LOL....so Im returning my ipad air for a full refund and have decided to try and buy again when they sort out this problem....otherwise I'll just skip this model.

Amazingly, the apple guy (i think from oz or uk) said, "honestly, this is the first time Im hearing of a problem like this..."

Really??!

Its funny-sad that they are trained to say stuff like this.

I do believe that apple will probably not say or do anything to affect their year-end sales....but a statement from them is long overdue.

Putting aside the personal discomfort of using a screen that is unevenly tinted --there is no way I would consider a screen that is less than pristine as I have to consider how this could adversely affect the product's value if i try to sell it a couple of years down the line.

Just to add another data point ...

Got my new Air a few days ago and was worried based on seeing this thread. Ordered from MacMall. My screen ended up being flawless, no bleeding or dark spots whatsoever. Manufactured week 38. (And I'm a stickler for perfect screens. Replaced my first iPhone 5 due to some bleed.)

sounds very good! What are the first 5 letters of your serial number? Thx

8 returns over 3 weeks and finally have a unit without bleeding or yellow tinting. I tried to give up and move to a different device (Xperia Z, Asus, etc.) but I just couldn't find anything as fast, light and well-supported (app wise).

Now I can just enjoy this thing and pray nothing goes wrong with it. :)

Please upload some pictures! In the dark room, and compared to some calibrated device!

Thanks

I know people are keen to see what an "acceptable/excellent" screen looks like. However if you're happy with your screen don't go posting photos of it on here with full brightness in a dark room as someone will likely burst your bubble and point out some flaw you hadn't noticed during normal use.

If you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

For those asking for these tests/pictures, it's quite simple... A decent screen is one where the owner of the device is happy with it. That's all.

Hahahaahhaha why are you so negative man? I'm asking cause I wanna see a good screen. That's all there is! Please post a picture of a good screen!

Thanks

Hi I just recived my new 32gb Ipad air and I noticed that the screen is washed somehow out, I mean the colours. I compared it to my laptop. And here is result both devices max brightness:

And here is picture of white screen max brightness.

I don´t see any yellow places or something like that, maybe shadows (grey lines on the siden with white picture), but the screen has some strange color saturation or something like that.

What do you think I have 14 days..

Honestly, to me (I'm not some pro graphic designer) it looks really fine. I would say, your lap top is pinkish. I would keep it!

It looks fine to me...very even compared to others! Your laptop seems to be on the blueish side and with proper calibration should match your iPad closely.

But then again, you can check for backlight bleeding on an all black screen in a pitch black room. Sorry. ;)

Blueish? Really, I am blind then... It looks pinkish to me!

That's a great looking iPad screen. Unless something goes wrong in the next 14 days, do not return that iPad.

For some balance, ordered a Kindle HDX. First one great screen with horrible blue margins. Second one, definitely the most vile screen ever. Like camouflage. So it's not just an Apple issue. I have to say in all the times I've been buying gadgets, Samsung take the prize for the best screens.

I saw the same issue i.e. blue margins on a displayed model and this was really hugely agree...

so still now way to know which ones are NOT affected? with a serial or something... still a lottery?

Serial numbers have never really been that helpful with iPad quality. Sometimes the newer the production date, the better, but even that's a crap shoot.

I have a theory that it's more about how the LCDs are squeezed into the devices than the actual quality of the LCD. If they're pinched more on one side, you'll see unevenness, etc. Sure, there are some bad LCDs floating around, but I think more of the problem lies with how they're assembled.
