So far, my screen has been just fine. If someone has issues with it those folks can get replacements without any hesitation.

Are colors and web links on *all* Airs more purplish?

Now, this is THE MOST ridiculous OCD I've ever seen.

Your life is ruined now: the links are PURPLISH!!! :D

My life's not, but my cousin's web browsing may be! We're asking a serious question about display colors on the Air. If the web links on *your* favorite sites showed purple on a new device, you'd be wondering what was going on, too! And, while your life wouldn't be ruined, your web browsing would certainly be adversely affected.

So, how about shedding some light on the question?! Or, are ad hominem attacks your only way of contributing around here?!:) It would seem so. Here’s another of your “helpful” comments in response to someone else on another issue:

Another one bites the [OCD] dust. Your life is ruined now because you can now see imperfections everywhere! :D
In contrast, mpayne offered some constructive insights (thanks!).

The question my cousin and I have-- and the one that plays a role in whether he returns his Air and may affect whether I buy one is:

Is this purplish color inherent in *all* iPad Airs or in just this one batch of Airs we’ve seen?

-------------------------

By the way, you have little ground to stand on making cracks about "OCD" when you were in a tizzy over your lightning cable and characterizing it as the *new* Antennagate! :)
Lightning cable = new Antennagate?!
We've also enjoyed your other "factual" statements such as:
The 5th Ave store is 99% filled with tourists checking their facebooks. …

I tried to take pictures but no success getting a good one, backlight is at 50%

The right border is yellowish .. hard to see, very minor, still there. I've been holding myself against returning it for another one, because I believe I'll get something far worse.

Either you're holding it upside down or yours is the first case of one that is yellow on the right. All the others have been yellow on the left.

It's on the right side, my left is ok.

Yeah. Problem is: each replacement iPad we get is worse than the previous one. I even read on Apple forum that the latest batches are even worse than units produced in October 2013. And when you can't ask for refund, what's left ?

Hello,

I bought my device in Germany. From first uses I noticed the screen problem reading ebooks and thought it must be normal relating the issue to the pdf file quality as it was a scanned book. But the problem became more prominent as I got used to my iPad Air( my first tablet ever:eek:) reading web pages.
As I googled the issue, turned out it is a common problem and many are complaining, so I checked the screen using pure colors and since then the lighter area on the left with dark borders pops into my eyes :(

I arranged a Genius Bar on January 7th and as I explained the problem and turned on the screen, the Genius acknowledged the problem right away and said I can have a replacement right away , well I thought this is perfect and I am going to have my beloved tablet with a perfect screen:rolleyes:

He brought the replacement in a carton box [just a question: Is it normal for the replacement? I thought I would get a brand new unit with the original box]. He unboxed it turned it on and Uh-uh  He said the screen is the same in the new unit. As there was only one 32GB version available in the store he could not bring me another unit but gave a number to call the apple care.

Just called the apple care and after long on the phone: I will be going to another apple store to see if the have BETTER one to replace mine. If not, I should arrange a pickup and it must be looked into to see if there is any problem

I didn't think it is so hard to get a normal ipad Air!

P.S: Checked about 5 demo units at the store (3 silver and 2 space gray), 4 had the same screen problem. The one with proper screen was space gray.

That's just classic. Classic OCD. :D

You obviously don't know what OCD is then...

It never bothered me before, and you can't really see it unless your in a dark room.

The iPad screen was darker on one side and had a yellow tint as well, so it wasn't just the light bleeding that was bothering me. Got a replacement device today that only has a little bit of light bleed.

----------

Well I'm not OCD at all, and I'm quite notorious for my criticize at thread like this a, but I have to admit that your screen bleeding is very noticeable and worth of a return. The only question is: did you notice it during normal usage ???
I can see some bleeding on my Air, just above 75-80% brightness on a perfectly dark room, mainly in the down left corner, which is the warmer side (maybe they are somewhat related). But in my case it's perfectly acceptable and I'm not going to change it.

I answered the question, no I did not notice it during normal usage. You can only see the bleeding when in a very dark room.

I just got a replacement Air today and there is only a little bit of light bleed. Screen seems more evenly lit and maybe its just me, but I think there is a little yellow tint that should certainly fade when the glue sets in through normal use.

So does it mean it was a repaired or returned one? should we not get a brand new unit?

