reading this topic :) and when I check the production week which is 36.

So when I have compared side by side my screen with the Apple Store displayed iPad air I could see that my screen looks brighter and bluish (i.e. colors are colder and white is going to the blue). Actually a lot of them are going to the yellow (let's say warmer screens) and some of them have the spin book effect on the left. When testing I was with 100% of brightness like the displayed ones.

By the way I've checked 2 iPad mini retina, and both had a worst screen than the displayed iPad air, such very yellow on the bottom.

Since this testing I fell better with my current iPad. On a brightness point of view the screen is not 100% even but the colors are good and I don't think I will change it because the risk of getting a bad screen looks higher than to get a perfect one.

You're girlfriend = 99.9% of all purchasers.
