Not sure where you are, but speaking for the US-

1. the government has said that by next month, the vaccine must be available to everyone over 18. So they’re not being very selective, are they?

2. There were already countries that require proof of vaccination against specific diseases before you’re allowed to enter. Long before covid19.
How you can possibly compare that to this is astounding.

Proof of WHAT vaccines? Yeah, you'll find that they are vaccines against actual deadly diseases, that have decades of refinement and validation.

No country wants proof of a flu shot. Schools don't even require the worthless flu shot.

There is huge huge huge difference between staple vaccines that are proven to be a safe solution against dangerous illnesses, and a brand new rushed to market gene therapy solution for a coronavirus.

The entire thing reeks of something else, and has from the beginning. The entire reaction and handling of it is disproportionate to the severity and this is just the next obvious step. Obvious. Obvious to anyone that has been watching this unfold without the blinders of fear for the last year.

Typical. Always resort to name calling. So sad you are.

I always wear my mask in public. How does this have anything to do with showing papers for entry? I highly doubt Walmart is stop and shop is going to require a paper check. If they do I’ll shop elsewhere.

Funny how everyone here is all for privacy. Them they are enthusiastically calling for a total lack of privacy.
As a business owner, I don't want people who are against vaccination or masks as customers or employees. If you don't like masks or don't want to be vaccinated, work from home. (Work from home for someone else. I will never trust you.)

Anti vaxxers are the modern equivalent of plague rats. We don't want you.

Sure, individual liberties make america a good place, but it also generates some incredibly self centered individualism at the expense of fellow humans around them. Feel free to tell me to shove it but it ain’t happening; American principles are great in some ways but self centered in many, so feel free to opine how you want because I’ll continue to do so as well :) and just a correction to your point. America raises *some people* out of squalor. But the odds are tremendously stacked against people from the get go versus those born into socioeconomic and racial privilege and until Americans acknowledge its dark history, wealth inequity and resource imbalance will forever be an issue reflecting some broken aspect of this country, the so called experiment you describe.
This is one gigantic whine that screams "I'm subservient and want to be told what to do."

Vaccine passports have been around for a long time. Anyone who has traveled internationally has to have updated vaccines required by the country they are traveling to. Various nations require vaccines. I travel - or rather traveled pre-pandemic - extensively and vaccines for tetanus, MMR, Hep-A, Hep-B, Typhoid, etc are required. This is just adding SARS-CoV-2 to the list.

The CDC and WHO have long had information for travelers on what vaccines are necessary before you are allowed to enter a country. I was working in Bali and South Korea in late 2019 and had to update my Hep-A vaccine.

This isn't a requirement - if you don't want the vaccine then you can't travel to certain nations that will require it. Stay home. No conspiracy. Just basic science and precautions.

I’m just gonna quote this since folks seem to be getting into a tizzy over something that’s already been around for various other viruses and such. As this guy says, it’s simply adding covid shot to the list and whichever country wants to require it and/or businesses. Simple. No freedoms lost. No stars to wear (that poster seriously needs help cause wowzers). If you want to go to certain countries pre-pandemic, you’d have been required to get certain vaccines. Now, if the UK or Norway wants to require a covid vaccine, then so be it. I also question whether folks becoming psychotically paranoid over something as little as this has ever been outside their country even. I’d wager they have not. Stop listening to the GQP stuff and realize there’s a much bigger world out there. Oy vey

Whose anti Vaxxer? Not me. I’m fully vaccinated. I wear my mask everyday. I dont agree with having to show papers to shop etc.

At least read what your responding to. Why would you not trust someone who works from home? Sounds like you judge people a lot and have issues with people

The RNA does not go into the nucleus of the cell. It does not have a mechanism for reverse transcription. It never makes it past the ribosomes. All the tiny little RNA strand is capable of doing is generating a bit of protein from the tips of the viral spike, then it is quickly used up. It can't make more RNA. It can't do anything in any other part of the cell. It's not doing anything that every other virus you have ever been exposed to has done, even the ones you never know you had. In comparison to a real virus, this is nothing. In comparison to a dead virus, this is nothing. It is just a tiny fragment of a tiny fragment of a virus.

This is a very bad idea for many reasons.

1. The vaccine is not available in the free market. It is only available through the government to populations that the government has designated as favored recipients.
If governments restrict travel to those who have the vaccine while simultaneously controlling who gets the vaccine, they have built an effective tool for awarding travel to only the people groups that they favor.

THIS!
This cannot be repeated often enough...

Once the vaccine is available to EVERYONE (i.e. including the free market) everyone who wants to can be vaccinated, eliminating the need for the passport.
As long as the vaccine is government distributed, that passport is an indirect way of arbitrarily assigning rights to people that they should have in first place. This is against the fundamental principles of equality in a democracy and as such should be rejected.

