When is the Apple TV app going to be available for android so I can install it on my slightly older Samsung TV?

So no Q65FN on the list? I imagine Costco sells a lot of these. But Samsung seems to ignore these models when releasing firmware updates. :/
Good question. I have this model number I just got last year and I don't see an update for it. I can see the Apple TV app listed there in the App Store when I search for it but I can't click it and do anything with it

My 2018 model is on the list of supported tvs yet there is no update for the tv available yet. Have you downloaded an update successfully?
what's the model of yours?

Anybody know if home sharing works? I have a computer that has all my content downloaded on my local network. Wondering if I can stream from that like I can on my Apple TV.

Thanks!

My 55” 7 series updated ok and App works - AirPlay 2 also ok.

Bizarrely 55” 9 series - updated firmware but can’t AirPlay or get app to load!

Same exact as yours. It says 2018 Q6 is supported right? I got mine from best buy..not costco.

This might be one of those updates they roll out by region. Since its gonna be on so many tv's, they probably want to take it slowly updating all of them and making sure everything works ok. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get the update until late tonight.

Just in case it is: Tacoma Washington checking in!

I had the app on the store and it wasn’t clicking getting the error message. Just reset the tv and now the app isn’t even showing - something must be wrong and they’ve pulled it.

So my Q65FN has the same firmware version number (1251) as the 6, 7, 8, 9 does in the download center. The online download center just doesn’t list a downloadable firmware update for the 65 specifically. I think the TV is updating itself... I’m pretty sure the software version used to be 1209. But who knows. I guess I’ll find out later today or tomorrow.

Update now was greyed out on the Samsung TV’s settings. Able to fix by holding down power button to hard reset, but not seeing any updates. But then 5 minutes later, the TV showed up in the AirPlay menu! We got the TV yesterday and I had to reset the TV entirely earlier today for unrelated reasons, if that helps.

On my first experience: looks like screen mirroring works, I have had some issues with AirPlay 1 apps. AirPlay uses an Apple TV like light mode UI for selecting subtitles and alternative audio. Mirroring photos from the Photos app does work too. Audio works with a similar interface to Apple TV. There is a scrub bar in Music & Stitcher, but not Overcast.

This is all with the most recent beta of iOS 12.3, need to update to GM soon.

Apple TV app installed just fine in the US. I was kinda hoping for an integration with 3rd party apps, but doubted it. If the content is not available on Apple TV channels or iTunes TV & Movies, it appears it won’t show in the app. No sports tab since sports currently all redirects to 3rd party apps. Looks like you can add more than one Apple ID.

My TV model is UN43RU7100FXZA.

THANK YOU for all the great details --

Do you know, once you login the TV app into your ITunes Account, does it let you set Download Restrictions? I want to buy one of these Samsung's and put it in our Airbnb unit for guests, but don't want them to be able to make purchases from the TV app.

Thanks!

PS - For reference, the regular Apple TV does let you set download restrictions... info here if you're not familiar...

How does this app work if you’re not a cord cutter or didn’t subscribe to a “channel” inside the app? Does it kick you out to that individual app like it does on Apple TV?

I found that if I was in an app (like Netflix) then the update is greyed out. I found that if I "exited" to "over the air" TV (or I expect a source input) I was able to click the update now.

FYI I still don't see the Apple option anywhere - in the app store or appearing by magic.

My tv model number is UE40NU7120K. Does anyone know if this is supported? I have no new update and I can’t see the app as of yet. I’m in the UK if that makes a difference.

Technical question: Does this mean I won't need to buy a separate :apple:TV? Will I be able to just sign in with my account details onto the Samsung? I'm thinking of replacing my tv if this would be the case.

You would lose DolbyVison HDR, and only get HDR10. That would be the big reason for me not to give up the AppleTV, and the Apple Arcade would also be missing.

I have a 75" 2019 Samsung Q90R (stellar TV BTW 110% recommend it) and the Apple TV app loaded fine from the store and is working great. I did not need to update the firmware. I'm assuming I will need to update firmware to add Airplay 2 native support. There is no current update available for the TV. My Q90R is currently on version 1065.

That's a significant downgrade. I would have to look into this further and weigh out the pros and cons, thanks.

My apply TV app is working on my Samsung Q90R. Additionally Airplay 2 is functional as I can now mirror my MacBook Pro. I was able to login to my apple ID and everything is there in terms of movies and content.

The one thing notably absent is APPLE MUSIC?????? That would be a game changer. Does anyone know if this will be released in a future update as a dedicated app?

FYI, yes I can connect via Bluetooth and other channels but I would rather not. It would be nice to have a dedicated app for music.

How is Airplay 2 functional on the TV? I know macOS updated with support on the MacBook Pro, but the TV still needs to have added support.

I have a 2018 Q65FN. Firmware was updated about two weeks ago to 1251. I updated my iMac to 10.14.5 and now "Samsung Q6 Series" shows up under the AirPlay menu. I tested streaming a 1080p video and it was perfect. iPhone is still on 12.2 but tv also shows up under screen mirroring.

I've got a 65" 2019 RU8000 and the AirPlay 2 update + the AppleTV app both were working when I got home. The app, for me, is useless since there is no support for Apple Music and I don't buy any shows/movies from Apple, but I was super excited for native AirPlay. It does works to mirror anything you want, but Beamer doesn't support streaming directly to it so that is a huge letdown for me. If it had worked I could have finally gotten rid of my AppleTV 4K, as its only current use is Beamer, but for now it'll live to see another day (and keep occupying an HDMI port on my TV).

I have a 2017 Samsung TV that I bought a year ago and this being excluded is yet another reason why I’ll never buy another Samsung TV. Too many compromises already.
I have a '17 LG 4K. AFAIK, there is no update for ATV. No big deal as I have a 4K ATV plugged into the set.

If there was an LG, would the picture be the same as plumbed through my ATV, better or worse. I do regularly use the built-in apps for NetFlix and Amazon Prime verses beaming them up through my ATV. Just quicker and easier.

I agree, but I should be clear, you will not get Dolby Vision with any Samsung set, even with Apple TV. That was what caused me to get LG and TCL sets. I hope we soon have HomeKit for the TCL. Great set at a great price point, other than that. :)
