I got a 128 gig and have the same yellow screen which really sucks the apple home page looked rubbish on it compared to my iPad 4

Returned it and sticking to my 4.

I had the same issue on the iPad 3 and never got a screen that was good until I replaced about 15 iPads and I am not going to go there again with the air.

I will try 2 more else I will get the next one that comes out.

It is really sad that no one from apple looks into QC

I assure you, someone does. We may not like what they see and ok, but someone does look.

I suspect that if Apple rejected every screen that was not uniformly coloured, the cost of producing the ipad would be prohibitively expensive. They assume most people will accept a non-perfect screen, as I have and it is cheaper for them to do so.

How much would you pay for safety? Meaning, how much money would you pay to get 100% white equally balanced screen?

After four duds I finally got a good one. Colour is pretty much uniform. Funnily enough there was some light scratching on the case and some glue residue around the screen so I wonder if they're now shipping refurbs to their authorised service centers (who handled this replacement for me). Either way it's what I was expecting from the first one I bought and I'm hanging onto it for sure.

Bought a 64gb wifi white on launch day (Nov 1st). Screen was perfect (although I didn't look for any issues)...

Returned it today (holiday return policy) for a 32gb (to save money) and immediately noticed a very distinct yellow left side. Frustrating! I thought everyone was a bit nuts but I can assure everyone this problem is very real!

I don't however notice any spine effect. Just yellow.

I have until Wednesday to exchange it (after 45 days at Best Buy). My screen has gotten SO much better - it's bright. However, the two-tone definitely drives me crazy, especially if you flip over the iPad and try to read something... it looks like yellow leaked all over the iPad haha. Think I'm gonna try exchanging it at least once to see if I get a new and improved batch. :X

oh really bad idea to return perfect screen, go back and ask for your first ipad back :)

Got my 4th iPad Air today and it's very good, with a uniform tone and brightness across the entire screen. It's a DMQL for those keeping count. Happy at last.

My first replacement has uniform white, in fact it's a soft nice white level (no color gradient). However the back-light is uneven, dimmer on the left side (more obvious when reading text on plain white background). I'm debating whether to keep this since I don't want to go through the display lottery.

My advice is to keep it. I returned 3 Airs for yellow screen issues and my 4th that I'm very happy with sounds like yours. It has a bright white screen that is even with no yellow or gradients but if I look for it on a white background, the left side is not quite as bright. I wouldn't call it the book spine effect. In everyday use I don't notice it and I'm so happy to have this near perfect device after going through 3 returns. My guess is that they all have this to some degree and it is just overlooked by most who report perfect screens here. I'm not sure because I think your eyes do get used to things, but my device seems to have improved with use and the dimness on the left that I noticed at first is hardly noticeable now. Give it a little time and if you're still not happy you can return or exchange it.

From 42 week? Sure it is a "brand new"?

I imagine the week is related to the particular store and the turnover there. And at any rate if it has a good screen, who cares what week it was produced. My iPad Air with a great screen was produced week 37.

Me, cause we had a discussion on an other forum, if apple sends iPads again, when people sent them back. If you buy a new one at this moment, it is from 47 or 48 week

Did they recall all the new iPads produced prior to wk 47 from the stores??

It's good to know there is someone else with similar display. I think I may do as you suggested and keep it. There is always Genius white box replacements :)

Today, it's pretty obvious that there wont be any 'fix' from Apple to the Air. Millions of pads sold, with or without yellow hue and uneven lighting, only a few thousands of people perhaps just like us complaining and asking for either refund or exchanges, which we get thanks to super :apple: customer service.

So, till it's produced andassembled, iPad air will be shipping all aournd the world, and since most people arent much bothered with their flawed displays, the only official fix to the iPad Air will be the next iPad 2 , end of next year.

Dont hold your breath guys, just keep on playing the exchange lotery until you get a satisfactory unit, or call it a day :)
There will never be any kind of 'official statement' or replacement programm.

Went to Currys shop today in Tottenham road just to have a look and 1 iPad Air and 1 iPad Mini retina are displayed:

. The iPad air was showing a massive book spin on the left with a uneven screen. Actually the worst screen I've saw ever.

. The iPad mini was a bit better but with a screen much more warmer well yellow than the cooler screen of the iPad mini (1st generation) just next to the iPad mini retina.

I got my iPad Air on Wednesday refund and really this device is missing me... Do you think I can try again buying a new one and see what will happen... Or waiting some months before expecting to get something better....?

Typing now on my *perfect* iPad 4, I'd say: wait not until a few month but until next year for iPad Air Two. No comparison between all the Airs I've hold in my hands and my good ol'4... Sadly.
You were lucky to get your money back, I can't because I bought from a lousy retailer and I'm now relying on AppleCares exchange units. I've wasted 800 euros with thus joke. Ain't that cool as a Christmas present ?

You mean iPad 5 aka Air?
Yep, I've got perfect one as well... :)
Judging by the numbers of posts here, minus the same users - 90%, iPad air is good to go :)
The remaining 10% or so, pls keep looking for faults - you will find them for sure ;)
I for one, am using my iPad, are you?

What you failed to understand is everyone is finding the same exact fault. It's not like you have users returning them because they thought the colors were washed out or the screen wasn't bright enough.

You may have bought one of the better ones or just don't see the flaw, but I don't believe 90% have perfect screens.

il agree I saw too much iPad air with defects, sometimes very small but existing defects that I can't believe that 90% of the screens are perfect. For sure there is 90% or more who don't pay attention to that.

i'm sick of returning my first to pc world all the cashback enquiry hassle in relation to an exchange, now i want to return second, but i don't know if they will accept, as after the first, the manager said couldn't do anything, thinking of waiting and just buying direct from Apple.

1 question, PC World (in the UK) only give 21 days to return unopened items, does Apple's return period allow you to open and test at home before asking for a refund/exchange?

I suggest to everyone analysing their iPads, to either return it for refund, or get Samsung Tab 3 with screen bleeding and "wonderful" Android instead ;)
