HI, guys/gals!
After 2 weeks I got one replacement... Mailing from far far away.
DMPL with yellow tint and spine, worse than the first one. So the authorized store sent it again.

I do think my next replacement will be a refurbished one, since I was "lost" in the screen problem and forgot to request a brand new one. I do think the refurbished ones might have flaw with the screen "re-glue", it could be untight-glued.

Could it be more hard to get a normal screen as iPad 4?

I'm sorry to hear about that. Do you have any store close to you with a decent returns policy? That seems to be the best strategy while trying to purchase an Air these days... That way you can always bring it in and get a replacement. About the refurbished one... You may actually be lucky! I think that by now all the launch returns with faulty screens must have had screen replacements, so maybe you'll get a good one.
I really don't know what exactly to do next... Wether to try again or hold off the air and plunge into an Xperia Tablet Z. I saw one yesterday and it's quite a great device but I have a lot of money invested in iPad apps some of which I can't run on my iPhone.
I find it unbelievable how one of Apple's biggest screw-ups of the last few years is going completely unnoticed by the media. The reviewers must be getting hand-picked devices!

We seem to be getting both positive and negative feedback, although new posts seem to have slowed down a bit. I feel tempted to act like a vulture and hover over people with iPad Air at the Personal Setup are of my local Apple Store just to check their screens, lolol! :)

Haha hey it doesn't hurt to try. I'm gonna try the replacement one more time ... All I'm worried about is getting a worse screen. :/

I don't think you can really evaluate a screen properly under the Apple lighting.

I don't know why people keep saying this. After my second replacement with the same yellow/pink tint problem, I compared it to the ones on display and NONE had the same problem. They were uniform and the difference was clear when compared to my Air. Honestly, if I would've found one if display with the same problem I would've felt more inclined to keep it.

Apple Store lighting makes their products look superb. Even screens with tint etc look perfect under their lighting. I've taken iPads back which suffered from yellowing, only for it to be barely visible when showing Apple staff. On the flip side I've accepted a replacement unit that looked perfect in the store, and was badly yellow when I got it home.

So you are saying you need better lighting at home? :p

"This year we have something amazing to show you! The team has been hard at work and we've come up with something that's going to change the way your iPad looks at home. Here's the iBulb"

Then how come when I put my yellow/pink tinted iPad Air right next to the ones on display under the same Apple store lighting I can clearly see that mine does not have a uniform screen? This happened with all of the iPad Airs on display - I didn't find ONE with a tint like mine.

After Returning the iPad Mini Retina for a COLOR GAMUT issue not a screen defect, I have decided to get a iPad Air.

I am going to the Apple Store, do they let you look at the screens in the store?

What serial numbers seem to be good?

How common are the screen defects?

1. Not sure what you mean? After you buy it?

2. I personally don't think serial numbers matter.

3. Fairly common from my experiences.

When people here say there's a yellow tint, what are they basing that off of? Uneven whiteness is something, but "yellower" is just a different white balance. Some monitors have an adjustable white balance ... iPad's don't. However it is entirely possible and even likely for whites on one display to look different from the whites on another.

The vast majority of complaints in this thread, and another very long thread on Apple's support forum, are regarding a yellow cast on the left side of the screen in portrait orientation, which fades to various other tints on the right side, with most being blueish. There is also a large contingency of complaints about a darkened leftmost edge to the screen.

Just got an air 32G wifi...DLXLM serial.

Maybe its this thread but I can swear I am seeing some inconsistencies in the screen. I thought I would post some screenshots taken at full brightness and maybe you guys can advise if this is something.

Screenshots will not show screen issues as they are a dump of the video RAM. Photos may help

Just got off the phone with apple...they asked me to do a restore as new...and the problem still persisted.

So back it goes.

I would say that's not normal, or at least it shouldn't be. How does the screen look for normal usage (i.e. not looking at an all black screen in the dark)?

looks fine under normal conditions. I sent it back to apple through courier as nearest store is too far away. They sent it back saying it was normal.

Of course it's normal. Any LCD on a long-exposure photo with black background will look similar to this. But take a photo while video is playing and the background will appear almost pitch black.

normal or not normal ? full brightness in a dark room
Mine is a bit like that on left corner but you rarely see it in normal usage.

If you don't have yellow tint on left then maybe best to keep that as the replacement could appear worse in normal usage.

Has anyone got replacements via apple care over the telephone? If so do they put a charge against your account/ credit card until your original one has been sent back?

I went to Milton Keynes Apple store last week, warranty replacement had same yellow tint on the left. Going to try Milton Keynes again next week but don't know if it's worth doing via AppleCare instead?
