1. Not sure what you mean? After you buy it?

I wouldn't be against standing in the Apple store, making the iPad Air purchase, turing it on, looking at the screen, then if I see the defect, return it right then and there, I might be in there all day to find a decent one...

AppleCare through telephone works fine but it takes more time and you won't have your iPad during the exchange process. Also make sure on the phone that they replace it and don't send you your original product. Happened to me once and it drove me mad.
I got a replacement which isn't perfect yet but acceptable. Waiting a month or do to try again.
Up today, people are still getting worse units with replacement. The yellow Tint issue had not been sorted yet, do if you replace your pad you might be lucky but you can also get a worst one.

Thanks for info, did they put a charge on your account/ credit card? Also do they pick your one up first then despatch another directly from china?

Got mine today. Noticed the black line on the left but its really hard to see so I dont mind it.
But the screen does look a little bit to yellow for my taste. Not all screens are the same but isnt this a bit too much?
Next to the ipad mini 1st gen and the iphone 5:

We'll I got a replacement IPad Air.... And it's exactly the same as the previous one :( In the store it looks good but when you get home....
I'll give Apple a call tomorrow if they can pick it up cause I ain't going all the way back to the store.
Maybe I'll just keep it and replace it in 2 months when the screens improve.

Nope they didn't charge me anything. They do so when they send the new product in exchange of the original one. Only for iPhones I was told.

I would also advise to wait for a few monthes. That's basically what the senior advisor told me on the phone. Wait for the issue to be sorted.
Here and on the thread over at Apples forum, it's loaded with people reporting they got bad replacements.

Can you explain how it can look good in the store and bad at home?

I guess the lighting in the Apple stores make the screens of the devices look whiter and better.
Actually not that weird cause apple thinks everything over carefully and plans everything in details.

LOL

It looks like you just like to complain and find faults in everything.

If anything, the bright lighting in the store makes screens look duller, clearly show smudges on screens, and reflections are a bitch to look through.

See a doctor about your OCD.

Actually you're wrong. See a doctor about you being a sheep and following the "You must have OCD" crowd and not being able to think for yourself.

I've had 3 Airs from my Apple Store. All looked great under their lighting and all looked half yellow when I got home. With each return it was hard to point out the issue to the staff as the screens looked great under the store lighting. Eventually I got a replacement from John Lewis and the screens perfect.

I also have a retina mini that again looked great instore, but yellow when I got it home.

The OCD thing has got very boring, and childish, which I guess is acceptable if it's coming from a child. Are you a child?

Actually there is a very good picture which shows the defect of the brightness and color issues where there is a scale from white to black from the left and same from the right so you can compare each side. Even in an Apple store with this powerful light you can see the defects. Also the keyboard is a good test as well, especially if you focus on the opposites keys, so if you have the issues you see perfectly the different colors / brightness in an Apple store.

Can some of you guys who were lucky enough to get great screen, take a picture of their iPad screen, and upload it here. Of course compared with something like calibrated screen or just black screen in the dark!

I'm really curious to see a good one comapred or even by itself!

Thanks

Here is a picture of mine in a dark room on minimum brightness with a white picture:

The Backlight bleeding picture is in a pitch black room with brightness at 100% so you don't normally see it in normal usage but compared to the last 2 yellow tinted left side ones they had less bleeding.

What do people think?

Oh I agree but I took them as it's a MacRumors tradition for assessing "Screen tint" right? ;)

My replacement Air and replacement rMini have no yellowing or issues I can see during normal use, compared to my previous ones. Therefore I'm not going to look for any in any "unrealistic" tests :)

----------

What's bizarre tho is that with my original Air and original rMini, I could see a colour saturation/gamut differences quite clearly. They were both set up with same icon layout, wallpaper etc.

However with my replacement Air and replacement rMini, the screens are exactly the same. There's zero difference. So either my new Air has a gamut issue, or my new rMini doesn't.

So, what are you complaining about?

Take a picture of your iPad side-by-side with all of your other screens - laptop, desktop, TV, what-have-you - and you'll see that all screens are not perfectly pitch black.

Stop OCD'ing about nothing.

Actually i have never in my life returned anything to the shop unless it was damaged physically or wouldnt startup at all. Backlight bleeding? Dont mind. 1 or 2 dead pixels? I'll live with it.
This was the fist time i brought an Apple product back. Why? Because the reason I buy Apple is for the great screens with good color displays.
First thing i noticed when starting up the ipad air was the yellow color. So i put it next to my other devices and you can see the result in the photos i posted in this topic. If you cant see the yellow color in those pictures then you're blind as ****. Go see a ophthalmologist. And yeah I should know, I actually am a doctor.

My first two Airs had a white line running across the screen, 1/3 of the way down on the first one and 2/3 of the way down on the second.

My third iPad Air had very bad yellow tinting on the left hand side. Local authorised service provider agreed this was faulty and ordered an exchange.

Just received my fourth. Entire right half of the screen is pink from top to bottom.

Honestly have no idea whether Apple just expects me to shrug and accept that my purchase price – not cheap for a tablet – buys me a screen that looks like this.

Stop OCD'ing about nothing.

I don't think it was a complaint. Seemed more asking for an opinion, and I kinda guess that's what a forum is about. Considering you just got owned by telling a doctor to go see a doctor, I'd be inclined to keep quiet for a while if I was you.

The vast majority of complaints in this thread, and another very long thread on Apple's support forum, are regarding a yellow cast on the left side of the screen in portrait orientation, which fades to various other tints on the right side, with most being blueish. There is also a large contingency of complaints about a darkened leftmost edge to the screen.

Does anyone on here have one that doesn't suffer from these issues at all?

Does anyone have an Air with a completely *perfectly even* white screen? Where all borders are equally white.

Does anyone have one without the faint grayness on the far left of the screen?

Asking seriously as it seems rather difficult to find them.

So, what are you complaining about?

First of all WHO says I am complaining?

I'm posting my findings.

Secondly I am not OCD'ing about nothing, somebody asked for images and I am posted them whilst casually asking for an opinion

Clearly you don't understand proper English very well at all.

This is a forum, if you have nothing useful to say then stay out of out of this thread and may I suggest taking some vocabulary lessons, BOY.

Finally

8 returns over 3 weeks and finally have a unit without bleeding or yellow tinting. I tried to give up and move to a different device (Xperia Z, Asus, etc.) but I just couldn't find anything as fast, light and well-supported (app wise).

Now I can just enjoy this thing and pray nothing goes wrong with it. :)

I think I may exchange mine again. The yellow tint on the left side has actually faded in the week I've owned to almost a balance of the other side (though still a tad warm), but the bottom left corner region that was too bright has gotten worse.

maybe out of topic! sorry but where I can buy an ipad air 16gb wifi ONLINE under $500 or $500... I see in all site out of stock :( any help?