If you return your iPad during the first 14 days you could buy another one, a boxed brand new iPad.
After that "remorse" period, you are going to have a refurbished unit.
It is a returned unit, repaired, usually with a brand new battery.

It's called a "white box replacement". It's parts are completely new except some interior parts. Every part that the user comes in physical contact with on the exterior – glass, outer case, etc. – are brand new.

Here is a picture of my second ipad air which is a replacement for my first. (Brand new exchange)

Noticable disgusting yellow tinge on the right portion of the split keyboard.

I have to decide whether or not I wish to return for a refund or get a 3rd exchange. I do have a case ill have to return and a Smart Cover from best buy as well if I do that and I have no idea what other tablet alternative id go for, especially considering that I have the 128gb ipad and no other tablet really has that kind of storage.

I'm tired of this. Id get an exchange if I could have a perfect uniform screen but I can't see that happening.

Very dissappointed with this. 929 dollars gets you a terrible non uniform screen. Disgusting.

Both iPads are the same serial line. DMPL I believe. I had asked to be guaranteed a new ipad air from a newer production line and was denied that. Now they'll have to deal with me again, very sickened by this experience and if this doesn't get resolved in a positive manor I may just permanently discontinue my support of apple.

Vgalmedude, check out the thread at Apple's forum , some guys claim they finally got after several exchanges good units with fair screen, serial DMPLX which are the latest batch. Worth a last try before refund perhaps.
Myself I am going to try one more time.

Damn, that looks terrible! One of the worst i've seen in a while =(

I don't think the apple store I go to will have my particular model in the new serials, I got my replacement last Sunday and it had the same serial as the I got before Christmas.

Does apple do these exchanges over the Internet or phone? Like will they ship me a new one in box and then I just ship mine to them?

Nope. I used the AppleCare procedure. But it work the other way round: they ship you a replacement only once they got yours, which mean you stay iPadless for a couple days till ups knocks your door.
I think it's better to deal with an applestore if you can. I don't have this choice, I live far far awAy from any apple store .

I wouldn't mind if its only for a day or two. I live about an hour and a half away from an apple store and I'm restricted to using my parents cars (cant afford my own car, dont want to get in debt) and don't drive much so I can't just go whenever I please.

Last time I hitched a ride because they were already going to Louisville. Not sure that'll happen again.

Refurbished?

I received my new iPad Air yesterday. The plastic wrap looked intact to me. However, I was puzzled by the fact that the iPad Air had a Serial Number starting with "DMPL8", which indicated that the unit production week in 34th (August 2013). But to my surprise, the unit has IOS 7.0.4 installed on it already! IOS 7.0.4 was released in November 2013, and could not have been available at the time where this iPad Air was made.

I'm exiting iPad land for this year. Tried both the rMini and the Air for an embarrassing number of units and all have uneven screen tints. Most are horrible, the Air the worst.

I have a £200 Note 8 which has a great screen and is fast and stable. This will do until the new Nexus 10 emerges or the Tab Pro is available.

Seriously hacked off.

No you're not seriously hacked off. You are just yet another Samsung Troll.
PS; I work for one of the major electronics stores in Australia that sells both Samsung Tabs and iPads. Guess what we have to deal with all the time?
Samsung Tab screen issues... Screen bleeding is the major concern, but yellowing is there as well.
Maybe Apple should just stick to LG...
Btw; We never had a return for iPad yet... ;)

If you bothered to look at my posts you'd see that I'm most certainly not a Samsung troll. In fact my household is entirely Apple apart from a Note 8 and and LG G2 - and that covers about 10 devices that are Apple.

And yes there is some slight bleed on the Note 8 but for me, the quality of the screen overall is far superior to any of the latest iPads I have tried. I'm kicking myself now for selling a perfect iPad 4.

And you've NEVER had an iPad returned - have you only worked there for a week or do you get a special supply of iPads that are much better quality than Apple Retail Stores get? I think not.

Managed to get a GREAT screen. Not yellowish, very little backlight bleed, and the color tint doesn't change from one side to the other...

And there's a piece of dust underneath the display. Probably gonna keep it because as distracting as it is, things could be much worse.

Anyone else got one that looks like there's dark smudges underneath the display?

I had to return one due to stuck pixels, but the replacement and this second replacement both have the issue. At least this one is fainter so it doesn't show up as much unless it's a solid light background, but it's still somewhat annoying.

The colors are perfect, though, unlike the first replacement.
