It is very fortunate for Apple's sake that people like Max and some others don't work for them . It's this kind of people who ruins the business and make big companies bite the dust.
Explaining to customers with a big smile and arrogance that they're dumb.
As I always said, it's because of Apple's great customer service that despite the problem we currently have with the iPad Air, we will remain faithful to the brand. It's because we love Apples products that we don't give up on the Air. Because Apple somehow recognize we have an issue, they exchange our flawed units. Apple don't tell us we have perfectly functional units, they trust their customer and blindly replace suspicious items. This is what customer service is about . Constant attention to their customers is what brought Apple where it is. To the top.
Undoubtedly with attitude like ' no Sir we're sorry but your product is perfectly functional ' Apple would have died long time ago.

You are right. I'm not an Apple employee so I can say what I think about this returned devices.
In many cases Apple didn't recognize anything : they just swapped your product to make you happy. They are trained to do exactly that.
I'm very happy about Apple customer service, but since I'm not related to Apple I can say that 6-7 returns are just crazy and move on :D

Very well said. I absolutely could not agree more.

Couldnt agree more. It is because apple has an excellent costumer care and the quality of their products that im sticking with them even after 3 flawed displays. They still told me they would exchange again in January. Not many companies would do that.

No one is bad mouthing apple here, only exposing a real problem that is affecting probably most of ipad airs displays. The problem needs exposure and recognition.

I just exchanged a unit with green and pink tint issues for one with uniform color but that left edge shadow. Trying to figure out if I should try a new batch or just return it and keep my 3.

I've seen a lot of them due to exchanges and some had the left edge shadow more prominently than others, but they did all have it to some degree. At least all of the ones I've seen did.

Does anyone on here have a left edge that is as white/bright as the right edge in portrait mode?

You just said if they look for a problem they'll find a problem then turn around and say they're seeing something that's not there. Which is it?

NO even if you test something rigorously you should not find any problems and if you do then by god you should return it. A device that costs this much should be PERFECT.

Exactly my point - if you look to find a problem you will find one. One that's not even there.

I don't know. When I opened my first ipad air, I saw 3 dead pixels right away. I returned it and found that my new ipad air had yellow left to right color distribution, right away. I had no idea this thread existed at the time.

Every apple product I've owned with the exception of the iPhone 4S has had a perfectly backlit and white screen. I don't blatantly look for issues, they just pop out at me.

With that said I love my iPad air, despite the uneven screen.

And what exactly would be the motivation behind trying to find a problem or making believe there is one? The endless joy of returning iPads?

Mine seems to be slightly warmer on the left side (portrait mode). I cannot say how much, surely it's not anything affecting my user experience, also when reading ebooks (with a white background).
Maybe it's the way is assembled ...

I think the question here is different ...
You find a defective product, returned it and you shared your experience on the forum.
That's fine.
But there are a few threads on the forum, like this, where some users perfectly happy about their device saw people keep saying "they are ALL defective" and so they are looking for problems they didn't have.
Don't you think that what for you is an unacceptable uneven screen, for example, for someone else could be nothing to worry about ?
I don't speak about clearly noticeable defects (I saw a couple of photos showing very bad screens here), but subtle ones.
If I measure my iPad color temperature I'm quite sure the left side is a little bit warmer than the right. It's barely noticeable but it is.
Well, for me this is not an issue, but maybe for you this is worthing a return.

Its amazing. Some people are having problems with their ipads. And here is a guy who has a problem with them having a problem.

Thanks for the reply, Max. As you said, it may have something to do with the way the Air is put together. To me the light appears brighter on the right side of all the ones I have seen.

Could be, since mine has absolutely no backlight bleeding.

It's apparently back lit from only one side. Arguably one could say it's side lit, but I didn't invent the term :)

Christmas Day iPad

I was given an iPad Air for Christmas, after going home and unwrapping it immediately look for any type of screen defect. I've spent a good amount of time reading the forums on what to look for and I must say my iPad has a perfect screen! No type of color distortion or uneven coloring!

Here's the sad part, since I've had my iPad Air I've kept it in the plastic sleeve it has come in until my case arrives from Amazon. After carefully examining my iPad (slow day at work) I notice near the top left hand corner on the metallic bezel is a blemish, that sticks out like an eyesore. :(

The tricky part is exchanging it for a brand new one, where the finish will be most likely pristine however comes the risk of receiving one with a screen defect.

I adore my iPad Air, works well together with my iPhone 5 and MacBook Pro. Just sucks to have gotten the short straw.

Bummer, I know how you feel. Just one thought--do you use a case? I always have used a case for both protection and increased grip. The case would hide the defect. (But you would always know it's there . . .)

All of my Apple products have a case, I thought about that as well, when my case comes in I know I can put on the case and I'll probably forget about it, until the need comes to change the case years from now. I still have time to exchange it, I'll see how much it truly bothers me.

The same thing happened to my MacBook Pro, (got it last year for Christmas) I had it naked, cleaning it with warm water whenever needed. Though since I've gotten a new job that involves traveling a lot, I tend to bring my laptop with me wherever I go. With TSA I had to remove it from my bag, my belt buckle got stuck under one of the rolling pins from the X-Ray scan. Tugged onto my belt a little to hard and the buckle pin landed directly on the lid cover scratching it.

Once I landed and had to wait for my connecting flight, ordered a case for my laptop immediately. Even though that scratch isn't visible on my MacBook I still know it's there :(

Could you post a picture ?
Is it something so noticeable ? A blemish is not a dent ....

Oh my....
I wished I had a few dents on the Air's back and a nicely lit and even display. Don't swap your pad if you like its screen. iPad IS a screen.
