I suggest to everyone analysing their iPads, to either return it for refund, or get Samsung Tab 3 with screen bleeding and "wonderful" Android instead ;)

I'd rather believe I can get the same quality I had with previous iPads and don't have to suddenly except noticeable flaws.

Just went in store to compare my ipad to the display units. I never even knew mine was operating at about 60% brightness compared to the display models.

Both are at 100% brightness with auto-brightness off.

How is that possible?

No idea. I didn't even know until I went to the store. I was going to compare for the shadow and the yellow blotch, but ended up finding out I have a much more serious problem.

My uneducated guess is that some LEDs are out. But I have no idea how the backlighting works.

Does anyone know how the LEDs are arranged?

There is still slight tint on the right side. But I don't think you can find one that is much different.

If you see a problem in that picture…stop buying iPads. You're raising the price for the rest of us.

----------

Acceptable, sure, for me too. But it is not perfect - in my opinion

See note above

----------

Are you really still denying this is a problem?

This is a thread to discuss the defect that plagues almost ALL iPad Airs. If you can't see it, or don't care, then don't come to discuss about it. It definitely exists as you can see from the people talking about it here.

People might actually use their iPads like displaying photos, browsing, etc. Not just buy it to support the company they love so much.

There is no denial that some problem exists but what the problem actually is…well thats debatable. I have seen many screen shots that look fine even though the owners are complaining they do not.

Whose to say if warm hue is right, or cool hue. Perhaps that's just a preference.

I have a release day unit. I've had release day units for all my devices. I have NEVER received a unit that I thought was unacceptable.

I think we would all agree that Apple could save a huge amount of money and returns if they would just add a calibration feature to IOS.

HUGE!

Huge difference of brightness! But I'm not really surprise since I did this test before with proposed swap and with displayed iPad Air in Store.

I'm not sur if this only the fact that the manufacturer of the screens are different. There is maybe additional parameters such the batch, maybe specific factory settings, etc which can influence the final result of the screen appearance. All the last screen I was able to compare was yellowish, less bright than my previous iPad (which has been refund). My iPad was from one of the first week of production.

I noticed the same thing. Both the one that I returned and the replacement are dimmer compared to one display unit. But that display unit is brighter than others. So I wasn't too concerned. The color temperature was different on them as well. Just inconsistent.

My first iPad was much dimmer than second which almost perfect barring the yellowness on one side which I couldn't accept

Edit:
sick of it just returned to PC World, lucky had relative working there, otherwise i hear very bad stories about their CS.

I may buy from Apple, can anyone tell me does apple store let you open box up and test it for a period/days and if not happy let you refund, no questions asked, as don't fancy explaining every time yellow tint?

really adore the new ipad but the yellowness just got me irked.

My question is: Can Apple solve the problems with the screens? Maybe after the christmas-holidays all ipad air's are ok? What do you think?

You have 14 days to return a device to an Apple Store. Yes, you can open the box and use it during that time.

I picked up a white 32gig wi-fi air last night. Screen looks damn near perfect other than the the slight "book spine" effect on a few pixels on the left side. No uneven tints or darkening. Im happy with a 95% perfect screen.

My serial started with DMRL which seem to have been a better batch.

I sold my ipad 3 and got an air over the weekend. 16gb wifi and mine starts with DMRL...my screen looks pretty good. maybe slight pinkish towards the right but i really didnt notice anything out of the box until i started looking for it, and even then i had to convince myself i saw something. i will take a picture and see if that reveals anything.

That would require Apple admit that there are manufacturing defects with the iPad Airs, which they have not. Most likely the display manufacturing will stay the same. I was at the Apple store last weekend and noticed that all the iPad Airs on display suffer from some defects, either uneven backlight, book spine of the left or green/pink tint. Although you have too look hard to find it. I believe the lights at the store are masking these problems.

I hate to say this, what are the chances some random person checking in a warehouse will actually have such well-calibrated eyesight that they'll be able to spot slight yellowing/darkness on the left side? Especially if they're only checking for a few seconds?

Once executive relations are involved they usually try to do everything in their power to help. The problem is that if all the iPads have a display problem, there's only so much they can do. A few years ago, I was having a display problem with macbook pros (yellowish and uneven illumination). The manager of the Apple Store bent over backwards to help and we did multiple swaps and a display repair/swap - but there just weren't any good displays. Then he took the next step and upgraded me to the top of line 17" model from the 15" cheapest one. That solved the problem and showed just how committed to customer service Apple can be. But had there not been a different model with a different size screen (i.e. different manufacturer and quality), there would have been nothing he could help me with.

Anyway, don't mean to squash your hopes...just saying that the problem might be beyond executive relations.

I wish you good luck though and hope you get one that is satisfactory.

Just wanted to post an update to my saga...
Recap of the story so far: ordered first iPad air at release, had yellow tint on left. Replaced at Genius Bar, seemed ok in store, got home, yellow tint. Emailed executive relations and they collected iPad.

Then, a brand new iPad air was sent from China. Received today and the screen is perfect. No yellow tint, no blue tint, nice and bright, evenly lit. No dead pixels.

I'm very happy with the iPad I have now. Just a pity it took 3 tries and over a month.

As others have said, there are perfect screens out there. Just keep trying and do not give up!

For those that are interested, my 3rd serial is DMPLT8

That's good to hear. I'm on iPad Air number 5 and still no joy. How did you email Apple Executive relations and where did you get their contact details from?

Thanks

I just emailed tcook @ apple.com and someone replied that was local to me. I assume they simply looked up my email address on their systems and matched it to my order/Apple ID and saw the address there.

Glad I did. Very happy now.

Will post pics this weekend when I get a chance.

Bought online at Apple on release day. It was replaced in person at an apple retail store. That replacement had the same issue so I emailed exec relations. They replaced it with a brand new one shipped from China direct.

That would be nice, thx

I went into the Apple Store today, thinking about getting an Air or a Mini. Every Air there had the book spine effect, and a few were very evidently half pink. I only looked at one Retina Mini, and the bottom half of the screen was yellow.

I'm skipping this generation of devices.