You called individual liberty nonsense. I stated that liberty has done more to raise humans *across the globe* out of squalor and servitude. You turned it into an attack on America's past as if that means we should just consider liberty nonsensical. I did not state that America was perfect. However, America's true principles when adhered to, do more for mankind than any other style of governance. This has been a historical fact for ALL people, worldwide. Liberty should be for everyone, so it is not nonsense to defend it when it is undermined by proposals like this (on topic). Tyranny is tyranny whether it be from elected officials, unelected bureaucrats, or self appointed rulers or mobs.

The bright side is all it takes is a few exposures to some diseases and they'll and or their children will leave the gene pool...

Some people, do to health conditions, have legitimate medical reasons to not be vaccinated and allowing others to potentially expose them is, IMH, stupid; thus limiting their access to some places is not unreasonable, and in the case of a private company, entirely within their rights to decide whether to let them in. I knew someone who ran a daycare center and if your child wasn't vaccinated they were not allowed in. Sometimes you have to fire a customer.

Not to mention totally unnecessary.

Right now, we are fighting a war, not against the virus, but against mutations in the virus. Why do normal rational people finish a bottle of antibiotics, even if they are feeling great after half the bottle? Because, when you kill off most of the population, those that remain are the ones that are resistant to the antibiotic. When the next person gets that bug, the antibiotics will be far less effective. If that person takes half the bottle and stops, the next person they give it to will get less benefit from the drug.

Vaccines and masks are like that. If 60% of the population is protected and 40% is not, those who are not will become breeding grounds, keeping the virus alive. Over time, variants that are resistant to the vaccine will emerge and have a competitive advantage over ones that are not. Those who do not get the shot will eventually make the shot worthless.

It is not hyperbole to say, anti vaxxers and anti maskers are every bit as evil as rapists and murderers. It is my greatest wish that they burn forever in the same place.

Stupid. Whether or not I’ve had the vaccine is nobody’s business but mine.
Uhh, and all the other people that you might spread your disease to...
You don't think it's also their business?

I'm generally willing to give other people the benefit of the doubt. But a comment like yours is so noxiously misleading that you lose that benefit. You're welcome to state your preferences, or to state that you'd make tradeoff vs tradeoff y. But when you start insisting that NO-ONE's life or opinions matter except your own, well that's an intolerable attitude on the left, and it's equally intolerable on the right.

You keep posting this. No one is denying this. We are talking about having to show proof of vaccination.

you seem to be such a nice guy and all. Wishing harm on people. Smfh.

It’s not their business. Plain and simple. Do you go around letting strangers know that you got treated for a infected toe.

Calling it gene therapy is more than a stretch. The RNA does not go into the nucleus of the cell. It does not have a mechanism for reverse transcription. It never makes it past the ribosomes. l guess you would be ok infecting yourself with a little tiny bit of a tiny bit of a hiv or hep c virus? That’s what your arguing.

Really? I think the chance of anyone dying from covid19 is lowered if you had the vaccine which makes it everybody’s business.
Yes, many other respiratory viruses in recent years and none were justification for locking down the world. And there will undoubtedly be more viruses. Are we going to shutdown the world for every threat going forward? Life is a balance of risk and opportunity.

You only see what you are told, which is quite scary considering how much reality differs from what you are told.
Oh please. I have a degree in cellular and molecular biology. I actually understand the science. When faced with something like this I always look deeper into what the science is actually saying (because admittedly the media often oversimplifies or spins it weird). No one tells me what to think, but keep telling yourself that everyone who understands the science is a lemming.

You people who think this is some deep plot to control people need some serious psychiatric help. If you look at the way governments have responded it pretty clear that they are in reactionary panic mode most of the time and are just making this up as they go along. There’s no deep sinister plan here. Grow up.

You do realize that’s what this research comes from, right? That was probably the most asinine comment you made so far. We’ve been trying to use mRNA vaccines unsuccessfully with HIV for decades. It would be a miracle if these vaccines could work with HIV the same way.

Also, in no way do mRNA vaccines contain any piece of the virus. They contain plans for a specific unique component that your body can later recognize.

you have to prove vaccination to 1) travel to many international countries, 2) go to school (elementary, middle, high, college, or post graduate including boosters if needed), 3) for select occupations (ie healthcare fields), 4) joining the military. And when I say proof, actual records from a facility.

This individual liberty nonsense is theatrical drama at best and is eye rolling because it either demonstrates lack of basic knowledge of how things have worked with respect to public health or stem from sheer foolishness.

you don’t want to comply? That’s fine, you’re not entitled to air travel, movie theaters, dining establishments, live performance venues. They’re largely private businesses. No shirt no service? Just as legal as requiring proof of serologic protection.
Cool, I’ll just lie then.
