You can just walk in and exchange it.
In my experience if you walk into the apple store and say I want to make a return or exchange usually one of the sales people can do that right there on the spot - it might take a few minutes while you wait for a salesperson. I try to avoid interaction with the Geniuses at all cost and the above usually makes that possible...
Thanks, I'll cancel my genius appointment.

This picture doesn't do what they both look like in person justice, but I got a replacement air today and immediately noticed a very bright lower left corner on white pages. Not as bad as the first one I picked up, but for $500 I may just stick with my old iPad 3 if Apple can't get this straightened out. Sure enough: (air left, ipad 3 right)

That looks terrible, very unacceptable for a $500+ device.

I've just returned my air today. I believe the light bleeding got progressively worst with time and so did the shadow on the left side. The yellowing wasn't so bad but the shadow started getting this green tint to it. Basically, the color on the left side of my device was all messed up.

I haven't purchased again yet. I have noticed that on my local apple store, all the floor models are perfect. Proper, proper perfect!
No yellow tint, no shadow. Just beautiful even screens.
Now, what's curious about this is that a few weeks ago when they first arrived, the floor models were definitely tinted because I checked them out after my first exchanges.
I don't think that these screens settled because, as I see it, the yellow tinting is a problem with the way the glass is curated because as I turned the device and tried to look at it from different angles, I would get a whiter left side. Also, the shadow is definitely a problem with the way the light diffusing layers are applies, that is, in a rush and not properly aligned.
I think that by now, apple is definitely aware of the problem but further action will possibly depend on media exposure.

What to do, what to do...

Got mine today. Noticed the black line on the left but its really hard to see so I dont mind it.
But the screen does look a little bit to yellow for my taste. Not all screens are the same but isnt this a bit too much?
Next to the ipad mini 1st gen and the iphone 5:

Looks good. Keep it.

for those who have had enough is there no petition or anything that can be done to pressure Apple, if google can get such good displays out in a cheap table why not apple, its not as if retina is the sharpest anymore, other sharper screens are better. They have been making yellow screens for a while, iMac, Macbook, iPad etc.

Went to Apple today to exchange my launch day pad, and lucky me they had no 16 GB Space Gray AT&T in stock. Hoping I get a later build replacement straight from China with a good screen.

I wonder if that's due to the display models being on 100% brightness for a few weeks for 12 hours a day?

Well, after waiting for 2 weeks, I thought I'll give it another go and picked one up from Apple store.
Guess what? It's absolutely perfect, no light bleeding whatsoever, no shadows, no yellowing, no dead pixels and pristine bright white display.
Bottom line is, there are perfect iPads Air out there, so don't loose your faith guys... :)

I've noticed that almost none of the display units at Apple stores have yellow tints on the left side.
Some have a bit of book spine and some have slightly uneven backlighting. But by and large the display units are fine. This is in contrast to the display units the first few days after launch.

I'm replacing my 128 cellular Air I purchased from the Apple Store, and swapped 4 times, with a 64 wifi only version I bought from John Lewis on Black Friday (I bought an rMini for out and about)

Will grab it today and check it out.

Please can you provide a picture and 5th first letters of the serial? This might help. Thank you

Just if anyone's interested, my replacement ipad starts with DMPLG and shows evidence of uneven backlight too.

I have emailed Apple requesting a pre-checked iPad sent to my home address directly, then I will return the defective one.

Why should I waste my time and theirs by entering into the drive to the store/argue with genius/get another defective replacement/repeat loop

OK I collected my new Air and the screen is spot on. The greys are more grey and the whites are more white. No yellowing at all. Slight book spine but only barely noticable if I hold at an extreme angle.

DMPLP week 46. I'm happy.

What week was your iPad built?

Excellent. Mine is the a DMPLP week 46 too. Fingers crossed I receive a screen similar to yours!

I would be interested to hear what reply you get.

I just want to say that my week 47 iPad air had slight yellowing and lower brightness on the left side. I returned it.

Very regrettably I don't think they've fixed the issue yet. Let's just hope Apple is looking into it and actually want to fix it.

Personally I don't think that Apple can fix it.
LCD panels are mass produced by LG and Samsung and it is impossible for them to supply Apple with all screens that are 100% accurate - it's just too expensive.
Most screens are fine, but unfortunately some are not and that's why we have this forum thread.
Bare in mind that your average joe buying iPad will never go into the dark room with iPad brightness turned to 100% to check for screen bleed (he doesn't even know what that means).
All these faults we are listing here are normal
and are present on Samsung Tabs, Nexuse, etc;

While I agree that there isn't a need to check the screen in the dark for screen bleed, I do however take issue where reading in a normally lit room the discolouration from left to right of the screen is noticable and in fact distracting. I haven't been able to read 2 pages without turning the thing off as it was so distracting.

Yep, precisely. I never really thought screen bleed was that big of an issue because it just wasn't during normal usage. But this issue with the discoloration is a VERY noticeable defect and isn't anything we should have to live with.

Well, you are correct of course, but I bet if there was no discolouration, you'll be looking at screen bleed instead ;)
Human nature I guess, we always try to find something wrong instead of enjoying the good ;)

I agree you right in the sense where no evidence has been found where specific serial numbers are related to a better screen quality. But maybe... I'm saying 'maybe' a new batch might offer a better quality and then the serial can indicates the production week where this new batch has been produced: do I'm fully wrong?

No, it won't.
