I think this is decent compared to the ones I've previously returned. My camera (or lighting) is adding a lot of red to the images though.

The interlacing is really obvious to me. It's like vertical running bands on the display. There's loads of topics about that on these forums, including a wallpaper which you can use to test it.

But don't go looking for it if you can't see it.

For the manufacture date, this is the link http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

Just pop your serial number in there and it'll tell you the manufacture date.

Interlacing is a bugger. I explain it as a "shimmering" effect. Had it on an iPhone 4 and an original mini. If I looked at the Facebook icon, looked away and then looked back, I saw a flickering before my eyes adjusted. Did my head in, literally!

@klover, sorry but if you ask us, and if your screen really looks like your pic, it's definitely not acceptable . The half yellow half white display will spoil your iPad experience on the long run.

Here is a better example. It's almost unnoticeable in person and far better than any of the other units I've seen or owned. Probably as good as it gets.

My new 64GB (returned my 32GB b/c of black friday discount and got the 64GB) Air ist the best yet. No dead pixels, no dust, very very good calibrated screen and the most unform yet. In fact, it's uniform enough to not distract me in regular usage: it's a keeper. :)

OMG that's terrible. Isn't that making your eyes bleed? You should return it immediately.

JUST KIDDING!

After having tried last week to swap my current iPad Air with 2 other iPad Air and came back systematically to my initial iPad Air because of the poor screen quality of the proposed iPad. I've decided to try again today in another Apple Store:

Obviously the manager came to me once they saw that I've tried 5th times to swap my iPad. I first showed (sales person + manager) where is the issue on my screen and they agreed on the brightness difference between each side. Then the Manager offered me to swap once again and if the screen would not fit my expectation then he would had the only option to refund me in order to stop trying swapping all the time.

To be honest I'm tired swapping as well (i.e. definitively not an exciting activity) and I accepted the deal. Without really surprising me the new iPad screen was more yellow and less bright than my current one and both of them was agreed... So I've decided to not keep it and go to the refund as offered by the manager. He just told me that he understand that I'm not satisfied but he can do much...

Swapping 6th times made me definitively disappointed... I'm still positive and I'm want to believe that Apple will do something, get it better in the further batches.

Also my only fear is that they will for sure offer all those rejected iPad Air through the Genius bar when the Genius are offering to swap a device...

I LOVE APPLE!

Are you really still denying this is a problem?

This is a thread to discuss the defect that plagues almost ALL iPad Airs. If you can't see it, or don't care, then don't come to discuss about it. It definitely exists as you can see from the people talking about it here.

People might actually use their iPads like displaying photos, browsing, etc. Not just buy it to support the company they love so much.

Just ignore him like most users here; his post history is evidence enough that his intent is to annoy, not contribute.

Okay, the iPad is useless to display photos, browsing, etc. Got it.

Delusions of grandeur much?

just got back from the apple store.

the ones on display actually look pretty good. i put mine right next to one demo unit. mine looks creamy, yellow, not uniform and not as bright. the apple staff see the difference right away. they offered an exchange.

i opened it. compared it to the display unit. still not as bright. both were set to max brightness with auto disabled. kind of weird.

but i took the new one home. if i can still see the yellow on the left. i will just return it for refund and call it a day.

this is just crazy. my other apple stuff at least have a decent screen.

I got off of the phone with Apple Customer Relations. They offered NOTHING. I explained that I returned my iPad Air numerous times due to poor quality screens. Each of my iPads had a "DMPL" serial, which was the common denominator. The representative said he could not in any way guarantee me that my screen would be of a quality standard if I re-ordered through him.

This one seems to be better than others.

I'd suggest find a good display unit and compare your replacement with it.

All about the lighting under the LCD

The right side is always going to be brighter then the left. The bottom edge is brighter than the rest.

According to what source? Are you telling me that ipads are edge-lit only on the right side?

----------

Guys who say "just enjoy it, no screen is perfect":

Look, I don't care if I have a "perfect" screen or not. I don't need one that is within very specific and precise parameters regarding quantified output metrics.

What I do need, however, is a screen that is not TWO DIFFERENT COLORS. Preferably on the whiter end, but I would even accept a slightly "warmer" tone as long as it is even.

When one side of my keyboard is even the slightest bit yellow, that is a problem if the other side is white.

If you have a dark shadow on the left edge of your screen, that is a DEFECT.

Apple markets the Retina Display as one the best viewing experiences around. There is no point in having a high pixel density and no pixelation if your screen has different tints across it.

People not only use their ipads for fun, but for work too. It is unacceptable to have this problem.

It is a design/manufacturing defect. End of story. My Nexus 7 didn't have this problem, nor does my macbook pro 17. I had ONE ipad 3 with a perfect screen, and since then, I've seen 4-5 bad ones with this tinting problem.

Apple needs to find a better upstream supplier, or fix their own internal problems. I personally believe it to be a glass issue, as my tint seems to come and go depending on the angle I view it at. It is like the effect you get with a polarized lens. Some angles make it darker, and some more clear.

Can you guys with the problem see if you can make the problem better/worse by viewing at different angles? Try very acute, to very obtuse viewing angles and see if it gets whiter/yellower.

If we can narrow down the problem, and make enough noise, maybe Apple can finally nip this in the bud.

i thought it has one light in it, on the right side.

My Airs most definitely change appearance when the tablet is tilted one inch. Both brightness and tint can be altered this way, and I mentioned this over a week ago. ;) You are quite correct in your assessment of this as well.

I'm not sure how you got that. Let me clarify for you:

Not everyone buys an iPad just because their favorite company is Apple and they want one on display. They might actually use it unlike you who encases it in bullet proof glass on your nightstand.

During actual use, this problem is quite evident and quite bad.
